Do I really need to have the DCS BS 1 to install version 1.2.0 for DCS BS 2? What's the point?

actually you can leave that installed as well I did and it doesn't hurt

anything.

Yes and No.

Yes if you purchased the BS2 Upgrade version.

No if you purchased the BS2 Full version.

What's the point?

BS2 Upgrade package was purchased at a reduced price when compared to the Full version. For due consideration to the reduced price, users are necessitated to have BS1 installed prior to installing BS2 Upgrade. Same principle applies to the 1.2.0. BS2 versions, hence the 2 seperate download choices, ie Full vs Upgrade.

If you own BS1 and bought the BS2 upgrade for BS1 owners then yes, you'll need BS1 activated in order to activate your BS2 (no matter whether it's BS2 1.1.1.1 standalone or BS2 1.2.0 for DCS World).

If you've already got BS2 1.1.1.1 activated, you should be good to go with BS2 1.2.0 for DCS World, it should not require you to activate it again unless you purposefully deactivated your BS2 installation. That means that you should be able to uninstall BS2 1.1.1.1 prior to installation of DCS: World and BS2 1.2.0 so long as you don't deactivate it.

If, however, you have a full BS2 license, you don't need BS1 at all.

Quite a few BS1 owners who bought the BS2 upgrade have requested that BS1 should not be required to be installed in order to activate BS2, but I'm not aware of any plans on ED's side to change this behavior, sorry.

And 5 is right out!

BS2 upgrade 1.2.0 help

OK - so I tried installing BS2 upgrade 1.2.0 to DCS World and it keeps asking me for a serial number. The original serial number from BS1 obviously doesn't work. I've triple checked and I know I downloaded the correct file (KA-50_bsupd1.2.0.63205). I had previously uninstalled everything as the installation instructions said. I know DCS World is OK because I also bought the P-51 module and it worked fine. So after the first failed attempt, I uninstalled everything again. I installed my BS1 and it worked OK, I then installed DCS World and it worked OK. I then installed the BS2 upgrade and it still asked for the serial number upon trying to play first mission. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

Also wanted to mention: The $ symbol is gone from the BS2 icon on DCS World as well but it still asks for the serial number

Those were the instructions I initially followed. Was there supposed to be a serial number provided with the purchase of BS2 upgrade 1.2.0?

All of the DCS products except world have serial numbers. If you purchased the product, then you should have received an email with the serial number. Also, if you go to the product download page and login, your serial number should show there as well.

Just purchased this (v1.2.0) and linked straight download. Firstly it only gave me the options for 1.1.1.1 so I moved out and back to download 1.2.0. It then froze (duff connection), so I had to close and open a new tab. Will this affect anything?

Just make sure when you navigated back to the 1.2.0 module download page that you are downloading the appropriate module. There are two of them. If you bought the upgrade, then you need to make sure you download the upgrade module. If you bought the full, then download the full version.

The only difference is if you bought the upgrade module, then you need to have the original BS1 installed on your machine prior to you installing the BS2 upgrade module.

Other than that, you should be fine. The 1.1.1.1 is the standalone version of the software that will no longer be updated by ED. Only the versions in DCS world will be updated in the future.

Ok, and what if I had BS1, then installed dcsWorld+BS2 upgrade: could I uninstall the old useless BS1 to save some HD space? This would affect how BS2 u.g. works in dcs World?

Once BS2 is installed and working, you can delete BS1. It will have no effect on BS2/World at all. The only value in leaving BS1 installed is in the case where a re-install of DCS World or the BS2 upgrade is needed. If you have removed it, then you will have to reinstall it again.

So if I recall correctly I bought BS1 and then BS2 upgrade. Do I have to buy Bs v1.2 now for it to work in DCS world or will my original BS2 work?

*Sorry if this was previously covered, I have not read the last 12 pages...*

Install BS1

DL the BS2 upgrade world module http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?scr=product&ProductId=13&end_pos=136&lang=en,

Start DCS World, and you are good to go. No need to buy anything else.

Ok so I checked and I see I bought BS2 and then BS2 upgrade.

When I try to install BS for DCS world version 1.2.0. I get an error saying I need to install BS1.

Do I just need to buy BS1 or am I doing something wrong with the install?

I followed step 2 of Wags instruction....

"Instructions

BS1 to BS2 upgrade license owners, please use

Install this first: DCS World 1.2.0 (common for all DCS products)

Next get: DCS: Black Shark 2 Upgrade 1.2.0 (English download version)

File: KA-50_bsupd_1.2.0.63205.exe

FULL BS2 license owners, please use

Install this first: DCS World 1.2.0 (common for all DCS products)

Next get: DCS: Black Shark 2 1.2.0 (English download version)

File: KA-50_1.2.0.63205.exe"

Thanks.

question is do you own the DCS BS1 full version? if so continue to the DCS BS2 upgrade.

Down load the DCS World BS2 upgrade you should be working but leave BS2 1 installed for the moment.

I do Not have BS1.

I have the full version of BS2 only which is functional on it's own but not in DCS world.

then you can down load the DCS World BS2 full version.

make sure you scroll down the list to the correct BS2 version. Make sure you click on the right download its at the end of the paragraph.

or bottom of the discription.

They are under the download section of moduls.
