Mercury Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 It seems an important word is missing from the title of this new Microsoft Flight. That's the only message I got from this teaser. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Specs: i7 920, GTX295, 6GB Corsair Dominator 1600Mhz, 1TB WD, ASUS P6T Deluxe, 1000W Corsair PSU, Coolermaster Cosmos "S" case, X-52pro, TrackIR 4
104th_Crunch Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Let's just hope there is still some sim left in Microsoft Flight. I wouldn't hold my breath, but I hope I am wrong. Why can't they just cater to the sim crowd and the casual crowd.
Steel Jaw Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Mark my words: this new project from M$ will have NOTHING for the hardcore simmer. "You see, IronHand is my thing" My specs: W10 Pro, I5/11600K o/c to 4800 @1.32v, 64 GB 3200 XML RAM, Red Dragon 7800XT/16GB.
Moa Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Here's the Microsoft flight home page. Just some marketing spiel at the moment. http://www.microsoft.com/games/flight/ The video looks like it was a non-realtime demo (as is often done for games these days - especially console games). Eagle Dynamics is one of the few companies honest enough where the real game is used for the demos.
213 Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 it's for general public which means it'll likely be horrible.
deadsmell Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 K im marking your words on my little notepad here. :P Ya know though, while I may not entirely agree with microsofts decision regarding aces studio, and what they have decided to do with the flight simulator series....... In light of the events of September 11th, and the fact that the cowardly racial slurs had been using microsoft flight simulator as a tool to practice and plan their cowardly attack. Can you really blame Microsoft for re-evaluating the future of the franchise?... As I said, I may not agree with the decision, but I can certainly understand, and respect their decision to take the series in a new direction. Personally I think it will be great for the genre. A heavy hitter coming back into the ring, can only serve to help reinvigorate the flight sim market. Obviously their intention will be to capture the experience and feeling of flight, igniting the imaginations of people young and old that so choose to play it, and for those that enjoy it, they will certainly find themselves on the flight sim road, searching out other sims, and thus fueling the market. Im keeping an open mind, and hopeful that "microsoft" or whoever is developing it, delivers something beautiful, if not entirely technically accurate. It may not be "HARDCORE" but who knows, it may just be FUN. :) 1 Dont let the smell get to ya...............
HiJack Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 This must be a console make porting to Windows as a second alternative. We all know where that brings PC features :(

dsobbe Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Did anyone else notice that the commercials that run ahead of the trailer are seamless, while the trailer pauses every five seconds to load. Hmm. I think I'll buy some Yoplait, instead. I can't believe Microsoft is still whipping this dead horse.
pauldy Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 So will this be a simulator or another of those Arcade flyer types? Although still hoping this wouldn't become like an english version of Jet de go or something.. lol [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

I would bet that FS9 and FSX together has more active users thal all other flight sims together.
TeeJay82 Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Bah... just gimme basic systems and surfaces, 10-20 diffrent era planes, real worldwide scenery and im sold :P

Python Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 FSX is broken. I know: I have messed with it for years with hundreds of dollars of add-ons. It also does not properly leverage multi cores nor the GPU resulting in hideous FPS. I agree! microsoft should be fixing FSX before they release another. That said i look forward to any new flight sims.... i just hope this one is a simulator and for pc only, IL-2 birds of prey sucked big time!! Atleast we have DCS and maybe even Aerosoft to fall back on if microsoft let us down? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
element1108 Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 (edited) Microsoft Flight sim is alive now simply because of the third party developers. Microsoft stopped doing anything with FSX a long time ago. I can't imagine MS Flight would be a very compelling console game. "Weeeeee look how high I am, look at my limited map, my difficult controls." I wouldn't worry about it being a console game, it will most likely be a PC game and yes...there's a good chance it may not be the sim for us "hardcores"...but that's microsoft's loss ;). Bottom line, there's no information in that teaser that we can draw any sort of conclusion on. I think that's a mistake when you launch a title like that...you should come to the table with a clear idea of what you're planning on doing without going into the details. Agreed the trailer allowed room for speculation in respect to whether this would in fact be a true simulation or a simplified flight experience. Time will tell. Ali Fish Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 (edited) I fail to see where the speculation comes from that this has anything to do with any games console? i believe your all barking up the wrong tree! the name change simply comes from a re-invention of the IP at hand. maybe microsofts take on it is that "its as real as it gets" so they dont need the word simulator anymore ... now that is debatable i agree. The comments about Live and Xbox live simply talk of the furthered integration between the two with no emphasis upon Flight being anything to do with xbox live. Microsoft Flight™ is first and foremost a windows title. Edited August 19, 2010 by Ali Fish [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Ali your above statement is conjecture not fact. There is room for speculation until Microsoft Game's studio tells us definitively what they are doing with the IP. I mean for all we know this game could be a 360 arcade game ala Hawx that they simply port to the PC. I don't have a lot of faith in Microsoft Game's studio. coolts Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 (edited) Hmmm. After talking to a few devs at our place the consensus seems to be; · Aces studio hadn’t released a product in 4 years · Apart from the acceleration expansion pack · That’s a record that would get anyone fired unless they were growing bonsai trees So…….. Even if the first release is “inclusive”, the tech is there for hardcore sims. And firing one group, waiting a few months then hiring another group to work on a similar product WITH A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT NAME is common business practice to avoid constructive dismissal litigation. LawnDart Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Dropping the "simulator" -part of the name could also imply that it's geared more towards consoles (Xbox). The press release said it'll be aimed at both enthusiasts and novices, so they're definitley trying to get the masses to buy it and not just the rest of us... Stretch Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 And if it's a totally dumbed-down game, then what? Make no mistake: If Microsoft releases a neutered console-friendly version of Flight Simulator, the choice was NOT between that and a hyper-real study sim. The choice was between that and no sim at all. There's no need to be bitter because you wouldn't have gotten your dream sim anyway. Honestly, it's not a bad thing either. We should be welcoming games that swell our ranks, even if they're not hardcore enough for us. Some of these guys will eventually make the step up to DCS! sweinhart3 Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Sure would be cool if they integrated water graphics like that into a sim. The bi-plane certainly doesnt suggest an avionics intensive platform. Intel i7 990X, 6GB DDR3, Nvidia GTX 470 x2 SLI, Win 7 x64 http://picasaweb.google.com/sweinhart
