next question, what is steam??

It's the name of Valve's digital distribution service. So if you've read somewhere that the game is available on Steam or something like that, that's what it's referring to - http://store.steampowered.com/

If that's not what you're talking about, more information would be required. :)

The question would be why as uninstalling and reinstalling do not utilize activations, apart from the 1.2.1. known issue which would account for one.

To answer the question, navigate here

http://proactive.star-force.com/2.0/activate.php

Enter serial and click 'Serial Number Parameters'. You will then be informed when and why you used activations.

Question for the a10 avionics experts:

When entering mark point mode, mark z becomes the default steer point (assuming you haven't created mark A yet)

So when you TMS aft long to set SPI to steer every weapon event creates a new SPI. If you have slaved all sensors to SPI this means that your TGP will slave to the point in space that the IFFCC says the weapons will hit (where the pipper was when you fired/released). This is most useful when delivering weapons visually (without the aid TGP) but still wanting to BDA with your TGP. It's also very useful in conjunction with the HUD SPI submode...where the SPI tracks the IFFCC solution depending on master-mode.

Okay, so here's the question. The above will only work before you create your first mark point. After that you will have to manually select mark Z every time you release a weapon (I have tried selecting mark Z as steer, SPI to steer and dropping/firing another weapon but it no longer auto updates steer to new mark Z)

Is this correct? If so is there a workaround? The above technique is very useful but so is creating mark points... What to do?

I'm a bit confused with all this deactivation/uninstall stuff with DCS World.

I'm still running the standalone v1.1.1.1. If I decide to eventually install the DCS World + A-10C Module, can I keep my current standalone v.1.1.1.1 install intact and working (as a backup if something goes fubar with DCS World version)? Do I need to deactivate? Because instructions say that uninstall previous versions (= does that mean only DCS World Modules, not standalone?) and deactivate:

Installation

  • Uninstall all previous DCS products prior to versions 1.2.1

Note: Deactivate your products!

  • To be safe, delete \Saved Games\DCS files
  • Install DCS World 1.2.1
  • Install DCS module 1.2.1

I have a working Helios setup. Can I just copy the .lua-files to DCS World? I have to give Helios software the new path for DSC World? I think I have to create my keyboard and HOTAS button configurations from scratch anyway, because too many changes compared with v1.1.1.1.

You can leave your 1.1.1.1 install alone. DCS world installs separately from it. Plus World should automatically detect the installation and not require a new activation. The problem we are having is an oversight in the latest release that caused the program to not recognize or check for the existing keys thus forcing everybody to have to deactivate/activate again. This is not normally the case. As for the importation of settings and what not from 1.1.1.1 to world, I have heard that it is not recommended because the file structures are different. I know that applies to things like HOTAS. I am not sure about the Helios configs.

That doesn't sound correct to me, so long as the TGP is still slaved to your steerpoint it should move to the new location of markpoint Z. Here's some things to try/verify:

  • Is Mark Z being updated/moved/recreated upon weapon release while it's active? I'd test this by releasing a weapon, verify it's been marked on your TAD, fly a short distance and then release again, and make sure the TAD marker is moving.
  • If you make your steerpoint your SPI and then use china-hat-fwd-long to slave all sensors to the SPI (rather than china-hat-aft-long to slave the TGP to the steerpoint specifically), does the behaviour change at all?

It might be worth doing these before you create any markpoints, then repeat them after you've made one or two.

Thanks for the ideas, gave them a go and this is what I found:

Yes it's updating on every weapon release.

No, once you have created Mark A, a newly created Mark Z will not automatically become the Steer/SPI (like it will before you create Mark A) regardless of selecting the last Mark Z and making it Steer/SPI (As soon as a weapon event occurs Mark A becomes Steer/SPI and you must manually select Mark Z)

I'm going to prepare a quick track to illustrate this

This could definitely be the way the real thing behaves.

I have seen a fair amount of RL hud tape that would indicate that real pilots use Mark Z a lot in training (You see the target sans pipper with no steer box, pilot lines up and shoots and as he pulls away the steer box appears over the target.)

Just seems kind of off that this will only work before you place any markpoints

Are the new (higher) drag characteristics realistic, or at least intentional? There have been reports of rather low top speeds with some of the usual loadouts. Or are they an unforeseen consequence of the FM adjustments?

I can't say right now why it was done in this way. Need to check my sources. A possible workaround of this problem would be to use TAD symbol as SPI instead of markpoint. Try to hook the weapon event symbol (the white triangle) on the TAD, and make it SPI.

Thanks for the tip.

With this method the SPI still does not carry over to the new Mark Z (with the last Mark Z actively hooked and set as SPI). The hook disappears (does not jump to new Mark Z) but the SPI remains where the last Mark Z was.

I have to test it a bit more, as I type I realize I was still in mark mode. Might work differently in mission or flight plan mode

Uh oh.... Since installing 1.2.1 World and 1.2.1 A10C, and then having the auto updater update, my game no longer works. I suspect my Kaspersky anti-virus because it''s identifying the DCS system as having a "PDM Logger". Anyone else having the same problem? Just before it crashed, I was seeing the mouse pointer stutter. That made it hard to switch switches. Never had these problems with 1.2.0

If it is the Antivirus try to exclude the C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics Folder and subfolders. Usually, the realtime scan has such an option, for exactly that reason. :D

It's a workaround, though, and Kaspersky should be informed about the false positive to fix it.

Just my two cent.

Mirrors

Hey guys,

I was just wondering if there was a hot key for turning Mirrors on and off. I basically like and use the mirrors in the Black Shark but I don't like them on in the A-10C. Any way I have have them on for one aircraft but off for another?

Thanks

Question: how can I make an A.I. A-10 attack my A-10 in the editor? I got it to work with the P-51D, but I don't seem to be able to set an A-10 to any air-to-air tasks. If I set him to use no task or an air-to-ground task, he ignores me and doesn't even try to defend himself.

Solution: give the A.I. A-10C a targeting pod and sidewinders. It may work without sidewinders; the critical piece is the TGP. I couldn't get him to attack me--with or without missiles--without him having a TGP.

No, you just have 8 and 20 degree deployment (IIRC).

Hey i have two questions

1: during the landing training mission you select batumi runway, when selected on the right mfd i can see the radio frequency and ils number, then near the runway the instructor tells you to set the course on the hsi to 130. Where do you get this number? i.e. if im in a mission and land on another runway where do i get that number?

2: this one was a strange thing during the bomb training mission. When i was practicing with mk82 on ccip when i holded my weapon release button (without yet releasing a bomb) the plane suddenly started to turn left and i had to fight it a lot with the stick to the right. It continued that way until i applied some strong rudder on the opposite direction (right) and it corrected itself, then it did it again and corrected the same way. Was this a weather thing (wind or something else) or a navigation issue?

Thanks.

1: You can get runway headings from the DIVERT menu, given under RWY in tens of degrees. The number in parentheses is the runway length in feet.

Some helpful people have also published various ground charts/airfield diagrams. You can print them and take advantage of the information.

One of them here:

http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=37&file=1214

BTW, when it comes to for example Batumi (and perhaps other airfields as well), I've seen some different bearings, e.g. it may be RWY 12 or RWY 13. But it must be somewhere between 119 and 131 degrees anyway. And the orientation of the magnetic fields change anyway all the time. So be prepared to see some inaccuracies with these charts. :)
