No problem with people pointing out flaws. In fact I encourage it. It is beneficial. If there is something very wrong and it is backed up with concrete evidence, fantastic, that is something I can use to improve the end result. Everything else is just background noise.

The F-15C is all I care, in fact, all I have ever flown in the original Lockon, FC, FC1.1, FC2 is the F-15C; never even touched any other aircraft. I am so going to buy FC3. Can't wait!

I have flown the "other" aircraft and the F-15C is the best. Despite it being assjacked.....its much more fun than the Su-27. The Mig-29 is much more fun than the 27. The Su-33 is a waste of an aircraft.

So back again flying low between hills, crashing when trying to fly downslope heights(bug ?), firing R-27's to "shoot'n run" away planes(I thought Su-27 has higher W/T ratio but F-15C has much climb ability that bugs me, damn aerodynamics)... bla bla bla like I love being a whiner, yessss.

Good point Tek, I forget to say about ER missiles are much faster then any AIMs, thats why Russians still dont have a serious need for active missiles. That means if SU 27 and F 15 shoot to each other at same time F 15 dies first in any case. In LO - NOT Not to mention crippled ET

Russians feel the need for better missiles hence RVV-AE SD and MD variants. They didnt have a better BVR missile untill now because budgets were cut after the breakup of the USSR. Thats all theres to it.

 

Fast missiles are important for air combat but ARH>missile speed. Not to mention there are many other variables like aircraft design regarding missile employment.

Why should an Su or MiG fly low to stand a chance against an F-15? This is something I've always had hard time to understand.

Notching (and it requires to be lower) is a part of the doctrine for SARH aircraft. Despite the introduction of AMRAAMs It is still teached to pilots here againts superior threats. It is a gamble, Shooting from a lower altitude gets you less range but you might just go unnoticed for long enough to get a shot off.

I'm not against notching which means firing/pressing on your opponent BEFORE going low. But frankly, starting the fight with an altitude/range handicap does not make any sense to me.

Notching is reduction of doppler effect by flying 90 degrees off a radar emittion source, and it only works if the attacker aircraft is looking down against you and ground clutter.

 

Notching=lawn mowers, yes its annoying but a valid tactic and it will still be seen in FC3 almost for sure.

We say the same thing, let me rephrase it:

I'm not against notching (which indeed means what you said). However, you still can notch a threat after firing/pressing on your opponent from an advantageous position (High and fast). No one forces you to stay low all the time regardless of the fighter you fly.

I see what you mean, however if your flying a flanker you cannever be in a notch while your SARH missiles guide onto an F15 armed with AMRAAM. Most likely he will see you and fire at the same time, then HE will dive first. (dont like to call notching to a dive)

 

 

What makes much more sense is to popup for a surprise shot after being undetected for long enough. This will never go away.

Well never say never, 27 is faster on a dive (heavier) and the ER's slight range advantage could allow to see, fire and dive first.

The only tricky thing is the unreliable radar HI mode as it drops lock quite easily. Switching to MED/ILV after firing might help especially if the target starts notching.

True, however we were discussing why flying low all the time would be the only way to go for Su's and MiG's in FC2.

I don't agree, I flew Su-27 a lot (stopped few months ago flying FC2 altogether) and you wouldn't see me fly low all the time, it depends on situation you are facing how you are going to fly, sometimes you fly low, sometimes you fly high, sometimes you do both... its not only low.

Cali is on point. If you cant see that then you don't read history. Now if you're complaining about the F-15 in FC:2 then you are right, its has no balls. But all the Flankerwhiners will not admit that if the F-15 was not neutered, their ass would be in a world of crap. Period, jock them all you want... the record speaks for itself. Again Period.....

The record means nothing in this context, if we had MiG-21's and 23's instead of Flankers then yes we could say so as the F-15 has butchered these aircraft without getting a scratch, Flankers have never faced F-15's in the big outdoors, ever.

The problem in FC is that the Su-27 is the S version with a dumbed down version of it's 20th century tech while the F-15C is using a dumbed down version 21st century tech. If FC had a modern 21st century Flanker then it would be a whole different ball game.
