fixed emoji's are screwed up

Something is going on with the emoji's on my forum. IDK if it's on my end, or yours, but they are pretty much unusable,

even received ones from others. Happening in the past few days.   @BIGNEWY  @Flappie

Yes I see the cowboy, but I also see this symbol along with it. This is exactly what I see.

p.s. Clearing the cache made no difference. I still see the symbol next to the emoji and I can't see flags at all.  (See earlier post)

I can see the problem on mobile Chrome v108. Most of the icons have the "uninvited neighbour" but some don't. Ex.

All my signature icons are borked too.

Seeing the same thing happening for a few days now.

The odd thing is that in Firefox, all emojis show up okay for me, but when I check the Developer Tools -> Network panel, they all get redirected, and the redirect answers with a 404.

In Chromium based browsers (Chrome being the most noteworthy one, obviously) I see the same thing in the Network panel and all emojis show up with a broken image next to the proper emoji.

In either case, it seems to be linked to problems with twemoji.maxcdn.com and its redirect to (in my case) cdn.jsdelivr.net.

Try to flush your DNS cache.

1. Open a CMD window.
2. Run this command:  ipconfig /flushdns

Then restart your browser and see if it helps.

So I do not think has anything to do with DNS but where the png is getting directed too.

When clicking on the emoji option I see a lot of redirects. For example, 'https://twemoji.maxcdn.com/2/72x72/1f60d.png' redrects to 'https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/twemoji@11.3.0/2/72x72/1f60d.png' which returns a 404 error.

But MaxCDN has been retired so maybe an updated is needed. Forum seems to be using Twemoji 11.3 and v14 is out  https://github.com/twitter/twemoji/issues/556null

I see. It means we're all seeing the "alt" emoji. None of us can see the "img" since the link is dead.

The difference is that some of us see an icon meaning the "img" link is dead, and most don't see it (the browser probably chooses not to warn the user since the "alt" emoji is displayed).

Yes.  Looks like Twemoji was updated to v14 so going straight to cdn.jsdelivr.net now and not doing bad redirects via MaxCDN, which was shutdown.
