Had the same issue as Dr.Cure on a MP server. When I angled toward the 60 series ranges on NTTR, while still at Nellis, I'd get the massive FPS drop resulting in a lock-up. Thought it was a script issue, but I removed the Viper cockpit files and it didnt happen again. So something is in conflict. And I did not have the Terrain Core Enhancement enabled, just cockpit.
The server uses several mods, so posting a trk is rather pointless.

Interesting, pretty sure I did not use any mods or so but it happened on Marianas MP server more often than others (and yes, the server uses a bunch of aircraft mods such as A4E etc.) Maybe the server does have some conflict with performance should they used any mods. Should it count as a bug/glitch if that happened (something that needed to be fixed in future updates)?

Bump for this 10.2 GB DCS Optimized Textures Mod!

  • DCS Open Beta Folder is 17GB lighter with Optimized textures installed.
  • @BIGNEWY, it would be a shame if the developers were not at least studying the changes provided in this mod and considering implementing some or all in a future "major" update. (For example - when Vulcan API is ready for Open Beta )

On an interesting side note:

  • Installing this 10.2 GB Textures Mod on my 2TB Samsung NVME 970 EVO helped me to realize that I was missing the installation of Samsung NVME Express Driver 3.3.
  • My computer was crashing and rebooting when pushing the NVME hard during heavy usage.  During troubleshooting the drive would also crash running the Drive Magician Diagnostics tests.  Thanks, @Taz1004

This modification freed up 1.4 gigabytes of video memory. 8.2 is used instead of 9.6.

Why is optimization done by an ordinary user and not by the ED development team...?

Respect to the author of the mod for his work!

Hi all !

Here is an archive with optimized Roughmet and Normal files for those objects that are missing in previous builds of optimized textures:  AV8BNA, F-5E, M-2000C, Su-34, Arleigh Burke, LHA Tarawa.

Update_Core_07052023  (220 Mb)

P.S. Taz, you are great!👍

Sad but true.

I wish some improvements could be made for the SuperCarrier. It's optimizations is so poor.

Wow thanks so much for this mod! I play ECW server and was tearing my hair out today, I run fairly low settings 1440p and use every trick going to try squeeze FPS out of the game. I was getting 80 to 90 fps max on the coast and then was dropping hard under 30 around Damascus, it was soo stuttery as well. I tried this mod and it totally fixed it. I was hitting my FPS cap of 141 in the quiet areas and big furballs in the center around 100fps. More importantly much less stuttering. Its the single best thing mod Ive tried!

For reference I'm in 1440p MT client.  6700k 2080 32gb DDR4 3200mhz

These mods are true gold. I still do not understand why ED did not/ has not done this.

I just tried Persian Gulf (no Taz work) and it is clearly performing worse than Syria with Taz work....

Yes I play on Enigma's Cold War and it works fine. visually I don't really see a difference however I was on potato settings to begin with. I am enjoying the much smoother performance and recommending it to everyone who will listen. I suspect its the reduction in VRAM usage on my 2080 is the secret? The more complex the mission the better the improvement I think.

I hoped latest dcs update from yesterday made this mod unnecessary.... No cigar.

These mods keep being GOLD and MANDATORY for everyone in VR. Period.

Thank you Taz.

Based on DCS history, it takes several years apparently for ED to implement something useful like this.

Hi Taz, firstly, thanks for this - great work! I have a couple of questions: This will need re enabling after each update I presume? And should work just fine after re applying? I am just going to use the core & liveries mods, as I use several modded cockpits which I dont want to give up.

Further up this page, there is an attached file from Shurik75 for some textures not covered in your release....where do these go please?

Thanks again!

Hi @Taz1004, awesome work!. What's the recommended practice when performing DCS updates? Disable all these mods, delete the shader caches, update DCS, start DCS to ensure it works fine, reenable these mods and then delete the shader caches again? Thanks heaps in advance.

Also, how does this work with other mods such as Bartheks caucusus texture mods and the unofficial roughmets ? I guess basic query is, if you various other mods, is it best to run your mod first, then apply any others over the top? Of course, I understand that in adding hi res skins and cockpit mods etc, we will be messing with the "ideal" package you created, but I am ahppy to trade off some performance for the improvements that other mods give.

I'm using it with Bartheks terrain mod and it works just fine.

Core has Reduced included.  I just updated IFLOLS mod files to include optimization.  I've forgotten about that mod.  I need a list of my mod to keep track of for myself.

Yes to your procedure.

I wasn't sure what Surik75's file does, I'm assuming it optimizes the ones I didn't bother to optimize.  If that is the case, install it as separate mod and shouldn't conflict.

That's basically what I do on every DCS update.

Barthek's no problem but other cockpit mods that doesn't go into SavedGames, would probably conflict.  This mod optimizes majority of DCS content.  And if one or two isn't optimized, shouldn't hurt that much unless it's ridiculously large.  If you want to install other high res mods, just install on top of this one.  You can optimize the Roughmet and Normal map of the high res mod if you want to.

Apologies to dig into this a bit further. To be sure I am understanding? If you are using Barthek's Caucasus and your Better Tree's,  this MOD should be applied before those two? or after? or doesn't matter?

Great work and thanks for sharing and putting up with all our questions.

Doesn't matter.  Most mods simply overwrite default files.  As long as the mods overwrite different files, order doesn't matter.  If two mods overwrite same default files, then you have conflict and you need to figure out the order.  Mod managers should tell you if mods conflict.
