HungaroJET Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 (edited) maximum distance IRL Soon... ...but i have a question: ( principally from real pilots ) Who can tell what is the maximum distance where the runway/approach lights already visible from the sky in a clean/clear night ? (i guess ~50kms / 30miles)...or maybe more ? I think ideal conditions for catch the approach lights early/quickly: no humidity, no fog, no clouds - runway is not close to the sea/ocean no big city lights - no sorrounding lights around airport/airbase and of course early/far position on the extension of the glide slope (to catch the sequential flashing directional lights which is the most visible/brightest/conspicuous/garish point in the night IMHO) Edited January 31, 2013 by HungaroJET Atop the midnight tarmac, a metal beast awaits. HungaroJET Posted February 2, 2013 Author Posted February 2, 2013 (edited) Still a long way to go? Thanks Folks, yes i think i am only 30% done with new lights but the updated/edited old airport lights will be released around the next weekend two screenshots with upgraded old lights (unfinished light intensity by distance) ...and some previous images from the new process ("bubble" sizes, colours, and visible coefficient by distance are under testing/adjustment) Note: red and yellow ALSF-2 approach "bubbles" are two meters above concrete on some pics whilst centerline lights, red runway end and green treshold lights lay on the concrete. Later approach lights will get a slope and i will add sequenced approach flashers and treshold/runway edge flashers too. (old lights will be removed) I am also planning to make different ALSF-1/2 and MALS/MALSR Approach Lighting Systems.
