Just to be clear, although I suspect the P-51 will be in the initial package, if it weren't would we be able to use our DCSW P51D or is it a complete re-vamp of the existing one? In fact that question applies to all DCSW aircraft.

It has been stated that it will be possible to insert any DCS module into DCS WWII.

I can't wait for the Kickstarter to begin...

...just so that I read people passionately arguing about something much more interesting than multiple installs. :)

I'm in the same boat as many others, though. I think the potential for this project is enormous and it's very likely to be the first Kickstarter I ever contribute to.

The grand vision for the DCS series keeps getting clearer and clearer. The idea that it could eventually evolve into an FSX-like base for a wide range if third party developers is very, very exciting.

I'm on board.

Best of looks with DCS WWII Luthier, its great to see you back, you have my support!

The armchair programmers, project managers, bean-counters and dogsbodies should take a step aside and let the professionals get on with their jobs. They have a good reason for their decisions and that's why they make them

That's exactly what I said above :)

What happens if we release, say, a G4M Betty for DCS WWII. You already bought the F6F but you have no interest in the Betty so you don't buy it. What happens when you go online with someone who owns the Betty? You gotta be able to do it, right? So you've gotta see that Betty, right, just not fly it? And the Betty owner, if he never bought that F6F, has to be able to see you dive on him out of the sun for just a split second before he explodes, right?

Now extrapolate that to modern jets. See where I'm going with this?

No, i don't think we do... What happens is what is already happening when you fly with someone on an aircraft you don't own, the guy flies it, you watch him, maybe go buy it yourself if you're interested. Does anything else happen?

This modular model is what makes DCS World great: everybody can fly what he fancies with his pals whether they own or not that module. We get what we want and can afford and still can fly in the same world.

Yes, but if you'll import DCS: WWII B-17 into DCS: World it won't be compatible with base DCS World online.

Actually, not at all.

Now extrapolate to Vietnam, Middle East, etc. How many similar installs will we have?

Regarding the interest level and your audience, do you have any idea how many people fly both DCS World (modern jets) and Rise of Flight?

More universal thinking here, if they get the AI gunner positions working for the B-17, that will translate well to other DCS modules like the Huey. I know ... get my head out of the present.:)

We? Are you part of RRG? And where are you keep explaining again and again? And who is asking for such explanations? And how do you know the difference in fidelity? From what?

Is this the reason to break from DCS World? Because many are tired of the east front?

I don't think so.

The question: "Why wouldn't we have the posibility to play a DCS World scenario (with tanks and other assets not just Ka50 and A10C) over "Normandy"? You know... a "cold war" scenario

Has the answer... because we are sick of eastern front?

Does anyone knows if Ka-50 ever flew over Nevada? Cause maybe another split is in order...

I think it would be just best to get the option. Let the WWII Simmers get their own World-lite version, and just let us old World people merge the two installations. I don't think it gets more simple than that. Other than the devs having to ensure compatibility for every module they release.

Is cool... I'm not looking for "flame" be sure mate, just having some talks or debates over some beers (I hope you have yours :D ).

But you sounded very sure of yourself and given the fact that even Luthier is "junior member" with no other tags attached yet I thought that there is a small chance you are part of his team.

Yes, maybe my post was a bit condescending towards the end... I wasn't trying to be mean or something.

Now that would be absolutely awesome. I would love to see the Pacific done again!

I would like to see it done again also, but IIRC one of the most anticipated planes, the Grumman TBF Avenger did not make it as a flyable because of legalities. I would love to see this plane make it one day. I know it's far off from development plans, but do you anticipate encountering those hurdles again? :music_whistling:

We dont know enough yet to say that.

Of course not. But it's logical.

If WWII units (including external models) are in separate DCS: WWII, but not in DCS: World then they won't be visible in multiplayer unless all players have B-17 installed. If WWII units are in DCS: World then what's the point of having separate installs?

Yep, I was also sold once I saw the communication level.

Hope it stays here for the entire development process, although he could take a brake now :D

I'm afraid I don't understand this thread side-tracking into a discussion about separating worlds or not.

DCS: WWII will have what it looks to be a Normandy-like map ... is that a map "jet jockeys" would be interested in

While I'm excited more than ever for the future of DCS, I had a think over night and I really don't like the idea of separate installs. I may be wrong but I thought the idea behind DCS: World was that it was essentially an operating system for all things DCS no matter the decade etc. Also, I'm not sure there are that many "jet jockeys" I think ED (And now their affiliates) are lucky that most of us will buy into anything they put out, I would imagine most jet fans own the P:51 and the Huey and vice verse most classic fans own the A:10c. I would imagine also that many fast mover fans purchased the P51 simply because it was in DCS: world, having a seperate module would see these kind of sales lost as people are unlikely to install a whole new "operating system" for something that isn't really their main interest.

I think you are simplifying matters anyway, there is no black and grey classic vs modern, aviation advanced so quickly during times of war especially that even the same decades are worlds apart, If WW2 is separate then how many more installs will we be needing? The Huey doesn't fit in with the A:10c, will that need its own? Will there have to be a Vietnam... a Falklands maybe? I think an easier option would be to just have it all under one roof as that is what DCS World was designed for after all. If needs be then gives us a switch within World that will allow us to switch between WW2 and modern etc changing the default maps and what not with it...

Exciting times indeed but the multiple install arguments are unlikely to go away anytime soon I think. Maybe a poll should be started to see how unpopular/popular it is. We may have a say yet... :music_whistling:

Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing the kickstarter campaign!!

Doesn't anybody see the irony?

When the Mustang was introduced, everybody and their neighbour was screaming bloody murder how in the world ED could dare to let WWII planes fly alongside jets.

Now people complain that just that could be taken away from them (which seems to be not the case, btw.). If this forum isn't "La cage aux folles", i don't know what is.

This is very exciting news! While my first concern was the separation into a different core, I have read/skimmed through most of the pages and the more I think about it I think it probably doesn't matter so much. They'll surely figure out what's best as they go.

The one thing I can't wait for is the Bf-109. Also hoping we'll see different versions of it (G-6/U4 ).
