I happily pre-ordered the full map instantly after receiving the news. I want to fly somewhere new, I want to experience your latest terrain tech, and well, want to support ED. So thank you for all that!

But you saying that you're not planning any airfields of neighbouring countries is something that puzzles me. So you do model parts of neighbouring countries, but how are we supposed to fly into and out of Afghanistan without ANY airfields across the border? Why model these areas outside of Afghanistan in the first place if really only AI can make use of them? I know we can spawn in the air, but that is just kind of "meh"...

I hope that at some point you will model at least one airfield of each country modelled, that would be fantastic.

Let me explain why this is a decision that can be improved upon.
Apart from the fact that Mary, Turkmenistan was the home of Авиабаза 1521, Мары - Центр боевого применения | Airbase 1521, Mary - Combat Operations Center or else known as Soviet Top Gun, this is the perfect home for the full fidelity MiG-23 and the MiG-29.

Additionally, together with the Kokaydy airport in Termez, Uzbekistan, they played a very important role for the Soviet Union's operations in Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989 for various aircraft that are available already or are coming soon to DCS World.
MiG-21, MiG-23, MiG-29, Su-17/22, Su-25, Mi-24, Mi-8.
Since you mention "Soviet operations of the 1980s place Afghanistan as one of the most important combat theatres of the past half century." in your product description, it is only reasonable that we have the airports available to historically re-enact those operations and create scenarios that will bring the community together.
If you need more information, please do not hesitate to pm me.

 

This would seem an obvious choice. It would prevent many years of ED headache from us REDFOR guys pleading. I could see another Nevada scenario (Fallon, Yuma etc.), missing out on key infrastructure that makes sense in the scope of available assets.

Exactly. Even if I didn’t get to drop a bomb (simulating a scrubbed mission), that doesn’t bother me at all. My friends and I used to fly super long flights way back in the day (high school) on a different sim. Even scheduling them as late as 2200 and flying till 0500-0600 (during summer break).

I was looking forward to a lengthy flight from the carrier. I guess ED found that quixotic.

I know how long EA can drag out and I'm not encouraging or discouraging anyone from buying into it. I'm personally waiting at least for Afghanistan East. But @Hotdognz asked for the release plan, which is a little buried in the wall of text on page 1, so I figured I'd help out. And now it seems I'm being ridiculed for being helpful. Go figure.

I'll apologise if thats how it came across, sorry.

I'm happy to wait 9 months for all 3 parts, that is in accordance with the plan in the FAQ

I'll take this opportunity to point out for the third time in this thread that Khorog Airport is in Tajikistan, not Afghanistan, contradicting the statement made by @BIGNEWY that "airfields are only planned within the borders of Afghanistan. There are currently no plans to add airfields from neighboring countries." Unless there is an identically-named Khorog Airport across the river from Khorog, Tajikistan and its co-located Khorog Airport (ICAO: UTOD), there is already an airfield from a neighboring country on the planned map. It's misplaced on the map if it's showing as inside the border of Afghanistan. I'd really appreciate clarification from ED about this, as well as the mentions of the Dasht e Kavir and Dasht e Lut, both of which are outside the boundary provided by the announcement map (being deep in Iranian territory) but are mentioned in the press releases.

If we could simply add a flat, dusty brown texture from the Afghan border to the Indian Ocean, would allow for that. Adding some sat textures like Eastern Iran and Afghanistan is represented on the Persian Gulf map, would be awesome and shouldn't hit performance much.

South Atlantic performance is pretty solid.

And long ingress flights for F-14B and F/A-18C was a reality and some in the community would love it. (Especially if the C-130J is added in the future).

Or other details to find your target... Hell even a mission briefing picture of the target area may look very different, due to lack of detail.

That's why it's important people understand the "low detail" concept and hopefully buy the goddamn complete map, best from the start, instead of struggling in MP to find stuff, until someone tells them it may be due to the detailed map part not being installed.

So just to confirm and im not confused with what was said, if NL or BN can confirm it based on the FAQ.

I buy the full map in June (lets say the end of it) get the Southwest region in high detail, the East and North in low detail, just saying im ok with this.

End of Sept (3 months), I would revive a map update adding the next high detail part (East Afghanistan)

End of Dec (3 months), I would receive a map update adding the next part (North Afghanistan)

Now if the time lines blow out, can I expect this to do what other ED modules have done and extend well out past your 3 month predictions ?? into years of waiting, I believe you know or should know how far each part is and should be able to at least share some insight if you want to give the community clarity with the way you are releasing this.

I see no problems at all. 

You start in the eastern area of the map part you bought (say KAF, Kandahar) fly south and everything is fine, now the server you joined spawns an action 20 NM east in the detailed area west of Kabul, that you don't own. If you fly in a group you can now disconnect and leave the server, or try to support your lead/wingman and pray you can identify what he sees... As in a MP environment you don't necessarily know beforehand where enemies or targets will present themselves. So you better buy the complete map anyway.

I mean, i get the idea to have an option to safe discspace, or buying peacemeal, but the reality is, it does make a lot of sense to get the whole map for less than $50 instead of paying 3 x $23 = $69 or more, but that requires to scroll and read through 3 paragraphs, where it should be the first option / message in bold and red.

Would have prevented a lot of drama.

I believe that it has something to do with Steam not allowing sales without a definitive release date.. ED has mentioned that in the past… But if the f-4e is on there for pre-order then I”m obviously wrong Or maybe it just takes a bit longer for Steam to approve and post it

You start in the eastern area of the map part you bought (say KAF, Kandahar) fly south and everything is fine, now the server you joined spawns an action 20 NM east in the detailed area west of Kabul, that you don't own. If you fly in a group you can now disconnect and leave the server, or try to support your lead/wingman and pray you can identify what he sees... As in a MP environment you don't necessarily know beforehand where enemies or targets will present themselves. So you better buy the complete map anyway.

I mean, i get the idea to have an option to safe discspace, or buying peacemeal, but the reality is, it does make a lot of sense to get the whole map for less than $50 instead of paying 3 x $23 = $69 or more, but that requires to scroll and read through 3 paragraphs, where it should be the first option / message in bold and red.

Would have prevented a lot of drama.

 

I never bought the JF-17. Therefore I don't fly the JF-17. And one thing I never ever do is complain that I can't fly the JF-17, because I've had the option to buy it and never did. So it's a non-issue.

 

Fly what you buy. If you don't buy, then you can't fly. It's that simple.
