The next 3rd party fixed wing projects announced, still no helicopter though.:(

Is it because of they are all two seaters (minimum)? Or does no one is interested to do a DCS helicopter?

Oh yes... thumbs up for the Little Bird

God knows how many things I killed in Gunship 2000 with this ultra-agile baby wearing nothing but FFARs and a 7.62 machinegun...

I'm all for the Hind, to be honest. I really miss playing the old Microprose-made Hind-sim, and it's also my ride of choice in ARMA2 (even though one cannot by any stretch of the word call ARMA2 a helicopter-sim).

well the longbow would be awesome but the radar thing would make it unlikely imho. same goes for mi-28N. but a ah-64d and a mi 28 w/o radar.. about cargo helis, i'm not much into them; taking out weapons and sensors makes dcs a little more than fsx, sure you'll have infiltration/ extraction missions and all, but how much would the fun last?

When Combined Arms gets around, it might be fun, depending on how it's done.

AH-64D Longbow:

- With switchable positions during flight so KI is taking over the other part if wanted.

- Multiplayer support for playing both positions online would be great...

yeah, that's my thought aswell. but since time and resources are limited (lets say that a dcs ac takes about one year to fully develop) i would prefer to have a new multi-role ac like the hornet or maybe an interdictor like the fencer or tornado, or havocs and apaches.. i mean the list is long and if mission variety is one important factor in keeping "the fun" alive, mho would be that transport fixed/rotaries should place towards the end of that list..with all due respect to cargo flyers

Hi All

This is my first ever forum post, hope I have not breached any rules ?

Have noticed that no one has requested any helicopters regarding the DCS aircraft wish list, so I thought I may suggest the British Lynx (the need for speed) ?:joystick:

BROTHER i already requested US chinook heli to be added in the DCS family.

Given that AFM isn`t available at the moment for 3rd party the next helicopter will not happen soon. To bad for us helo heads...

Do transport helis make sense? Currently we can`t haul anything, no troops nor stuff.

Why would there be a problem putting the AH-64D with a longbow radar into the game?

Some of the performance is known. It`s been modeled in Jane`s longbow series, EECH/EEAH, and it`s being worked on in the Combat Helo project (hopefully it pulls through and comes out).

I bet there are enough info out there to make it an enjoyable experience. Sure there are info and performance stats that never will be known. But since 99% of the general population out there don't even know it`s non secret stuff I don`t think it will be a deal breaker.

And I don't think a SFM vs AFM would stop anything like this. ED have said developers are free to come with their own FM, and ED would help them if it was of high enough quality to implement it. Also, having a SFM doesn't stop anyone from making a FM for a chopper, it simply reduces the available stats/parameters/forces/physics you can put into the FM that will affect your flight/handling/damage simulation/movement of the chopper/aircraft.

I would jump all over such a product within seconds if it was of such a fidelity it felt realistic.

As my username can let it guess, I'm a fully, deeply, 9000% Huey LOVER

That means , civilian or military, -B or -H variants, I'm fond of that chopper..

It's rotorhead, blades, cockpit, overall shape, sounds.. and history are just so... Loving.

I would give a lot to be able to fly one in the wonderful DCS Word.

This thread is now a year old, Now that P-51 is out, we can launch the polemic again, they release a plane, that should fight in a world full of SAM, Air Ground, Air-Air things.. with what ? six guns ? LOL

So I think the weapons side of things is becoming less and less a decisive argument.

A Bell UH-1 Huey, in the appropriate foggy, grey, wet map of Vietnam jungles, would just be so SO exciting, with a detailed world that latest DCS offers to us.. Imagin :

Start a mission ON YOUR FEET ( so you control the human ) in a forward base, by night, in the middle of a dense jungle. You go to the next barracks and your chiefs give you night's order mission : a team of 7 SOG Soldiers are lost in the deep jungle, near Cambodian border, you have to pick them out ASAP, as patrols on Cambodge is absolutely ( officialy at least ) prohibited, then take them to Da Nang airport cause they're about to finish their Tour Of Duty and should prepare to get back home.. during the flight, all can happen, stay tuned on the radio, the war is still advancing, and all can happen.. ( meaning here you would eventually be called to land on a kind of FARP, ground guys loading rocket pods on your airframe sides ) and we tell you you have fight against a VC attack near Khe Sanh, as soon as 7 guys are delivered. All mission editor, trigger etc offer many possibilities.

