-Mop- Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Will there be an OCULUS RIFT implementation? ...when the 3D-Goggles will be released within the next years... Please ED... just say "Yes" :pilotfly:!!!!
blkspade Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I'd like to see them change the HUD render depth so that all methods of stereoscopic 3D would be usable. http://104thphoenix.com/

SkateZilla Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I dont understand why Im seeing videos of 14-15 yr olds with DevKit units, what's the point?, they arent gonna develop anything for it, and they are gonna whine and complain when it goes retail with better specs than their dev units. Smh.. which is why I got my Dev Unit, played with it for a week, then shipped it to a buddy of mine so he can work on stuff for it (Since he didnt have the $$ for kickstarter) Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs

Burner_Tbird2 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 So, who all here has a rift? I got mine about a week ago. I've done successful aerobatic flights in DCS with the Rift using Oculus Overlay, Monitor.lua and OpenTrack. Resolution is too low, but we all know that. Its fun, but it makes me want the consumer version that much more.
cichlidfan Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Got mine a few days agp and the timing was just bad so I have not even had a chance to hook it up yet. Hopefully, this weekend. Burner_Tbird2 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Oh and an update for all the people talking about not being able to see the keyboard. VorpX drivers to be released shortly have a virtual keyboard that can be pulled up while in game. Hopefully they'll work with DCS but its a decent solution either way.

Flim Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Ya, we should have some drivers shortly! I have to say that Flying with the rift is more enjoyable than a monitor, even with the low resolution. Once useable drivers are released, I would like to get a MP flight together with all the rifters.
Mnemonic Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I have mine for quite a while now. Currently use it on weekends for an hour to check demos which pop up every second day. Didn't flew in DCS in mine, as I found all the existing methods to hook it up in DCS unsatisfactory. And I don't want to spend too much time hooking it up in DCS now, and then twitching for proper stereo setup, because of low rez, I know that I will not use it much for DCS. Actually waiting for VorpX driver, which should be out soon, hopefully it will be a good plug&play solution to try it in DCS and FSX. But I like the idea to get all the rifters in one online DCS flight.
cichlidfan Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 But I like the idea to get all the rifters in one online DCS flight. Yes, that would be cool. Burner_Tbird2 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Once useable drivers are released, I would like to get a MP flight together with all the rifters. Definitely! I can say from my last couple flights that formation flying in the Rift is incredible!

kam Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Why no reply from ED yet? Hopefully it is to do with the current immaturity of the Rift, rather than Eagle not being interested. I do hope so anyway... Foul Ole Ron Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 ED are a small company with limited resources. Before they pump some time into making DCS work correctly with the rift they'll want to see it being a commercial success first. I'm pretty sure they've got their hands full with the F-18C, FW190, Edge, etc. and until the rift takes off with a set that can properly display the world I think they're better off not devoting resources to developing support for it.
npole Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Implementing the rift, requires around 10 working hours from a single coder, you don't really have to "dump" anything. It gives to the game a major boost under how it is perceived outside of the hardcore simmers world (anything "touched" by the Rift is acquiring immediate interest from ppl that never heard about that such title before). And, finally, the dev kits have the purpose of offering the developers a device to test and implement this technology (nor that you have to wait t he 2014 when it will hits the mass; but the opposite: when the product goes retail you are already supporting it). To resume: there isn't a single downside to not implement the Rift today, nor a justification, that's why i'm asking the reason of why none (apparently) of the coders is looking into it. So i'm asking for the official reply from ED, rather that users speculations.
Flim Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Npole, I agree and you have a strong argument! I keep hearing how ED wants to grow and build new customers with the water-down versions of DCS models (War thunder types), but all they have to do is integrate the rift...
