What "A" will be doing vs 51D?

That's axactly what i'm thinking and what's relevant for me. A P51D counterpart opens up a new interest for buying both modules. I don't dislike the P-51D at the moment, but also don't share a certain enthausiasm about the aircraft. This is why i don't own the P51-D.

I'm not sure, but someone wrote somewhere it's gonna be the A8. Now, from the old and rusty IL-2, I mostly know it as a ground pounder, but performance seems to be close to the Mustang. I would prefer the Dora - my precious - but I think the P-51 would be at a disadvantage here. Whatever ED cooks, it's gonna have cannons, so the P-51 boy are gonna be in some serious trouble, if they don't watch their six. :)

I think Dora 9 would be the best choice to pair with P-51 i think both planes were equally matched at low to medium alts. But Anton is also not bad choice alhough at higher alts has low chance against P-51.

Dora is OK for high altitude, but the A8(9) is also a good match below 15000, and with a lot more extra lead to throw around... the Poni pilot would have to be very... very careful. megalol.gif

from the interview with Wags-Matt:

We're not trying to only be a modern day jet fighter combat simulator.

Obviously that's where our roots are and that's where we started, but eventually we want to grow this out to not just include the modern day stuff but include aircraft from world war two hence the Mustang.

We already have a Focke Wulf 190-D9 in development.

We have an F-86 in development, MiG-15, so, eventually we want to cover many different aircraft, many different eras.

We need a complete transcription, surely more info has "covered" into the FSBreak interview :book:

Personally I had hoped for an "A" version and thereby a nice big BMW radial engine.

But I will still adopt the "D" and love her just as much :pilotfly:

As a ground pounder I am intrigued as to what weapons we will be getting :) the D9 did have a centre bomb rack :)

FW-190? Not meaning to be a fun-bump...

But with the old Sturmovik 1946 and upcoming Rise-Of-Flight + 1C Company 2. WW simulation becoming avaiable at some point in the future I really don't know if I like this development. Either I play Rise of Flight for 1. WW planes... If I want 2. WW, I go for some Sturmovik, and if I'm in the mood for some modern era, there's DCS. DCS should stick and concentrate to what it's kind of meant for and good at?

The P51 feels out of place already, nowhere to be seen on servers... how would it able to, anyway? People argument that it's "cool" that ED leaves themselves the freedoms they want. That's OK. But to me it doesn't really feel like they are having a firm standpoint or line of operation.

Really don't know how the 2. WW is supposed to fit in. After all... why make Combined Arms.. if you are going to focus on a neverending mix of eras? Better concentrate on one era, and get that right.

Especially since we don't know how things are going to turn out with 3rd party modules. Plus I wouldn't care if ED + 3rd party would be pumping out a quality release every 6 months... but that's just not the case.. (yet)? Which means that we will end up with a Huey, a P51 AND a FW190 kind of not contributing to the "Combined Arms" direction whatsoever. Sounds chaotic and wierd to me..

The FW-190D9 that'll be made for DCS World will be of a significantly higher fidelity than other WWII combat sims on the market. There's lots of us who want to fly full fidelity WWII combat planes. It'll all make more sense once we get a critical mass of development going on and some 3rd party developers getting involved. But it'll be a 2-3 year project before it's properly realised I'd estimate. WWII is a big market and if ED can grab themselves a profitable slice then they should go for it. Also these things don't have to be an and / or situation. If ED can see that there's decent money to made with high fidelity WWII sims they'll hire people to churn them out.

The Il-2 series is nowhere near the level of detail that DCS is. Basically, Il-2 is the LOMAC of WWII, if that is what you want, fair enough, go for it, but don't forget that there's people out there who want a WWII sim that goes full on realism.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Come let's eat grandpa!

I am sure they will consider the different weapon types that were used on the Dora at the time much like they did with the P-51D :)

Looks like the Dora only carried 1 500lb bomb, so nothing too exciting there. The F variant added more ground pounding action I think.

Since I currently have decided that I have given more than enough money to 777 for a inferior quality project I don't fancy giving them anymore of it, BoS had potential but they have already said that the CEM will not be to the same level as CoD nevermind DCS so if you want a realistic CEM ww2 sim DCS are the only ones doing that.

I am just excited to see who is better, 190 AI or P-51 AI :)

Gentlemen, there is a question... I have no idea what tracer color ammo for MG151/20 and MG 131 had. We need proven facts about it to avoid usual hot discussion about it post factum... :)

Jane's has a book on ammunition, might be a place to look. Not sure how far back it goes or if its just for modern day weapons. All other none proven statements point to a pale green.

Think its simply called Jane's Ammunition Handbook.
