First, I'm not crying, you're crying!  Second, do I have to pinch myself to realize this isn't a dream.  I'm so happy for you good folks at OctopusG for doing this.  I love the La-5FN and the La-7, so this just made one of my biggest wishes for DCS World come true.  I'll buy it day one!  Thank you.  Love and Respect from Canada!  Oh BTW not a big issue but can we get wind effects for sticking our heads outside the I-16 cockpit please.  Cheers.

Yes, will be day one purchase for me too. Worthy adversary to K4 and D9 for sure, and good looking bird too. Fortunately we don't have to deal with it idiosyncrasies like heat and exhaust fumes in cockpit virtually 😄 Hopefully some day there will be late-war map too..

I bought I-16 day first only because i was hoping for another Russian fighter 🙂

@DB 605 we could imagine that some LA-7s were lend leased to UK for Overlord OP 😛

Day one buy for me as well. The La-5FN and La-7 are favorite warbirds and I've been eagerly waiting for the 7 to get added to IL2, OctopusG beat them to the punch. Beyond stoked for this plane.

That LA-7 looks great..

I have never been an La-5/La-7 fan. But I cannot deny the La-7 was one of the best operational fighters of the war and the La-5 wasn't too far behind. It belongs in this sim and will be a monster that can take on the Bf 109K4 on even or even superior terms.

It will also visually be a better stand-in for La-9/La-11 than the Fw 190D9 in Korean War scenarios.

Finally!  Finally a Soviet aircraft that can actually compete with the other WW2 fighters.  My favorite is the Yak-3, even if it had short endurance, but an La-7 is probably the better choice.  I flew both of these in preference over any other fighters in... uh... you know, that other thing.  If the story is true, I can't wait to engage two confused mustangs.  Apparently, Ivan Kozhedub shot down 2 mustangs who mistook him for a German plane.  Don't know if that really ever happened.  Also, I doubt I can fly like Kozhedub, but I'm certainly eager to give it a shot.

I'll pass on this plane but i do want a La-5FN or Mig-3 for my Russian WWII garage.

It's interesting; I quickly compared some specifications on wikipedia between the La-5FN and La-7, and it seems like the La-5FN has slightly better performance in most categories.  Larger range, top speed, time to altitude, rate of climb, horsepower, better power-to-mass ratio.  I imagine these stats don't tell the whole story, so I'm curious why there is such a discrepancy.

I hope eventually that they do make the La-5FN, but I'll take the La-7 for sure!  Those two birds were my fave in that, you know other thing, but the other thing could never compare with the realism and immersion that DCS World gives me.  Come on 2.8 and come on La-7!

Really Really excited to see a WW 2 Soviet fighter model in DCS. It's certainly been a longtime coming. Now If we could get a Japanese fighter into DCS, this game might actually start fulfilling its potential👍.

Agreed, we need Japanese aircraft, because I'm also getting the Corsair day one!

Now al we need is appropriate theater map to fly them😉. Hoping "Kola" extends south into Finland, Sweden, Norway, ELL & possibly Denmark. Map maker really need to layer era's onto map from the start. Really no reason for  Orbx to develop Kola into a wwII era map. Sure not easy, but that why they get paid the big bucks👌.

Even just the Caucasus map in a WWII variant would be good enough IMO - and a relatively easy lift for @Eagle Dynamics.

Well, easier said than done I suppose.

I'm not up on the historical battles that may have been fought in the Caucasus region but just having a map set in the correct time zone is fine enough. I'm not one for "re-enactment" so don't care that much about repeating history in a simulator. I get why some people like to do that though.

Normandy and The Channel are fine but more varied terrains are more entertaining for making hypothetical experiences IMO.

Mildly quizzical why Caucasus WWII doesn't already exist TBH. Let's not go down that rabbit hole here and ruin this thread.

Annnyyyywayyyysssszzz....

LA-7 - day one. I love prop planes, especially tail draggers, so I'll be buying this as soon as it hits EA

Actually, you're on to something.  I would love to fly WWII Russian aircraft against 109s and 190s in a WWII set Caucus map as well.  ED, what saith you?

Operation Fall Blau / Case Blue in 1942…

Lots of action along the Caucasus mountain range and coast. As a student I met an old soldier who fought in the area, and he claimed to have reached as far as anyone in the German advance had reached.
Many decades later my curiosity prompted me to research this, and I believe his unit fought along the Terek River to Mozdok and Malgobek.

Timeline wise this would be summer 1942 through to winter 42/43, so a little before the DCS plane set, including the La7…

Also, I understand that the Luftwaffe was withdrawn from the Caucasus to support 6th Army at Stalingrad, leaving the air open to the Soviets to harass German ground forces
