The point of stealth is to give you a force multiplier by reducing the effectiveness of opponent systems.

EWRs aren't exactly very plentiful, they are relatively easy to destroy if you can get close enough, and stealth planes have a much easier time of getting close enough than non-stealth planes ... you might not even care to target the EWRs depending on the opponent or scenario. You can put enough decoys and other fun stuff in the air that it really won't matter that they can maaaybe see you. As long as the stuff that shoots at you is relatively blind, you're good.

Ah okay. Thanks again. But something that bothers me about those claims is that the engineers couldn't have forgotten about those radio bands when designing the F-35. I mean, the whole point of stealth is to hide from radars isn't it?

Yup, he said in this sea of a thread somewhere that he would go to other sources to make up the difference...

Yep, not going to dig through this thread either but I remember him saying that as well, that being unsuccessful on the kickstarter won't end the project just means he has to get other funding. Even staying at the level it is, making up the difference would be easier than having to fund the entire $75,000.

Exactly. Long wavelength radars aren't exactly practical by any standards. They might pose a means to vector your own stealthy planes towards a stealthy opponent but probably not much more.

This is correct - if the $75K isn't raised, those of us who supported the initiative have our pledges cancelled. No money changes hands.

Ah I see, first time messing with Kickstarter so I didn't know the particulars. Well let's hope there is a financial backer in the background who agrees to fund the difference on KS before it runs out, as I don't see any other way it is making the $75,000 in time.

"UPDATE: Due to requests from supporters we have added two new pledge levels to kickstarter."

I wonder who requested these pledge levels if there are still zero pledges for anything above $500?

Wasn't as much digging as I originally thought, just had to find Kinney's account name in the thread then look at all his posts. Here are the two I recall seeing:

Hi Mike, I've been very good through the years of raising funds. If we don't get the Kickstarter then I will use all of my energy to secure funding through conventional means or through other revenue streams in my company. I went this route to involve as many of the end users as we could in the design process. Something I really believe in. I want all of us to fly and test then release it to the world. I thought this would be a new experience for most flight sim users - getting involved on the ground floor.

Thanks Mike - we'll get there my friend

and then this one later on:

Hi to all - just wanted to comment on the budget. We are adding R & D money from my company to make the F-35 goal. The Kickstarter funds get us to where we need to be and also allows me to bring into the project, in the early stages and for flight test, a dedicated group of Simulation Pilots. Great things can be done with enough people working together on a single goal!

It will be refunded to the supportes.

Not refunded, but it will not be drawn from the credit card.

Yep maybe.. But it still puts them $30,000 ahead of where they were 15 days ago doesn't it?

The more money that can be raised in KS means the more project control Kinney has over the project...

Hi Outlawal2, Sorry but you have seem to have got the wrong idea - we will not be topping up the kickstarter with extra money at the end, we will be looking at other options.

Just incase people missed it - as there still seems to be some confusion around this. Eagles statement was meaning that in terms of the total project funding, the completed $75K from kickstarter would be "topped up" i.e. added to, by KI funds to create the total funding for the project (which is a lot more than $75,000).

Even if the kickstarter is not successful (We never say never though, we are getting more supporters finding out about this project every day), we will be completing the project and getting it funded - if not by the community then by more traditional development means.

What can you guys do to help? At the moment you can help us by pledging (obviously), or if you already have, by spreading the word to friends and other flight sim communities that you are a member of, if they might also want to be part of this project. We have put some "DCS F-35 Test Pilot" avatar and signature images on our Facebook page that you can download and use if you like :)

If you are a member of a virtual squadron, don't forget our squadron package, which can get you 12 copies of the A, B, or C and 12 personalised aircraft including a custom squadron paint job.

You misunderstand. It says the completed 75000 would be topped off to fund the entire project, which naturally has a lot more financial volume. In case of the KS campaign not reaching their goal, they need to aquire 75000$ more to top off their entire project.
