This is the same as on aircraft carriers. Nice lighting without shadows has a strange effect.
Don't we have special setting for that now?
Don't remember the name and I'm not on my computer.

I believe it is called Secondary Shadows in the system menu.

Could you please confirm if you have enabled that setting or not? And if not, could you turn it on and post some new pictures?

Love this map... Any chance of getting more of the small villages and road networks sorted out south of Abu Dhuhar like you all did north of Raqqa. Huge potential for operations there.

@Devrim It's not a typo. This is intended as they cannot use real names and trade marks. Similar as on other maps.

@MAXsenna The question was kinda rhetorical. The secondary shadows work only on the carrier. The new lighting that was introduced recently for PG can allow lightening up objects and our cockpits dynamically but cannot cast shadows yet. I believe here is the same. Current engine limitation that ED plans to improve.

For a long time we did not get in touch, but all this time the work did not stop.  Improving, optimizing, adding, introducing something new - everything we worked on was connected with these words.  Today we will show new night lighting and some hangars.

The update includes many minor improvements - we made sure that the map is relevant and fresh.

So what's most interesting:

New lighting technology added.

Added right-hand traffic in Cyprus. Map description updated.

Added kneeboard (yeah, this fix has long been waiting in the wings)

good to hear something from your guys. Syria is still my most used map.
How about some bug fixes together with the improvements? 

- Light poles on runway finals, at least in Haifa and Gazipasa


- Inverted ILS, always active for the wrong direction respective to the wind (although this is a DCS problem in general I think)
- many more

Yep I know that they don't use the exact same names or brands, you're right, but I don't think it's a trade mark. Let me tell you:

Adana = a city name of Turkey.
Şehir = "city"
Hastanesi = "Hospital"

It means "Adana City Hospital". So, we see it as "Adana Hity Cospital". 🙂 

If they do want to change something, they may not use the city name there; just "Şehir Hastanesi", that's it.

Whatever. Not big deal, just wanted to say that it looks weird for local people. 😄

I am glad you still upgrade this map. Is their a remote chance the City of Afrin in northern Syria will be added (currently it is a road crossing in a field)?

The biggest issue is, it is a landmark(!) present on the MFD moving map (by name) and on the F10 flight map.

If you look outside the cockpit there is not even a bunch of buildings.

I am totally fine with a bunch of generic buildings outlining the city, but it's currently missing completely.

Why is there a plan to implement right hand traffic in Cyprus? Has it changed really recently? I'm pretty sure it's left hand traffic...  (e.g. https://www.cyprusparadise.com/articles/practical-information/ and https://www.enjoytravel.com/en/travel-news/driving/driving-in-cyprus-15-things-you-need-to-know  and https://www.worldstandards.eu/cars/list-of-left-driving-countries/ )

 

edit - I see the description has now changed to say left hand traffic.

Today we will show some screenshots and videos from the new update and a list of changes. We continue to improve "DCS: Syria map" thanks to you, we read all your messages. Work on "Syria" continues, the map will be improved and developed along with the DCS. You already know that the map has received a global update on night lighting, as well as work has been done on optimization. In addition to this, the changes affected all areas of the map: UI, VD, airfields, models, assets and scenes.

List of updates:
Added lighting using a new real-time technology.
Added left-hand traffic in Cyprus.
Added kneeboard (tablet).
Updated mission generator.
Added helipads on GUI map.
Added parking for large aircraft.
Optimized and improved city building models.
Improved airfield hangar models.
Improved models of original objects.
Added destruction models for Aleppo Power Plant and Lafarge Factory.
Improved the scenes of the original buildings in Haifa, Beirut, Adana and Damascus.
Trees in the forest have been optimized.
Tree collisions have been simplified.
Added parking for MiG-23 Marj Ruhayyil, Shayrat, Tiyas.
Fixed frequency settings for Gazipasa, Rene Mouawad, Ramat David, Ercan, Beirut, HATAY airfields.
Taxiing Tal Siman, Beirut fixed.
Fixed lighting for Sanliurfa, Adana, Khmeimim, Haifa.
Fixed plates Akrotir, Incirlik.
Removed objects from Rene Mouawad parking lots.