I'm sorry guys but that sound really exciting plot, you'll need to work like a real pilot, plan your navigation " by the book " on map before, calculating wind drift, fill your navlog, estimate differents headings according to airways ( at least, routes that are known to be " sure " ).. then climb into your venerable UH-1 H, start checklist ( a full check would take 7-10 min ) calculating fuel you should take to fullfil the mission without being too heavy, while taking into account the possibility of a route change. Then finally start turbine, and slowly hear that so known sound of those mighty blades..

That's true us, simmer pilots used to fully automatic or powerful stuf like A-10, Su-25.. even if not latest technology, it's still relatively easy to handle them, the principal fun is by operating weapon.. here it would be have a real workload of navigation and flight management. For example, best submarine sims, Silent Hunter series ,also focus a lot on crew managing, navigation, weather change etc... not only firing a bunch of torpedoes to sink everythink.

Some of you may thinks it's rubbish, compared to " LOAD OF DEATH " the A-10 can offer.. but personally, destroying things over and over in the Black Shark kinda boring me a la longue. As you said, Digital COMBAT Simulation means things related to war, not only killing. A battle without logistic support is lost even before starting. The Huey could pickup an artillery piece and bring it on the top of a Hill..

Let's just imagin a second, back in the mid 60's..

COMANCHE

OK bear with me a bit, but I can't believe no one has mentioned the Comanche... For all of the naysayers please hear me out... DESPITE the fact that the Comanche has been cancelled, there is nothing to say that a future revision... Call it the RAH-665 if you want to... Could be penned and brought to life. Since 3rd party devs are available now, this opens up the world to NON-ACTIVE duty equipment and who out there doesn't love the Comanche? The back story could be an ultra super secret limited production helicopter used for all manner of SEAD missions, anti-SAM missions, escort of VIPs etc.. Anything that requires a low observable helicopter. (Also, who knows if that project has been TRULY cancelled or if it is a black program in support of special forces.. Remember the stealth helicopter that crashed during the Bin Laden mission?) Anyway, there is a lot of verifiable information on this helicopter and since it would be a fictional beast anyway, the publisher could take some wild-assed guesses on systems and capabilities and who here would know any better? NONE of us have flown a real one so who would know? My only requirement is that the realism be on a par with Black Shark. Hell they could start with the black shark model for all I care, as long as they tweak it realistically and provide appropriate systems, capabilities and well thought out missions... Come on, who doesn't want to see the Comanche fly again?!

I thought the D model without the longbow was a C model?? Or did they just do away with it? Last I remembered, the D model was a longbow and the C model was everything but the radar. But the radar from 1 could do all the work for the others since they were connected via data modem.

No. there is a D and the D with the Longbow.

This guy, right here.

Ground attack? Check!

Troop transport? Check!

Air-to-air? Check! Well, of course, no helicopter is designed for it, but it is well suited for the role.

Bohemia Interactive DID release a module for Take On Helicopters for the Hind (D, P, V, and Superhind) and it is pretty good, but I just hate the ARMA engine with a passion. It is the least optimized and stable engine in existence. It's a real shame they named the game "Take On! Helicopters" though. If it had name that didn't completely suck, I bet it would have done pretty well.

Superhind for sure. The Zulu Cobra would be my 2nd option, and the 3rd would be the Eurocopter Tigre.

So NO ONE has any interest in the Comanche?

:joystick:

Well, it was cancelled, but maybe not in the Eagleverse. :smilewink:

Also, who loves Direct Action Penetration?
