corn322 Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 (edited) Flying over Damascus in the Blades of Steel - Syria in the Hind I went from ~25 FPS to ~30 FPS on my rig. Probably more to due with the shadow bug being fixed than multi-threading. Either way I'm thrilled that I had no strange bugs or crashes and everything just worked so far. MadMax-87 Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 I did test 3-4 hours the BETA and i still have 72 FPS like before, but i noticed following: i can now set everything to max settings, i did set now clouds to ultra + terrain shadows and i get now still 72 FPS and it runs generally much smoother, i would say perfect. I even can set 2x to 4x MSAA then i got stable 32 FPS and runs actualy very smooth. With previous Beta Version i was not able to use MSAA. I hope later i will be able to use MSAA with at least 60 FPS. Then i tested it in 2D, 200 FPS and even in Mariana Map 160 FPS with everything ultra and 4x MSAA lol... Nice job ED,DCS runs much smoother and better... 1 Intel Core i9-13900K / Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming OC 24GB / Kingston Fury Beast RGB, DDR5, 64GB (4x 16GB) 6000MHz / EVGA SuperNOVA 1600W / Microsoft Windows 11 Home / ASUS TUF Gaming LC 240 ARGB / MSI PRO Z790-P WIFI

With previous Beta (VR) i had on the Carrier frame drops, and there was something like blury lines. Now on the carrier no frame drops at all. I think this MT Beta will improve 2D much more for those with 1080, 2000" and 3000" GPU's. For 4000" not so much, at least 4090 did not improve on FPS, but the stability is much better and definitely they are on the best way, i can't complain. Nightstalker Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 (edited) Well, I have to say bravo! I started off by hopping in the AH64 instant action mission in Syria hot on the ramp. This is usually very punishing as there is a plane on fire right near the ramp. I now was sitting at about 98fps with no affect from the fire...lol. I also ran the DCS World Tomcat Torture Test mission. When you would fly past the explosions the fps would drop down into the 40's and now it dropped to a low of 95. I wouldn't even notice a drop. What a difference! My system is an i913900k, z750e, 32g DDR5, Panasonic 980 Pro SSD and a 4080. I've notice a longer loading time for some missions though. Bring on the F15. GayCavalier Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 Dear Developers at ED, This is an astoundingly great piece of work - well done! To put it into perspective, you've just saved me the cost of a GPU upgrade. I'm currently running a RTX3080 (overclocked), and to get the 50% increase in fps i'm now seeing routinely, i'd have had to upgrade to a RTX4080.. however, I can save that cash until the PiMAX12k finally comes out in 2047... kotor633 Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 Hi ED, Yes, really a very good step forward! With my Ryzen 5 1600 & Nvidia 2070 I have between 15-20 more FPS. Only VSync must not be active, because then I see streaks when I use the F3 or F6 key. Other than that, I haven't noticed anything unusual so far. I am very pleased. I see no reason for me to use the single thread version anymore. ************************************** DCS World needs the Panavia Tornado! Really! **************************************

Dragon1-1 Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 Sooner or later, anyway. There's still plenty of things for them to fix. I can see it hanging on for a few months, at least.
Crouz Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 You seem surprised to have good perf with card above 1000s, is it troll? Can we have feedback with a config that does not come from space ?

There was plenty of feedback already from people that used to play with barely 30 fps and low specs, up to people with 3080s and above. The gains vary wildly depending on the baseline settings and scenery but just estimated it is certainly above 20-30% on average. So just read the corresponding threads and see for yourself. Quick Apache Hot Star Mission in Caucasus: ST - 42 FPS in cockpit / MT - Solid 60 FPS (Vsync on with a 1920x1080 60hz screen) I´ve seen improvements all over situations where my FPS droped below 60 FPS like , Carrier operations with rain or at night with AI on the deck, Flying low over Las Vegas Downtown, Channel map flying over towns and cities. All this situations my rig barely keeped 45 FPS. Now is solid rock 60 FPS. Of course there are other places and moments where i cant keep the 60 FPS like in the Apache quick mission in Nevada when i´m over Nellis parking full of planes parked, but overall is a nice improvement even for a potato rig like mine and 2D. Well done ED. This is the way. Cant imagine when Vulkan -DLSS - newer iterations of MT could work together. PD: Screenshots for doubtful people. Your hard work on the core has paid off The cool thing is there's actually a dollar value to this update. I'm probably playing it a bit loose here, but for example if I get ~30%+ FPS on certain flights - which I have - that's about what I would have seen going from a 2060 Super to a 3060. And the 3060 is $500Cdn. So in loose somewhat playful terms it's like I just got a 3060. So maybe this means if I get a 3060 now, will be like getting a 3070? Will my 30%+ turn into 50% or 60%+? You see where I'm going with this. For people interested in new hardware only for DCS, this MT update, depending on the circumstances of your flight, had a value of perhaps a couple of hundred dollars. Gotta love that. 1 Some of the planes, but all of the maps!

ED Team BIGNEWY Posted March 12, 2023 Author ED Team Posted March 12, 2023 Hi all, thank you for the feedback and kind words we really appreciate it. While we have had an overwhelmingly positive reaction to multi threading and our first preview we still have a lot of work to do. If you are having issues please post in our MT section in the bugs forum area and attach your dcs log and dxdiag, it really does help the team gather info. If you are just using the auto crash submission we appreciate it, it helps build patterns for the team to check. We will continue looking into reported issues, but we are very busy so please continue to be patient. best regards Bignewy 6 Forum rules - DCS Crashing? No question you're right, but my CPU is decent - more so now - and the gain I got was as if I had bought a slightly better GPU, which I was going to do. I know I'm at least a little off base here, but you see what I'm getting at? Great update! Best since the new clouds. Some of the planes, but all of the maps!

Unfortunately for my system with my settings in VR this MT preview is still far from enough, sorry. No real gains, but some more stutter, missing WOW factor. This is pretty normal right now, this is just the beginning of the road, so definitely no moaning from me. I think the game changer will be the render graph with Vulkan + DLSS.
