    • 599$ did not faze you, and YOU PRE-ORDER IT!
    • 599$ puts me into bankrupcy - I will not spend that kind of money - WILL NOT BUY
    • on the fence, will BUY LATER (at retail launch)

Yes the wording was " Its reasonable for what you get." That does sound like backpedaling to me too. We will know for sure in two sleeps.

as long as it's less then $600 I'm happy...or shall I say my wife is happy

ps if my wife asks it cost $50 lol

I'm hoping it doesn't make the news and they say the price.

That would take a lot more explaining or lying :joystick:

Great. No sale for me otherwise.

However, most will wait to see what Vive has to offer this week to make an informed decision. Oculus is probably trying to lock in impulse buyers before Vive's big announcement at CES this week.

You're probably right. I'll end up buying both just to check it out. I can always sell the one I don't end up using.

I presume that includes all the backers who swore they wouldn't buy the rift after the takeover because Palmer had 'sold out' to Facebook. It'll be interesting to see how many of them turn down the offer of a free rift now:music_whistling:

Oculus have just beaten HTC in the PR battle at least.

Awesome for cockpits with switches.

True and agree, but would break the immersion too much for me, plus sad to say but I have muscle memory now with all my switches.

The Vive has made some definite improvements with ergonomics, the pass through camera, and chaperone system. Some initial reports are suggesting the Vive display has improved slightly, but the Rift's combination of optics, and display are a little better. I haven't read any reports yet that suggests the Vive display is better than the Rift, but I'm sure they will come out. It will be almost impossible to know which reports are unbias, so trying the different units ourselves would be the best option.

I won't require a pass through camera to use my Hotas system, or want VR inputs at this point in time, so I'm still leaning toward the Rift , "if in fact" the Rifts optics and display are slightly better. We should know all the facts on the Rift tomorrow, and it may even include a pass through camera. Unfortunately we probably won't know the final specs, and price of the Vive until their preorders open in February.

question for you guys........after pre ordering when do you think they will be in our laps ;)

So, today I dropped the suggested £1000 price tag on my wife for every thing I need for VR + PC, seemed pretty safe, no rage or eyebrows etc.

So tomorrow I shall tell her £3500, and sulk for a few days when it's completely out of the question.

Then I will act like a big boy and all sensible, I wont get one, but then a few after that, I will tell her the actual £1500 that I reckon I will most likely need, and hopefully she'll be like, "WOW, go for it!!!"

much win

@jamison - I'm guessing - and it's only my guess - that the CV1 will be ~575 USD and take up to 90 days to be shipped. We'll surely know much, much more tomorrow.

I plan to pony up for one tomorrow morning. I rearranged my schedule tomorrow to accommodate it :joystick: :pilotfly:

Since the Rift has been coming off the assembly lines for sometime, and Oculus suggested they like the IPhone preorder/delivery timeframe, its been assumed that the start of shipping will be between one and four weeks. Obviously, how far you are away from the distribution centers will also be a major actor.

It seems to me that people are overlooking the 3D sound that will come with the Rift. I think it will be a *big* part of VR. I don't see Vive talking much about it though.

Yes, you can click on the cockpits - assuming they support it. Not every aircraft has it, IIRC. And it's actually pretty easy. You look at the switch in question (yellow cross hair target) and click. Pretty intuitive.

450 US dollars is a good guess, but still a guess. I was thinking 399 to 450 myself. I also think the Rift will ship before the 16th of March.

We should have the true numbers, and dates tomorrow.

I agree, the Vive Pre doesn't appear to have any audio, but Vive suggested a few months ago that their consumer version will have it. Time will tell.

3D sound is a huge part of VR, and Oculus hired some the brightest sound technicians sometime ago. Personally I like the idea of integrated sound, that will make it easier for content software developers to know exactly how their games will sound, and adjust accordingly.
