That may be the case that nutation is less desirable for the real WSO's but I really don't feel like Jester runs the Elevation enough to make up for it, and as far as the provided keybinds go, he fights you on the two we've mentioned so far, the antenna angle and gain. I at one point was basically holding the gain increase keybind so that he could track a target over water intermittently, while he tried to adjust it back down.

Yeah I believe it works the same way as ships. So I think its "start from parking hot" or "cold", and then you will be able to choose the park number on the barge. Its a really cool addition in DCS. You might want to make the barges indestructible if you're in an area which is getting shelled though, because I think once it gets damaged too much the helicopter just falls through the floor. Its a really great addition, the first time I tried it there were seagulls flying around and it sort of makes you feel like you're on a pirate ship

Anyone else feel that the rudder is far too effective at low airspeeds? Even at the start of take-off it feel to me like it’s linked to non-existent nosewheel steering! However big a rudder might be, it is pretty ineffective until you’ve got at least a few knots of airspeed over it, even with all that prop slipstream. It also seems over-effective in the air in slow flight, especially with power off. Still, maybe I’m wrong, i’ve never flown a high-powered warbird. Just doesn’t quite feel right in my experience.

Thank you for the update. I hope all is good with everyone that supports and involved at IFE.

Random loss of bindings and trim settings
carbolicus replied to carbolicus's topic in Bugs and Problems
Hi GT FreeFlyer - Yes, before the recent FM update the 6 degrees right aileron trim was necessary - but now I find it isn’t, so has the flight model been dumbed down a bit? -
Maneuvering On The Ground With Differential Braking
OmasRachE replied to AG-51_Razor's topic in Bugs and Problems
I gave it another try yesterday, but its kind of useless. The module is unaplayable for me. But I understand that the devs have to deal with more than this. Thank you @-Rudel- for mentioning, that you are going to look into it after you have dealt with the WEP Issue. If I can support you with a track file, let me know. I will wait and hope it gets fixed soon. I love the module! -
The 1:1 profile isn’t right for a game like this where you need to look at your 6:00. I doubt anyone uses that in DCS. I can’t tell what that’s about. It seems like it’s about the HMD not displaying on the side screens in triple setups. I use a single screen and don’t experience this.

Been flying over Hatay, lots of enemy targets some are infantry units some are armored, tried all weapons but George took lots of time to fire and sometimes didn't fire at all, I was in range and high enough to give George the best chance to fire but he didn't and it happened with more that 5 enemy units.

investigating CTD after commanding George to engage FCR target
mdtenor22001 replied to mdtenor22001's topic in Bugs and Problems
Good news! No more CTD! Bad news: George can't "see" FCR targets despite me seeing that he's got the tads right on them. They show up as unknown and he refuses to lock and engage them. He also won't engage with guns after selecting multiple targets in an area search. Very much appreciate all the work being done on the module. Fingers crossed that the rest of the kinks get worked out with George! -

Thanks for that feedback. The way ED have implemented the radio effects, has had a massive impact on this campaign. Doesn't help with TFH, but i'll be doing things differently for my next AH-64 campaign. -

