~S~ Greetings and salutations, This post is to announce the release of a new Flash cockpit trainer for DCS:Blackshark. If you ever flew Falcon 4, then you are probably familiar with the cockpit trainer for that sim. This is very similar, but much more detailed. When you mouse over buttons, switches, and guages, a pop-up window will give a brief description of that item. Some items are clickable giving you an even more detailed description. This Cockpit Trainer was developed by a fellow War Hawks member, WH_Snacko, for our squadron Training Module. But once we saw the level of detail Snacko had put into this, we knew we could not keep it for ourselves. War Hawks Training Module Full War Hawk members have access to all training courses, but some are open to the public. The cockpit trainer can be accessed by clicking on the above link. You can then scroll down to find the KA-50 Cockpit Trainer in the Blackshark specific area of our training module. You will be prompted to log in or view as a guest. Guest access will allow you to view this trainer as well as a few other courses. If you have any questions or would like to join us for full member access to other courses, feel free to contact us from the War Hawks Website. Thanks to WH_Snacko we now have a stand-alone version available as well. Currently hosted on a mediafire account here: Stand-alone DCS:Blackshark Cockpit Trainer Respectfully submitted,2 points

Virtual Pilots of the well-known combat flight simuation ‚Lock-On’ by Eagle Dynamics now have a good reason to celebrate: Almost 10 years ago, SSI / The Fighter Collection conducted the Millennium Trans Crimean Race, at that time based on the famous ‚Flanker’ Su-27 simulation. Now, the team of the German combat flight sim forum „Modern Air Combat“ announces a re-run of this event to take place in January 2010. Quite some popular sponsors are contributing to this event: 2Connect.de spends a brandnew TrackIR 5, Saitek gives away a new X52 Controller and ‚The Fighter Collection / Eagle Dynamics’ sponsors several copies of the combat helicopter simulation ‚Black Shark’ from the new Digital Combat Simulation Series as main prizes. Register yourself and win ! For more information see here: http://www.modern-air-combat.de/TCR2010 Credits to SovI3t and Namenlos Ein for their translations and Crunch for his friendly support !!1 point

Was anyone here at the Edwards Air Force Show last Saturday at 10/17/09? If not, here's a few pics in case you missed out: I left at 2:45 AM...got there around 6 AM before the gates were opened, had some fun with this B-52 Got in....sometimes being "too early" is a bad thing...I had to walk 1.5 mile to the base because the shuttle buses weren't in service yet Well enough talking, here's the rest of the pics: Me in front of the 747 wearing an Eagle Dynamics Shirt :)1 point

Heh yeah I guess that was predictable :D Indeed! :) . It sounds like the idea is to upgrade the currently airworthy Su-33s, acquire new MiG-29Ks as replacement for the non-airworthy/lost Su-33s and then operate them in a mix for increased flexibility. It sounds like a pipe dream, but if you consider the numbers it sounds plausible. Initially there were 24 Su-33s(i.e. an air-regiment) and as I understand it there are about 10 left in airworthy condition - this leaves 14 units, which in turn corresponds to the number of MiG-29K/KUBs acquired by India......i.e. if Russia places a similar order the 279 KIAP would be back up to full strength.1 point

Yeah, Jens is like lost in space and one just has to whisper MiG-29K or anything related to the russian navy and here he comes :D Good to hear again from you, mate ;) Nice thread.1 point

I don't see any reason why the next FC patch (if there will be one) shouldn't include some code changes (arrestor hook) that would allow your 29K mod to land on a carrier (player controlled). Why don't you pull some strings at ED?:D1 point

Как птенцы с жадно разинутыми клювами, громко выпрашивающие подачку. Противное зрелище.1 point

Yeah, the specs list I wrote are related to the 9-31 and are Wikipedia figures. So highly questionable data... But here's a nice video:1 point

Meh... I don't really think they qualify as RPG. :P Will be neat when it arrives tho. :)1 point

Vekkinho the second link is to the official site of RSK MIG, so the specs listed there are accurate for the new 9-41 and 9-47 versions. The specs you listed I believe are supposed to be for the old 9-31 version, but they are not corrrect: The wing span is 11.99 m The wing area is 41.6 m2 The empty weight is 12,700 kg The normal T/O weight is 17,700 kg The max T/O weight is 22,400 kg The engine(Klimov RD-33K) performance sounds about right - IIRC its some 8,800 kgf, which would translate to the figure given in lbf.....i.e. some 500 kgf more than the standard RD-33 engine(8,300 kgf) of the "baseline" MiG-29. This is for the 9-31 and if you compare the above with the specs given for the new 9-41 on the Migavia site, you can see that there are slight differences - e.g. the take-off weights are slightly higher and so is the engine power of the new RD-33MK.1 point

You call ME, NOT GOOD?? No seriously, population can be low at times but there are enough other good players around. Maybe try to fly on other times during the day? Something i find a really frustrating is seeing like 10 servers of which 7 orso or Password protected and all those PW protected servers are sitting there empty for hours. So here an request for the people hosting those servers, When your not flying there whit your friends please either close the server and safe some $$$ from your electricity bill or remove the PW so other people can have some fun to.1 point

Nope. My experience consists of several training flights because I don't like helos1 point

There are many players.... Of course if u expect to have Il-2 Sturmovik population you will be sad when u won't see so many ppl. ;]1 point

NICE! I couldn't even get through the front door at the 2005 show....that's what happens when you show up at 10 AM....foolish me, so this time I left 2:45 AM and instead of the West Gate (where most of LA is coming from), I went to the North Gate- a bit farther but I was one of the first 7 people to get in. Thanks for the pics! I just wish I was there to see the F-117 fly before it was retired. And too bad the Blackhawk wasn't there at the 2009 show.1 point

Cry Engine 3 is designed specifically with next gen consoles in mind (PS3,and 360s) and is actually a dumbed down version of the Cry Engine 2. So no it would not make sense to use the CE3. The engine does cater more so towards first or third person shooters detail. However it does have some amazing tool sets that are very artist friendly and that I'm sure the artist of DCS would love to have. DCS is a very specific type of game and does have unique challenges that very few games are faced with, and I would say that the DCS team is staying on top of and incorporating all the new technologies that make video games/sims up to date! After all I would say that DCS sim is the Crysis of the flight sim community.1 point

Funkster, after you join a server and the mission is loaded, click on the Briefing icon at the top of the screen. If you do this after you select your plane you also will get the name of the airport you are taking off from. Kuky, I am sure Bob just put the names in there for reference.1 point
