digitaljjd Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 This is just eye candy overload! Awesome! I'm just excited that we can finally get to use the fire extinguishers after staring at them for so long.
Robin_Hood Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 This sim will be incredible :) I, too, wonder about how the cut-off detent will be dealed with on a non- TM Warthog throttle (you can't expect everyone to buy this expensive piece of equipment, even though the combination sim-joystick will be an unprecedented extasy). Is cut-off part of the throttle range, or separate ? If it is, is it adjustable so that it fits one's liking ? These are questions that come to my mind when I see Matt start the engines (no start button ? what a lazy way to start them :D) :) 2nd French Fighter Squadron

Booger Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Thanks for such a quick #2, lord knows you all are quite busy.
empeck Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 I'd love to start this beauty by myself already! I have a question - could someone at ED show us this cockpit in shaded wireframe mode in 3dsMAX? There is so much detail, that I'd love to see how it's done :) How many polygons, animated objects, textures this cockpit have? I'm just curious :)
nemises Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 This sim will be incredible :) I, too, wonder about how the cut-off detent will be dealed with on a non- TM Warthog throttle (you can't expect everyone to buy this expensive piece of equipment, even though the combination sim-joystick will be an unprecedented extasy). These are questions that come to my mind when I see Matt start the engines (no start button ? what a lazy way to start them :D) :) Hmm, interesting question, I guess, since it is modelled, and possible with the TM Hotas Warthog, that it should be possible also in a non TM hotas ... allthough the TMHW has the lift detents, which would definately help with not accidentally bumping them to start ;) At worst, I expect a key-combo will be able to set the throttle to start (kind of like the auto throttle keypresses in BS).
pyates2104 Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 The APU provides the engine with the necessary air pressure to turn the engine starter unit, the apu can be turned off after the engines are started. Unless the starters are start/generators but I dont think so. You turn the air off too soon it will not work correctly and damage could happen to the engine. It also provides AC elect power and possibly hyd power if the Engine generators and pumps are not online... so not a good idea to turn off the APU until you have at least 1 engine and 1 Engine generator switched on.
GGTharos Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 The cut-off is operated by key combination on the keyboard. You could program this to be part of your throttle range with certain joysticks, though I imagine that, with a non-TM Warthog HOTAS you would probably just end up using the keyboard. It isn't going to cause you any trouble since it's only start up and shut down, so you should have no need for this in-flight. That said, I have to say that doing it with the TM-W just rocks. This sim will be incredible :) I, too, wonder about how the cut-off detent will be dealed with on a non- TM Warthog throttle (you can't expect everyone to buy this expensive piece of equipment, even though the combination sim-joystick will be an unprecedented extasy). thereminqblank Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 I would like to learn more about the seat height adjustment feature. Will there be a Producer's Note on this? Thanks for the new note, looks awesome! "Unholy Roller" [sIGPIC]http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/images/userbars/A-10C_UserBar_01.gif[/sIGPIC]
ED Team Wags Posted June 30, 2010 Author ED Team Posted June 30, 2010 whats the next one, whats the next one, whats the next one, whats the next one?!?! sorry excited. :music_whistling: can any one else imagine them selves siting there for five minutes, playing with the seat hight? I feature that would go well with the ajustable seat would be being able to set your pilot hight in profile, and need to adjust accordingly. Navigation systems; might have to be a two-part note. Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/wagmatt Twitch: wagmatt System: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3729544#post3729544
ED Team Wags Posted June 30, 2010 Author ED Team Posted June 30, 2010 Wow! I can't WAIT for this release! I'm going to seriously spend so many hours on this sim. I have 2 questions though: Will DCS A-10C be multiplayer compatible with FC2/Blackshark? If so...whats up with the terrain? For the engine cutoff on the throttle, can this be programmed to any joystick with a detent in it? Yes, we plan to make it online compatible with Black Shark; we do not know yet about FC2 (too early). ED Team Wags Posted June 30, 2010 Author ED Team Posted June 30, 2010 Thanks for trying Goose, have seen those already. What I would really like to see is the new server browser/chat/friends ect ...functions. When they are done (they are currently not), we'll post some screens. ED Team Wags Posted June 30, 2010 Author ED Team Posted June 30, 2010 I like how the control column wobbles as the left engine spools up. Detail!! :D For WIP it's looking great so far, good job Matt  Yes, you visually see the hydraulic control actuators kicking in. Yes, you need the APU on to start both engines (you cannot use one to start the other). Once both engines are running and powering the AC generators, you can then switch off the APU... unless you need to turn it back on later for an air-start. dennisllante Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Anyone has an idea how much will the TM HOTAS be?
cctoide Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 I'd enjoy seeing the A-10C's damage model in action, though I guess that's unlikely as IIRC it wasn't done in the BS notes either. I think I already know the answer but it'd be great to see if you can indeed lose an entire engine or elevator and keep flying, and how that affects the flight model. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SinandGrin Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Awesome Video, I love how quickly this next producer's Note came out. I realize this is still very much a work in progress, but I was a bit disappointed to hear the APU and Engine turbine sounds. They sound almost identical to the Ka-50 Blackshark's APU and Turbines. Is there any planed sound modification planned for the A-10C, or is this pretty much what we'll get in the finished product? What did Wags mean in his first post, "No noise map yet" ?
Steve Davies Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 I was a bit disappointed to hear the APU and Engine turbine sounds. They sound almost identical to the Ka-50 Blackshark's APU and Turbines. I would hazard a guess that it was something to do with the recording - in the sim, the sounds are absolutely incredible and clearly not copied over from BS. EtherealN Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 What did Wags mean in his first post, "No noise map yet" ? A "noise map" is a method to give details to very large textured objects, such as terrain, without having to use Terabyte-size texture files. (Compare to Parallax Mapping which is used to give 2D textures the appearance of being 3D, and Bump Maps which do similar jobs but for slightly different applications and circumstances.) So the "amateur-friendly" way to put it would be that the terrain you see in the video is not as detailed as it will be once it is done.