Jester is WIP and will of course be improved over time still. It is not intended for your as pilot to babysit him though. On a technical level, adding the possibility to micromanage him is as difficult as just teaching him to be a better WSO, so we prefer doing that instead. On the note of nutation/MAP mode, Jester is currently doing what the real WSOs did in the Phantom. Nutation and other modes did not work well on this old radar, they did not use it. Some excerpts: > Forget 2 bar nutating feedhorn - search in MAP-B 1 bar, which cuts beam down to 3.7 degrees or so. Then when you get a contact, you adjust the elevation to give the best hit. > RDR uses a nutating feed horn that gives a bigger radar beam but it's less strong. > We hated 2-bar. As a WSO I'm running the elevation all the time, and don't want it jumping down when I want to go up! > -34 recommends using MAP-B for search due to better target discrimination and less wear on the nutating feed horn. > The best radar setting for air to air contacts is MAP - B. That has a tight 1 bar non-nutating scan that is better at discriminating targets from clutter. From my experience with Jester, he is pretty good at managing the antenna elevation already. It is the gain, as you also pointed out, that needs improvement. But finding the right gain requires multiple attempts, waiting multiple radar sweeps each time. If Jester would do that constantly, his general search pattern would be way too long/slow to be useful. Instead, Jester needs an extra phase after "general search" where he will actively try to find a cover in a known area. In such a phase he could then also spend more time playing with the gain. But therefore, as first step Jester needs to learn more about possible target locations. That is, he for example needs to understand AWACs calls, RWR contacts, mission specific data etc so he knows by himself where targets are. On top, we will add a dynamic way for the player to point somewhere "find target here" (for example pointing on your radar screen or outside the canopy into the air). With that stuff added, Jester can then switch from a general non-informed scan (which he is doing currently) to a more active informed target-uncover phase in which he plays the gain up and down. Once that stuff is added, the experience should be a lot better. In the meantime you can theoretically bind a few switches from the WSO seat as pilot and try messing around with Jesters pit. Some things he will tolerate, others he will reset every now and then. But he probably wont understand whats happening and you could potentially confuse him a lot. Alternatively, turn him off, then obtain a lock yourself and then turn Jester on again - he was coded to understand this scenario and roll with the player-obtained-lock during his absence.

Thanks again and again Bandit648. But about the star light, I find that the stars wound be more shiny but more small. I don't know if it's due to your mod but the moon is very small, compare to reality and I can see an orange star on the south horizon at NTTR ( Mars perhaps) which have the same size than the moon.

mdtenor22001 started following F4 - Route planning tool and WSO - how to?
-
I am sure I'm doing something wrong, but I cannot find instructions on this anywhere: How do you get waypoints from the route planning tool into the WSO's kneeboard in multiplayer? When my pilot puts in coordinates, they show up in his kneeboard, but not mine (WSO). I get no waypoints. Likewise, when I use the route planning tool, I get nothing (and neither does my pilot, obviously, because he's already spawned). First off, is it possible to get waypoints into the WSO's kneeboard from the route planner? If so, how? We are following the same steps we've used for other modules, but can't seem to get it to work in the F4. Thanks in advance!

The Cold War ended almost 40 years ago. It's time DCS is updated with everything from the 21st century, at the very least SAMs, fighters and strike aircraft, AWACS, ect. The Vipers and Hornets are left with no 21st century environments where they belong.

For about the last two updates, we've noticed a significant decrease in unit movement smoothness in multiplayer missions hosted on a dedicated server. Device hotplugging is disabled on server and clients, as is replay recording, on server the high performance power profile is used. Nothing has been changed or added to the missions, yet all units jump and warp at relatively consistent intervals, about one second apart. Has anyone else noticed this lately?

In landing you pitch (trim) for speed, and use power for climb descent. With a spring centered joystick trim is hard to understand. You’re using the stick to hold the nose at your desired AoA (and so speed) in a real plane or with Force Feedback, you then trim until you don’t have to hold the stick where you put it. You’re moving the neutral point of the stick. With a spring centered joystick it becomes unintuitive, as you trim you’re bringing the stick back to its centering point to emulate trimming off forces. So the stick position changes as opposed to the stick staying where it is and force against keeping it there trims away.

Currently, I am a bit frustrated with Jester. He seems to default to the MAP mode in Search meaning that he's scanning without nutation. It seems almost impossible for him to find bandits with a couple thousand feet delta and I have found myself turning him off and taking over the controls for myself for A2A. He seems too conservative with the Gain too, especially over water. It would be nice if I could take over some of these functions and leave him to do the rest. As I cannot make use of the WSO radar boresight mode or change to narrow or the range setting without him.

Other sims are irrelevant around here. I want to have as many different vehicles from as many different eras as possible, as both playable modules and AI assets. I use the word vehicle because I want to see tanks, ships, anything else you can think of. There are limits to what we can get; however, that doesn't mean we shouldn't ask for things. This is the stinking Wish list. What is important to remember is that just becuse you don't want a module doesn't mean other people don't. So what DCS always needs are more developers, modules, and assets.
