PlainSight Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Just one thing. Warthog is this awesome, steel, hall effect loaded beast, it would be nice if they included some optional rudder pedals of the same class and style, don't you think? Using saitek plastic just doesn't seem to fit in this category. [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

This has been a hot topic of discussion between myself & some of my team members and the TM peeps for quite some time, and I think they finally have their ears peeled... Time will tell (if they actually are listening to us) and if they determine that it's a cost effective project worth investing in... Just know that there's nothing I'm more adamant about at this moment than having TM build high-end rudder pedals for their new baby. I've said it often before, and I'll say it again: We need rudder pedals! Callsign.Vega Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 LOL, Cougar hard to program with foxy ? It may be long, but hard ? lol. Wait and see for the program i love people prasing song of something they never viewed or used. Explain a lot about religious creeds. Not necessarily "hard", but certainly way more tedious than it needs to be. There have been previews of the new TARGET software, so people aren't completely blind to the fact it will be a definitive improvement. As a Pastafarian, I am offended by your religious quip. hassata Posted September 11, 2010 Author Posted September 11, 2010 Considering foxy was created by a sim fan in his spare time for other fans, it's a damn fine piece of software. Very powerful if you spent some time with it-just look at a Jagstang's profile for F4 or Viper's for FC2 and BS. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

You can also buy a BMW car body for your Miata if you choose... but if you want a real BMW, you're gonna be paying [a lot more] for it. HOTAS Warthog vs. real A-10 stick = good deal IMHO. I've said it often before, and I'll say it again: We need rudder pedals! What i really don t get its the fact theuy already HAVE a real good RCS system, that can really compete with simped (as long you don t need f16 replica ones)when you put hall sensors. They build it during 10 years, most of them are still working. So they have the plan, if they haven t thrown out everything they have the molds, they just need to wire it USB, no feat at all for a company like that, and goes Hall, ally with cubby, or even no brain feat at all. Whats goes on ? Put on the building line again ? Do they fell saitek, simped and CH close the market, with low/medium/high quality market, so its not comercially worth? PlainSight Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Can this stick be rotated a little to the left on it's yaw axis? This gives some extra comfort for your wrist, since you grab it with right hand from side a bit. F16 stick ofcourse didn't need this "feature", since it was side mounted, right in front of a hand. [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Callsign.Vega Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 I don't think it should be hard to modify it to rotate on it's flat base just by drilling some new holes. jocko417 Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 I don't think it should be hard to modify it to rotate on it's flat base just by drilling some new holes. He meant can you have the grip rotated a bit but still have the axes of motion the way they are - the short answer is no. If you just rotate the base you end up with the stick action being rotated as well. The real solution would be to make a new stick shaft with the PS2 connector portion rotated so that when the grip is attached it will be aligned differently, while the axes of motion stay the same. I bet Ian J or some other CNC guru will offer a new stick shaft, just like in the Uber series of replacement Cougar gimbals. Machining a new part is not hard, just depends on how hard it is for the user to take the original apart and install the new shaft, as well as removing the wiring from the original and installing it in the new one.

Ah, your right. You can clearly see the stick is a good 10 deg or so rotated on it's yaw axis. I wonder why Thrustmaster didn't make the off-set into this stick? Seem's like they made it for a side-stick instead of middle that way. It's funny though from the DCS sim picture it look's like they didn't model the stick angle correctly. ;) Edited September 12, 2010 by Callsign.Vega GPU: RTX 4090 - 3,000 MHz core / 12,000 MHz VRAM. Probably because most people have it on their desk just like a side-stick :P Adding some kind of "twisted"-option would surely be too expensive in terms of public demand - most, I'm certain, are perfectly fine with a fixed stick :) My DCS stream [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Past broadcasts, Highlights Currently too much to do... But watch and (maybe) learn something :)
PlainSight Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Maybe i'm just nitpicking, but i've modded my Logi extreme 3d pro this way. it features a rudder twist so i just disabled the pot and glued it in left-twist position. It's more comfortable this way. This twist is even more apparent in russian aircrafts, just look at KA-50, for example. [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
leafer Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 That pit is too sexy...c'mon, release it already. Then you'll tell us what's next and the cycle begins again. 1 ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
Bwaze Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 I think the easiest solution would be a short extender that would go between the stick and the base. I think some PVC tubing has exactly the same diameter and thread (M36, 2mm step) needed to screw it directly between the pieces, and soldering new connectors should be straightforward. I'm sure with teflon tape you could achieve tight fit at any angle of stick you want. And the best thing is the stick would remain unmodified.
jocko417 Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Yes, that would be a cheaper way than the one I was thinking of. I was thinking about an adapter about an inch or two thick, male PS2 on the bottom wired to a female PS2 on the top that is rotated left about ten degrees. The stick grip would connect to the top. It would have it's own locking ring. Something for the CNC guys to think about :) As long as it's not too long the stick feel shouldn't change too much. Any time you extend a stick you get a looser feel to it due to the longer moment arm. Although I never used one, some Cougar owners had extended stick shafts and needed to install stronger springs in order to keep the feel the same. Also, if the stick shaft gets long enough that metal grip we like so much becomes a bit of a hindrance - all the weight at the top means the stick won't center very quickly. And yes, all this talk about ergonomics and stick grips reminded me to go back and watch that start up video again. Unlike the RL version, DCS has the stick aligned fore and aft. Weird.

You can angle it any way you want with the base plate removed and I'm sure you can offset your X/Y- axes alignments via software (although I haven't tried this yet).
