A one to one conversion from Dollar to Euro i would have accepted.

But its not only a one to one conversion (which alone would be an insolence). Its a 100 € on top.

At the current exchange rate that alone is more than 750 USD! Plus shipping and taxes?

I'll definately wait for the VIVE, even if it costs 1000€.

Glad I never tried a VR yet and have no idea of the immersion that I miss.

Not forgetting that you won't be funding Facebook, if you buy the Vive.

you might be right  I have to admit £529 is a lot but it could be worse it could be £750 lol

Here in Holland including shipping it's €741.. that's close to $800.. It's even more expensive here.. Very disappointed that I didn't fund Kickstarter back in the days.. I was thinking about it then. But now? With this price? I'll wat for CV3 Value Edition or a cheap chinese copy..

I guess developers won't be as enthusiastic about implementing the Rift into games anymore either..

The difference in price was evident with the two dev kits as well. It was to cover import duties. Are people sure that taxes aren't included in the euro price?

could this be the laser pointer that Matt Wagner was looking to implement in DCS VR in order to allow someone using the Oculus rift HMD interact with cockpit switches and buttons?

Matt Wagner mentioned in stream, A "laser pointer" solution is being looked into..

They can shift their focus on other tasks if you ask me.. F-18, new maps etc... I doubt with these prices that using a Rift will become common this year. Might pick up later in 2017.

I bought one. Not very happy about the price though.

But what the hell. May as well check it out. Ended up being $900 Canadian because our dollar is so bad right now :(

They must of had a lot of preorders as the March bunch is already sold out, and the next batch will come in April.

I preordered one, but almost choked on the 900+ dollars Canadian. I thought the price would have curtailed orders, but certainly not as much as thought. Atleast I managed to make the first batch. I was thinking of buying the Vive aswell, but I also need a thousand dollar gpu, so I will cancel the Rift if Vive ends up having better specs for flight sims. Not holding my breath on that one.

Apparently next month Oculus will be bundling a Rift with a VR ready system, which might provide more saving for some.

The high Rift price, should help Vive. I still think the Vive will be more expensive, but their price should be far more competitive than I first thought.

Got mine for April. Took 32 minutes of constant clicking to get it! I also used 3 different types of payment and got pre-charged on all 3 because it kept saying something went wrong every time I tried to buy it. I assume those $1 pre-charges will drop off soon since the actual purchase never went through on two of them.

Whoever is responsible for their website needs to be IMMEDIATELY fired. It never ceases to amaze me how corporate IT staff never plan for load and allow websites to go offline like this when the company knows their product will be in high demand *cough* Apple...

You mean like the Obama-care website? where Saturday night lampooning was in fact, true (the joke is they thought it was a joke).

As for Oculus website, it's not like they can design for peak if they are hosting this traditionally. Meaning companies will go broke if they built up their infrastructure for a once every two year event. If they had hosted this with cloud-workflow, then they could have taken advantage of the elasticity and spun up 100 more servers just for the first day.

Finally, as for the price. Let the market decide. If 50% of people who were thinking of buying don't, they will have a huge surplus and it will go on sale. That's how the market works. My guess is, being the first kid (pre order before Vive announcement was pure marketing genius) on the block, they met their projections. But I'd be guessing just like everyone else.

My card company locked my card due to the amount of $1 charges as the page kept failing and I resubmit so many times. I never received an order confirmation email but did get a order number on screen. Emailed support. I hope I don't loose my place in the queue.

So I explore other options now.

Cheap DK2, replace MiPi Board and upgrade the screen.

Buy Rift CV cheap from ebay when ppl realize their PC or laptops can run it and just wanna make some money back.

or Use Samsung Gear VR and either sideload the APK file to run my note 4 as USB Monitor or build my own 4K screen with replacement screen plus HDMI MiPi Board.

$600 is stupendously high, even with games and Xbox One Controller.

But think of it this way. If you use your 3 monitors (or maybe it was four?) for sim'ing, you can sell two off them off and use Rift!

Honestly, I wish they had the "no controller, no games for $100 off" option.

I have no desire to sell my current surround setup. I Plan on using surround, 3D surround and the rift in conjunction with one another for the best of all worlds! :)

I will too, but it's mostly for work. I haven't played DCS with just the monitors in quite some time. I don't think I ever will, to be honest.
