Update on Friday!! 😄

Update on Friday!! 😱

After nearly 35 years in IT I learned one thing, you never ever Ever eVeR EVER do an update before a weekend or holiday... EVER!

For a while ED was only doing updates on Wednesdays--at least it was my impression. Did I read a statement a couple of years ago that declared this? I have the feeling that I did, but maybe not.

Not that I want to upset everyone whoa like myself has been waiting excitedly on the coming 2.9 update, I have to say, every time I see an announcement that an update will come on Friday, I get a little knot in my stomach--probably because of IT-PTSD.

I just had to say this. I don't expect anyone to change anything, and ED is responsable enough to do what they think is best.

Thank you--breathing into my brown paper bag for now.

Chill. The update is on Thursday, so no big deal.

Is there a chance that the update is too big? So is the 50gb somewhere?

I don't have a fast connection, that's why I'm asking 🙂

As far as I know, quite a few things will change in the DCS core and also because I have all the DCS maps e.g. the Sinai which has, if I'm not mistaken, an expansion with new airports, buildings, etc. maybe the South Atlantic too

You better expect a large download..... 50GB is not unrealistic - could easily be more than that.

So that's good, right?

Size will depend on what you already have installed, if you have many modules the size of the patch increases for you.

About Panic, any chance to need specific version of  GPU drivers for the next update?

Newest drivers tend to be the best option.

You could remove (through the Module Manager) your least used Map(s), that would reduce the patch size for you. Then you can at a later date re-install the maps that you removed.

Are you all sirs talking about "2.9 OB" update?

Yes. Updates (depending on the amount of maps/modules you have installed) can be pretty large. Someone was worried about the size.

Yes, I know, I don't have a capacity problem, I just don't have, as I said, a fast connection (I have 50mbs because I live on an island in Greece, which unfortunately does not have such good connections)

And of course, the bigger the update, the better I guess...

Rule of thumb: Don't patch on fly-day, don't fly on patch-day..... 😅

I would trade the high desert mountains of Idaho and 1gig internet for 50mb on an island in Greece any day! Download overnight, wake up to a perfect sunrise and a triple shot coffee, then sit down for a good… no, great day of (pretend) flying 😃

Have those of you, that are dreaming of a paradise on greek islands ever been on one?

Last time I was on holidays there my conclusion was "meh". Sure - some(!) of the landscapes are beautiful. But others are.... dry, bare and rather unpleasant. Like on every other mediterrainean island. Just my subjective opinion of course!

No just imagining. I try to assume theres no over crowding, rude pushy people and jam-packed city-scapes. I picture my vacations to Hawaii, just in a different ocean😂 100% fairy tale

That is a beautiful scenery. No question. But handpicked nevertheless. I didn't mean to downplay greek islands, just relativise the "paradise"-aspect.

I have the same feelings for islands like Mauritius or Reunion..... 🤗

For me there is no photo
living on an island in Greece with its white houses, blue doors and shutters against a backdrop of the Mediterranean instead of the towns of northern France the choice is quickly made.

As for the connection, I have fiber and I download at 3MB/s max
even at night.😋
