26 GB. I'm gonna need a bigger SSD.

Oh crap you are right, but it is certainly a price I'm willing to pay : )

I do feel for you guys with slow internet due to location. We have fibre in our street now so I've upgraded to 100MB/50MB with a 300GB data cap each month but the pipe out of NZ is so limited it's like 10MB down.

Can't wait, that was a nice update Wags, thanks : )

But Skull, can't you just go to someone else's place/work and download it there?

Of all the things one could complain about; filesize is really a non-issue these days.

I sympathize for those with "slow" connections; but considering that most of us are on at least 10mbit lines (and a significant chunk of those in Europe anywhere from 24-200), and 1TB HDD's are cheap as dirt; well..

nevada is looking great. I am however a bit disappointed in the size. compared to the current georgia map it is considerable smaller.

that isnt much of a problem with the mud movers and choppers. however, fighters might be a problem the distances are rather short and its gonna pose a problem for mission makes specially in multiplayer.

Assuming the printable tactical map for the caucus region is accurate and the distance legend is correctly scaled, this is approximately 300x300km slice of the existing DCS World Caucaus map as sized from the south-eastern most corner.

Edit:

Corrected and larger map is five posts below. Look at that one instead, more accurate for size and also includes airfields labeled clearly for a sense of scale.

I think that's a ton of flyable space and don't think it will effect fast movers much, to be honest.

Oh but it will, just flying the Hawk makes the current Georgia map seem small.

Also, if they continue to expand it I'm sure it will be no problem to eventually grow it as big if not bigger than the current theatre.

That is my hope, continue to add around, eventually get over to Edwards AFB, Cali and Tonopah, NV, and eventually into Arizona and Davis Monthan and Luke AFB....and so on.

We're pretty close to release. I'm not going to work anymore after :).

@Skull

Faut se renseigner, mais si t'es bien a Salon de Provence, la fibre est déjà déployée par Orange et tiers.

I've never had an issue with the size of the Georgia map in an F-15 going full burn. Still takes a while to get from Batumi to Nalchik.

Also, here is a more accurate representation with well labeled airfields on the map for a sense of scale:

Thats a big question for me as well... I understand adding detail to lower detailed areas on the map, but will you be able to expand a map after release... And if its not possible to add on to the area covered in a map, would it be better to do it now, and have a ton of un-detailed area that can be populated later...

Well, from the WWII videos they said you can make different parts of a map and just add them together. They were talking from the perspective of taking a map, splitting it into quadrants then stitching the pieces together with no problem in the editor, but I don't see why it wouldn't be applicable to taking larger maps and doing the same (IE taking this Nevada and then making the Grand Canyon terrain or wherever else they wanted to expand to at a later date then stitching it into the initial release).

And like Wags said in his EDGE Update, maps are only limited by dev time/detail (and I'd assume storage space).

Hey SkateZilla are you CRAZY ????

I don't know if you know what you talk because FSX have not 26 GB !!

FSX + Acceleration: DVD.

My addons: 375 addons (A2A, ORBX, Aerosoft, etc), TOTAL: 115 GB !!

In fact for information it's 2 DVD + many thousand addons, if I take my biggest addon it's not 26 GB.

MY FSX world is many thousand addons and OF COURSE many years for bought, download and installed my addons.

Never I have download one file with this BIG size: 26 GB...

I think that you MUST understand: Where I live in France I have a poor connection internet.

SkateZilla you live at Virginia Beach and maybe you have the chance to have a very good connection but at my home it's not the case, so talk that you know because you don't live in my town...

Skull.

PS: My FSX world:

Lets just say I got A LOT of Miles on my Amex.

Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2),

90% of my FSX Addons are Digital too, meaning no Physical Media, Meaning download.

DCS is like 14GB (havent checked recently), plus another 26GB for Nevada, (which is not required).

And you say your going back to FSX Cuz it's not as Large?, It's 115 GB on your drive.. I dont think that's smaller.

You don't know read?

Calm down please.

In any case, in this day and age you should really be mad at your ISP, not ED. It doesn't seem like you live particularly off the grid.

26GB!!!!!......................WE NEED A BIGGER BOAT!!!!!!!:D

This is the size prior to going into DCS. When it does get integrated, it should be reduced to a degree, but until the integration happens, we don't know how much it will be. 26 GB is an absolute worse case scenario.

To be fair, it is not really that much smaller:

(red square is 300 km x 300 km)

Together with Wags "promise" that it will be extended in the future, I am quite happy with it atm.

You guys want a sense of scale for DCS Nevada? I got bored and whipped this up this afternoon. Enjoy.

Personally I fly out of McCarran and Nellis in P3D so this is my virtual home stomping grounds for flight simming.

Plenty restricted areas up there...fine...just really fine :D

Anyway, would be fantastic to expand the map a "bit" to east: the area of Grand Canyon would be great to see

Atop the midnight tarmac,

a metal beast awaits.

To be flown below the radar,

to bring the enemy his fate.

Yep, I like to fly the Grand Canyon a lot. Maybe I'll target that as a map I learn the SDK on. Do that 300x300km with a few other people.

Yeah, that map will cover from the whole Grand Canyon N.P. across Zion, Bryce Canyon, Glen Canyon N.R.A. to Monument Valley: beautiful and magical places

Matter of opinion, to me in a fast mover it's small. We're allowed to disagree :D.

Indeed.

I still think the current theatre is too damn small in the A-10C, let alone a fighter. But others do and can think differently, it's allowed people.

I have to Admit, I've never run out of fuel in a A-10C, even without Drop Tanks.

I wasn't trying to start an opinion war on map size, I was just stating my own opinion. I'm just excited to have a new map in a brand new engine, so I'm certainly not going to start nitpicking the size of the world, especially when (again, in my opinion), it's adequately sized (edit: and can possibly grow significantly in the future). =)

I mean, it always could have been the size of a Battlefield map. ;)
