DCS: Iraq
We are also excited to announce an Iraq map coming to DCS. From Operation Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom to the War on Terror, Iraq has been one of the most significant flash points of the late-20th and early 21st centuries. The Iraq map will initially be centred on Baghdad to best provide War-on-Terror and War on Isis scenarios. Later, the map will be expanded south to provide older scenarios like Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom.

For me the most interesting period for the Iraq map is the 80s and the Iraq Iran war. So many air battles happened in that war.

This is excellent news NineLine.  Prepare for the SMEs on this one!  If you're able to answer any of the below questions, It would be appreciated:

1. What was the reasoning for expanding south, and leaving the North out of your plans?  I know you won't be able to make everyone happy, just curious. 

2. In the 2024/beyond video, are you able to tell us what the regions of Iraq were showcased?  I saw Baghdad, but I'm thinking specifically of the valley in 3:42 and the mountain range in 5:46?

I was also left a bit confused from Nick’s interview and from the last newsletter. Is the Afghanistan map also launching in 2024, or is that “beyond”?

Easiest way to interpret the statement is that it’ll be released when ready.

Pointless even trying to guess. 
If you assume 2025, it’s unlikely that you’ll be disappointed

Well Iraq was stated for 2024 (which they don't typically do unless they are pretty sure its going to be ready) so I would bet money Afghanistan isn't coming out until 2025 or later, I mean it wasn't even mentioned in the Beyond video.  Which I think is a great decision IMHO.

100% prepare for the worst hope for the best

That said, both were featured in the video so that is always a good sign.

Hi Kola is in development and going well, we even featured it in the 2024 & beyond video.

Any further plans concerning training areas worldwide ?  Death Valley , Mach Loop , Axalp , Los Llanos,Spain ( home of the TLP )

FInally, as an Iraqi who lived through Iraq - Iran war, First and Second Gulf wars, this will be very intersting.

I just hope this map is modeled correctly and in more detailed than persian gulf.

Another desert map! Could not care less about a map exclusively desired by Apache pilots to shoot defenseless goat farmers (They chose this over Korea or Vietnam).

Apaches weren't in Vietnam or Korea. The Cobra was in Vietnam but ED wants to stagger out releases for modules because they are literally running out and want everyone to buy Apache. Also it's obvious they don't care about REDFOR players. The only module that was even announced recently for REDFOR by ED is MiG-29A which is already in the game (not FF). If they also were developing other old modules like Su-25 or Yak-38 I would understand but they are not.

We are limited by available docs and government agencies with many Redfor aircraft, no one wants a Su-25 than me, but it's not possible right now. But again, this is not the right topic.

Remember Check Six Simulation has building North End Australia bases and Training grounds of Australian Air Force. The other, has none plans yet by ED and/or 3rd Parties.

Well, hopefully the map is designed in a way that lets us portray the Iran-Iraq war, which had been going on in that area for almost a decade.

DS and the actual *war* part of OIF have been quite short, compared to the years of conflicht between those two countries. We already have a good deal of assets for this war and here's more to come.

While those were short, there is nothing stopping anyone from adding some fictional embellishment. I'm looking forward to both historical missions and hypothetical proxy wars between the US and a healthier USSR in the middle east.
