Hahaha... good ones!

hey, almost sure i didn't see as many private pools on Gmaps in Afghanistan.

Plus, IF the states was actual at war in their "sanctary", i'm almost sure it would be WWIII and every western country would take part, even Georgia ;)

Moreover, there would be SO MANY armors, that DCS engine couldn't sustain the framerate.

Conclusion :

Georgia : might be possible with their NATO program and engagements ( second country behind USA in men in afghanistan, i respect them)

Korea : might be not possible with nasty chineses around unless they play the Saddam's game and in this case it will be a 1 day war.

Japan : They gonna sort those islands out somehow so, strongly impossible

Nevada : IMpossible. Reasons : In the USA ; next Area 51 ; supplied by Las Vegas $$$ (1 Ford Carrier class every 30mn)

The only chance we have would be ED to implement a Nuke warhead in the Kh-65 cruise missile.

What-ever. Yanno, less than 30 minutes flight from Nellis is the Pacific Ocean. Last I recalled, the chances of a Russian or Chinese carrier in the Pacific is greater than the chances of a NATO carrier in the Black Sea. I'm just sayin.....

While I do prefer a realistic place for combat, I think we can make do with Nevada. I have no problems pretending it's somewhere else. I'm also fine with creating an alternate reality where the Cold War went hot (and all the F-15's/Su-27's shot down the ICBM's) or even going so far as to imagine that the US never managed to go through with manifest destiny and the west coast is part of world super power Mexico which is trying to take over the continent.

I'd prefer a realistic map, but just because Nevada in reality will only see Red Flag for the forseeable future doesn't mean it's useless in DCS.

Naaah, actually, i'm not against Nevada map, far from that.

It's a good place for testing things, and Defcon 2 exercises, but would never happens (never say never but still) anyway.

And, AFAIK, between USA and China / Russia there's Hawaï. And/Or Alaska&Canada. Might has some resistance before that :D

Assuming Greece/Turkey wouldn't mind letting a US carrier group cruise off shore. if not, there's still some Nato bases in EU ;)

Well, wait and see. keep up screen posting.

Apologies for going a little OT, but are you sure about that? As far as troops on the ground in AFG are concerned, here are the top ten contributing countries as of a few weeks ago:

USA: ca. 90000 soldiers

UK: 9500 soldiers

Germany: 4715 soldiers

Italy: 3956 soldiers

France: 3491 soldiers

Poland: 2472 soldiers

Romania: 1876 soldiers

Turkey: 1846 soldiers

Australia: 1550 soldiers

Spain: 1502 soldiers

All in all there are approximately 130,000 soldiers from 50 countries in AFG right now. As for Georgia, it has exactly.... (drumroll) 935 soldiers in Afghanistan, not even close to being second (or third or fourth or fifth...). Still an impressive number for such a rather poor country though. Romania is surprising as well IMHO, they are not exactly a financial powerhouse and yet they are right there in the top ten of contributing countries. Hats off to them!

That's the 64 ruble question. There's no clue as to how big "Nevada" will be in EDGE. If all they do is give us some Red Flag airspace, Nellis AFB and a pale imitation of Las Vegas buildings and terrain, I won't be terribly surprised. As time has passed, I've adjusted my expectations of ED. What I hope for is a map large enough to go from the US/Mexican border to the south, the Rockies to the East, Reno to the North and West to the offshore islands of California. Lots of terrain and interesting scenarios; certainly more varied than a tank war for eastern Europe. If/when more fast moving jets are available in DCS, a much larger playground will be needed. If they select an expansion of currently covered terrain, pilots will be over Moscow, etc.

Does EDGE or the current terrain engine support LOD for ground objects? Is it possible to for example have high LOD for buildings when driving a tank but low LOD when you're flying high?

Both support LOD. Not entirely sure if it allows separate LODs depending on your vehicle.

Of course it supports it..the current one does as well the closest LOD is just not modeled very well also bc the engine's performance isn't really convenient for more detailed LODs which again is one of the reasons why edge is coming.

Yes, but perhaps had it been left in the original 3rd Party hands, some version would have been out already.

There are plenty of people playing a modified version of the original Nevada map included with the A-10 beta just because they are tired of waiting for the EDGE project to be completed. Those folks just can't talk about it here.

Until proven otherwise, I'll assume the Nevada map and EDGE are just as real as "economic trickle-down theory." A great idea, but I've yet to see it happen.

Since the P51 release I'm dreaming of an western european map,

but one that wouldn't be set at a prescise period.

So in the mission editor you'd choose the date, say 1944, and it would load WWII era buildings, vehicles, etc.

If set to 2008 it would load modern stuff just like we have now with the caucasus map.

The topography itself would never change, just the objects.

How?

The reason that ED took over was because the original 3rd party could not deliver. You also seem to conveniently forget that what started out as a mere map addition to the existing engine is now a completely different terrain engine.

You are just going to have to be patient along with the rest of us. It's there and no, it's not just an idea and no, proof does not have to be furnished to you for it to be any more 'real' than it already is.

I believe that you are right in some points. The development takes a huge bunch of time and the official statements are confusing (the last one is long time ago already). I do not speak now of the development again from scratch, I am aware about this.

If I remember right so Nevada should have already been released in Summer, at least a beta version. I may be wrong informed about this, I dont know.

The last time we got some sneak peak screenies is a while ago again. Some information about the process this would be really nice :music_whistling:

I know about this and I accept this, as I noticed that ED has done a lot recently. I am just mentioning, that I´d like to know about whats going on, thats all.

I don't know why ED is so silent about features of EDGE!

All we know is that it will support DirectX 11.

Could they reveal more features to us (please)?

Will multitasking be supported?

For the same reason most software developers are restrictive with information on upcoming products: information is released as and when appropriate.

I can see some sort of schedule behind that. Seems ED try to keep some regularity in news and release. As they are giving us FC3 news and screens, i'm now quite sure we won't have any news about NEVADA until FC3 is released.

Can understand the move - but as the others - would really appreciate at least a "here are a few screens to show you it's still planned".

Pardon me.

I am just a paying customer with no inside pull with either the English-speaking controllers of this forum or the Russian coders allegedly working on this project.

In contrast, some present themselves here as an official, paid/compensated-in-some-way spokesperson and tester for a commercial entity.

Who exactly is "us?"

I didn't doubt the existence of ongoing work on Nevada terrain, until now.

How about some recent screenshots, versus the ones from months ago?

ED must either be so sick of all this that they are desperately trying to release it because they want it over with, or so sick of it they just don't want to work on it much anymore.

I can understand both sides.

On the one hand, things have been busy for them. They even had to put EDGE on a hiatus because they had so much on their plates. The community have been demanding new content in several different areas for a long time.

On the other hand, it is true that the Nevada Map in one way or another, has been known and expected for over a year...

I agree that I would also like even some new screen shots if for no other reason that just curiosity. I have asked for them myself a year ago, even. But at this point, there really is nothing more to do than just wait. I have been mostly been using the "pretend it doesn't exist and when it finally comes out, it will seem like much less time."
