Black Shark 2 Released

I understand that this may have been asked before, but this is a very long, and fast growing thread. I know that BS2 has a new campaign. However, does it include the original BS campaigns at all? I'm figuring out the budget for this (and possibly another SSD to put it on) I dip in and out of flight sims a lot, and would love to do the GOW campaign in this new version (assuming I can afford it) after I complete the deployment campaign I'm already playing.

 

Yep both original campaigns are included and updated for playability. And the Wingman AI is actually useful now ;)

Dependant on your download speed, is it not an option just to download the 2GB English BS1 install package and utilise that to jump-start the BS2 install. Will this even work?

 

Agree - not ideal but worth a shot if you're in a big hurry.

AI got a real and positive boost in BS2 hehe, No more wingman wondering off on his own refusing to follow instructions, its so much better. BTW your wingman will attack buildings, which if im right is a new one. Even the A10c wingman wont attack buildings but the KA50 does.

Well that certainly sways me towards the "buy it" camp. I'd rep Nate and KillaAlf, but apparently I need to spread the love first.

 

I've got to say I can really see both of the main points of view on this, probably because I'm somewhere in the middle. (Like a ferry between Dover and Calais:))

Burned up another install

 

FYI everyone,

So I renamed my BS v1.02 folder to KA-50v1.02ModMan and reinstalled v1 so I could install BS2.

 

The Good: BS2 found the BS1 install and everything went smooth as silk.

 

The Bad: Although the BS1 v1 reinstall found my serial number, it STILL deduced one more install. Down to four now. Every reinstall has ALWAYS cost me one.

 

The Ugly: Not much. BS2 is clearly on the Warthog standard now. Wow on the graphics. Wow on the framerate hit with everything on high.

Again, it´s version 1.00 not patched but activated. It is not installed in proper C drive as I always install my Games on a partitioned drive, outside of C. But this can actually not be the problem since I was able to install all the updates, whether they were from Lock on DCS BS1 or DCS A-10.

 

I only can not install BS2 for some reason...but there must be a solution on this, no one got an idea?

It does not work that way. You either buy the upgrade, or the whole package. This is not a DCS A-10 patch where you can do it either way.

I purchased the upgrade, not the whole package.

I reinstall BS1 now and apply for the given default path on drive C. I gonna try whether this is working then.

I wish real life was so banal that I could take to slamming the company of whome I get some valued entertainment for charging $20 for what appears to be a pretty beefy upgrade. We saw the same complaints and were charged for fc2.0 why not apply the same logic. Each module contains vast improvements over the last so it's much more than a "patch." arma ii series had paid additions and with that you get mp compatibility. There has never been a sim produced to dcs level and been online compatible. Is MW2 compatible with MW3? Will arma 3 be compatible with arma 2. No.

 

ED's business model isn't their bible, nothing is conclusive in the wording and if you haven't been around for the last 4 years you'd know lots has changed since then. As if the 9 month argument came up yet again...ridiculous.

 

I'm sorry but games are entertainment, are we so petty we have to argue and debate every bloody thing ED chooses to do?

 

Either go with it or don't, it's their asses on the line, not yours. I would also like to point out sim enthusiasts should enjoy what they have now, nothing is guaranteed in the future. (fighter ops, jet thunder, seven g etc.) Ed are producing results, the rest are fluff.

Other than helping ED out, that's one of the reasons I bought the full version even though I already had both retail and steam versions of BS1.

 

To reinstall the game I wanted one product and one install, not a series of multi-gig installs for one game, it's patch and it's upgrade. :) Definitely worth the extra $20 to not have to deal with any of that.

OK this is a big point that people are missing! The compatibility that Ka-50 and A-10 customers paid for and was promised is coming soon, for free. The important thing to see is now there are two DCS platforms. There is the DCS 1.0 platform where BS 1.02 and A-10C can fly together. Then there is DCS 2.0 platform where BS 2.0 and A-10C can fly together. The upgrade payment is just to fly in the "Hog World" (2.0) version of DCS. If you're happy with both pilots in the "Shark World" (1.0) then you are still there. Is this right?

 

We never paid for Ka-50 + A-10. We paid for Ka-50 and we paid for A-10. We were told that ED hoped to be able to get the two to play together, but nothing was promised. We never paid for compatibility guaranteed in any way.

