The time spent on this would have been much better spent on an F-18, F-35, F-22, F-16, F-14 or AV-8B Harrier II.

Wrong.

DCS need to stick to MODERN air combat and not try to be something it's not.

DCS is a lot more than just a modern air combat sim.

Who is the "SHE" so many people refer too? Having been a mechanic at one time, its actually embarrassing when people refer to a machine as having a gender or even go as far as giving a goofy name. It's a machine, plane and simple, there is nothing mystic going on here.

Anyways, I don't really understand what they were thinking with the P-51. Its completely out of place. DCS does MODERN air combat and should stick to that as that's what it was designed for.

The time spent on this would have been much better spent on an F-18, F-35, F-22, F-16, F-14 or AV-8B Harrier II. I see this as a complete waste of time. It seems more like someone was experimenting and the company decided to make a quick buck off it rather then have some integrity and quality control.

We have sims that do WW2 air combat and while more are welcome, DSC doesn't and shouldn't go this route. What your going to end up with is another half-baked project.

DCS need to stick to MODERN air combat and not try to be something it's not. Update your graphics engine, make some more modern content, and just keep nickel and diming us with having to pay for updates to Black Shark like your good at but for Pete sake man, leave the WW2 alone, if not forever, at least until you get some essential jets that are still missing from this sim.

 all the info to counter most of this argument is in the announcement. It's funny how you as with such certainty what Ed should and shouldn't do without knowing 0.0000001% of any info to make such a claim.

But really a P51 vs an SA11

Assuming whoever put the mission or campaign you're flying together isn't an idiot :-) you won't be trying to dodge an SA-11 in A P-51D.

But it is quite capable of evading an IGLA, can carry rockets & bombs was used for CAS & ground attack in the Korean war & WIKI says for COIN work until the 70's (Phillipines ?)

There are plenty of units in the DCS.world that with a little bit of imagination could be used to create reasonable credible missions portraying low level conflicts.

& it is challenging & fun to fly. People are going to have a lot of fun learing the basics...

Cheers.

A machine is called a "she" by the true gear heads and people that honestly love working on, flying, driving, riding, and just looking at those machines. You can't tell me that you have never had any form of sentimental connection to anything made of metal. When something does mean more to you than just a pile of steel and aluminum, it's human nature to personify those parts.

Edit: Anyways, super pumped for Mustang. I can't wait to have a true warbird simulator. Even though it has already been said that there will be missions and campaigns, even if there weren't I would enjoy just flying around.

Mustang Sally!

I will take anything DCS puts out, because it's straight up the best product out there! Thanks guys for remaining creative and innovative. I've had so many great hours of fun and immersion flying Flaming cliffs, Black Shark and DCS A-10C Warthog. Can't wait to fly the Mustang in all of it's glorious detail!!!

Thanks for all your awesome work

U-Da Best!

I am a big fan of these old prop powered beasts and I spend alot of time flying the accusim P-47 and Spitfire Mk1 in FSX. My favorite aspect of those two particular sims are the engine modelling aspects, such as the turbo superchargers, fuel management and cooling. They offer a different level of challenge that can be alot of fun to learn. Those old fighter jocks didnt just yank and bank around the sky.

I hope the DCS P-51 takes this fidelity to an even higher level.

Not complaining, day dreaming. P-51's against modern aircraft isn't practical. That means DCS will have to do a lot of AI WWII aircraft or more DCS WWII aircraft. :-)

And WWII theatres. :music_whistling:

Personally, I am disappointed the next aircraft is not a fast mover like the viper or bug.

Many tastes for many folks so the P51 won't disappoint those who enjoy the old girls, but this one is not for me.

Still, nice looking model ED.

Sorry Bone, but I need to steal a quote. Why is it so many people are disappointed? The next DCS:Modern will be one of those jets. The Mustang and all it's glory is being built by a completely separate team of designers... So people, stop getting you panties in a knot, and let them them get wet over all the cool things we'll be getting this year.

Sorry, i have to say that.

Another brilliant marketing move from ED after selling Ka-50 one more time to the same people.

You hamburger boys want 100% realistic P-51? Wait for A2A release.

If ED put as much work as A2A in P-51 to make every system 100% accurate and working, then i don't believe we will see decent, 100% accurate DCS jet within next few years.

If we will see it, then i'm concerned about it's quality.

At least they could make me262 or 109 or P-80, or any other interesting combat aircraft instead of another US Pony Plane

I'm going to elaborate on EtherealN's point.

DCS has put the FLIGHT into Combat Flight simulation. This is huge: You can simulate flying a plane the way it flies.

DCS is not the only one.

ROF, Falcon BMS, have the same quality of FM, and may more:)

hmmmm... the mustang is most likely faster than the A-10. But even though Im not into WWII stuff, Ill still buy it to support ED.

Im wondering if this means there will be no F-18

I was in your Duxford workshop last week as a visitor and was wondering about the next DCS module.... If memory serves this is the Mustang with British Rolls Royce engine powering it, a good choice from WWII I'd say.

Will the ED team be modelling WWII targets and terrain then? I assume bomber escort missions over Europe are going to be high on the list.

Am I the only one distinctly underwhelmed by this announcement? Yeah, great WW2 fighter but theres a miriad of WW2 sims out there.

me too, although i will buy it i am disappointed.

i would be happier to know all their human resources are fully concentrating on finishing nevada and upcoming modern aircraft module.

hmm i find this interesting yet a little down.. i'd prefer a Korean war era...I think there's enough..WW2 sims like IL2 with every plane you can think of and cliffs of Dover.

I honestly think the WW2 thing has been so over played during ohh i dunno what 10+ years of flight simulators? I love ROF because its WW1,not many games cover that.

I just like the idea of more modern type planes.but hey that's just my opinion.
