I'm not really seeing much 3d, but I need to get the vid better lined up in the rift.

Let me know if you found some 3D somewhere :) It was just an idea based on the doubled view posted earlier here, I think the problem is that only the view angles became different but from the same viewpoint :noexpression:

If can figure out somehow how to make view shifting separately for the 2 screens... but it shouldn't be that easy, I'm not really into the working of the lua files to be honest.

For the Rift you shouldn't rotate cameras, picture will be totally wrong, instead you should translate them, but it is impossible with current lua configs in DCS.

Didn't yet checked videos in my Rift but will try to do so.

Nope. No 3D, this doesn't work properly. As said, you need both viewpoints to be slightly off-center, like the human eyes. Diverging the view angles is not the way to go.

You want it to be like this:

What you've basically linked in the vids instead are 2 eyes merged into one, emulating squinting to the outside. Not very good in the Rift. We need ED to let us configure the viewports per eye independently, that would solve all problems as we could even configure things like IPD ourselves. Then they would only need so allow us to use the barrel distortion shader on a per-viewport basis and we're good.

I'm sorely tempted to buy a dev kit... even though it will be potentially useless when the production version comes out, I just NEED it!

It's not that hard to watch the youtube dual image videos in 3d without the rift, it just requires you to let your eyes drift off to the point when the 2 images become 1.

Use the smallest resolution of the video and highest quality setting for best result. Increase resolution to find out if that is possible for you.

Come closer to the screen and place your hand in the anti chopstick position on your nose, to split the images for left- and right eye.

Then let the brain do the work and once in 3d you can move back.

I like this video because it has a nice depth perception

IT's hard to tell unless we can directly test it in DCS...

Now, I'm playing around with 2 inch 5x lenses and it seems that the image is much better.

I'm 3d printing different holders to get it just right.

Actually I'm not really exited about the 3D freature. Hard to adjust to, and probably also a frameratekiller, have to calculate 2 different monitor outputs, instead of just dublicating the same twice.

What really is getting me exited, is the ability to sit and look anywhere in the cockpit, without the annoying trackIR flaw that goes beserk when you reach a point where the camera cant see your hat too well.

That give me some trouble looking up and down. Hopefully OR will work much better in that respect.

I've been busy today working on lens holders for the 2 inch 5x lenses. The result is pretty good in my opinion, and I would rather use the 2 inchers instead of the A cups.

The 2 inch lenses help FOV and eye relief... Also, the screen image seems much improved ( my eyesight, about 20/30 )

Fixed the nose issue with a little foam... very nice!

Although there is nothing on this week official updates, there's rumors ED guys are working 24/7 on oculus rift development for DCS.

Here we can see one of their most gifted members fitting last rift dev model before one more coding session.

You don't have to have an output on both the rift and your monitor. You can have only the rift if you want. It isn't very pratical though since windows can't be switch to an Occulus mode.

We really need a way to fly DCS World with Oculus. I hope there will be a placeholder method to do this until we get a native support.

I very much believe VorpX will enable us to fly with the Rift without too much hassle with screen configs and the like...

I think we really need prober Oculus Rift support, I don't think that not being able see the keyboard as a problem,I don't use my keyboard at all, I have all the the keys mapped to my hotas with modifiers, and use voice recognition for the radio menus, it is doable.

Mods I use: KA-50 JTAC - Better Fire and Smoke - Unchain Rudder from trim KA50 - Sim FFB for G940 - Beczl Rocket Pods Updated!

Processor: Intel Q6600 @ 3.00GHz

GPU: GeForce MSI RTX 2060 6GB

Do they have any idea when consumer version might be ready? I feel I really need to try this out, I can imagine what it would feel like to have to turn your head fully to check your 6 :D

Somewhere in 2014. Can't be more accurate. If I had to guess I would say first quarter but we never know. I think their product is almost ready but they are waiting for sufficient game support before launch.

I'm looking forward to the release of Vorpx (http://www.vorpx.com/). It is likely that DCS will be compatible and even if it wouldn't be as good as a native support it should give us a good taste of it :D

Oculus won the best hardware at E3 over the new xbox and Ps4... um, that must say something!

To clarify - Machinima gave Oculus Rift "The best hardware", it is not like

And rightly so. I'm very much looking forward to the announcement of the second developer kit version (which I assume must come as the current DK is not feature-complete).

I wouldn't hold your breath for a second dev kit. With recent announcements and the recent infusion of capital into Oculus, signs point to all efforts being focused on a consumer version of the Rift sometime in 2014.

I would be inclined to agree. They still have many of the old units to ship and another prototype production run, and sales cycle, would be a waste of resources.

Of course venture capital is a nice thing to have when doing R&D, but if there would be no feature complete dev kit, how is a developer supposed to ensure his game is working perfectly with the consumer version of the Rift? If the devs would pay for them like they did with the previous kit, money wouldn't be an object.

I think that step will wait until they have a pre-production model of the consumer version and in that event the availability might be somewhat more limited.