 

There is DCS: Black Shark 1.02 which can play with FC2.

Then there is DCS: Black Shark 2 and DCS: A-10C which can play together. Black Shark 1.02 cannot fly with A-10C.

 

The $20 upgrade for Black Shark 1.0 is so much more than just the ability to fly together, you should read more about what's included in the upgrades, Black Shark 2 is a completely different game now compared to what Black Shark 1 was.

 

If you want to fly alongside DCS A-10C, get the upgrade. If you want to fly Black Shark at the A-10C level of quality, graphics, features and technology get the upgrade. If you want to keep flying with FC2, you don't have to get anything. If you want to fly with FC2 and A-10C, get the upgrade (you'll end up with two installs, BS and BS2).

However the statement "subject to change" does not fly. What was advertised was a DCS that was modular, not "maybe if we decide we don't need money when it comes to deliver." What if I as a customer decided that my payment was subject to change? How would ED feel if my $60 purchase of BS was subject to change down to $40. Where would ED's sense of fairness and understanding to how reality changes if I said my half of the deal was subject to change?

ED isn't contractually obligated to sell games to people at a fixed price. At one point, it was said that it was "hoped" that they'd be able to make the two compatible within a reasonable timeframe. That doesn't equal a contract. Things happen. That analogy doesn't make any sense. They're the ones doing the work, they are entitled to set their pricing depending on the amount of work that was done.

 

It never ceases to amaze me the intellectual leaps people will take to justify why they feel they're entitled to something for free.

OK guys I am running out of ideas.

 

I can not install the update. I tried everythings now and I dont know whyt the hell this shi***** thing is holding the update away from beeing installed.

 

This is my PC setup:

 

- Windows7 64Bit Home Premium

- non Admin account

- 8GB DDRIII RAM

- GTX560 GFX Card

- AMD Phenom II X6 1055T CPU

 

 

What have I done until this point?

 

- I purchased and downloaded the upgrade version

- I installed BS totally fresh (V. 1.00) on a non default path and activtaed it.

- I uninstalled BS1 again and reinstalled it on the default path

- I changed the account to the Admin acoount and tried installation from there

- I checked for the regestry key, it is existing in the respective path

 

 

what the hell can I esle do? Am I the only one with this problem? I cannot see what I am doing wrong, so a little more support from the testers would totally be apreciated.

Did anyone make such a big stink when Far Cry owners had to pay for Far Cry 2? This is a version 2 product released on a new platform.

 

If ED stuck to the "Modular" plan where all new aircraft plugged into the same platform, we wouldn't have any improvements! You would have an A-10 simulator that looked like Black Shark 1.0x instead of being able to buy a Black Shark upgrade that exceeds the A-10 sim we have now.

 

Technology always moves forward and everyone wants the improvements. But they don't come for free.

 

Seriously, I'd like to call Panasonic and try to convince them to exchange my 720p television because they came out with a 1080p model. I can already hear the howls of laughter! :D

A last-ditch attempt might be to delete everything relating to BS from your PC in it's entirety, manually delete all leftover folders, clear the registry of the Kamov entry, reboot and try again. You will sacrifice an activation, but might work.

 

I also recall a post by a member stating that he installed the 1.0.1c patch and that sorted the issue out for him.........worth a try at least?

From that point I´ve got to mention that I installed BS totay again first time after I reinstalled windows 2 times within the last year. So there was nothings...absolutley nothings left according to BS left on my PC.

 

I nontheless always get this stupid and annoying mesaage that I do need to install Black Shark.

 

I now installed 1.01 (some said that it helps there)...doenst help for me

I install 1.02 now, go ingame, leave game again and uninstall 1.02 again...someone said that helped him...will see whether this helps me

 

this is for sure, the instaler sucks!!!

Is it so hard to understand that some of us 'the whinners' are NOT TALKING ABOUT MONEY! It's not the 20 bucks that makes me upset, but lack of any information about BS2 on English side of the forums (including deleted threads and posts of those who wanted to clarify google-transladed Russian posts from a month ago!), further splitting of community (FC2 + BS1 and A-10C + BS2), 'everything is subject to change' excuse. Come on ED, how long ago decision of payware patch, upgrade call it as you like was made? Yesterday?
