A small texture change for the flare. I thought the original too red. The installer will put the texture where it needs to go. Temporary link for today only. File size 1mb linked removed because someone from China and Turkey tried to hadk my system.3 points

With help from forum member MetalNWood I managed to get a livefeed MFD/CDU Ipadpit prototype. I say prototype because it is not yet usable for real simming but it’s a start. The idea is to grab screen dumps from you static MFD and display them on the Ipadpit. Using Touch IR+ with webview buttons and a by MetalNWood custom made screengrab/publishing tool. It is to early to say if it something that can really be used. We have to see how things go. You can see a demo here:3 points

There have been a number of questions about how to program the CDU with a waypoint that a JTAC calls in and has not been datalinked to you. Hopefully this video helps and is not too confusing. Original video has been updated with 720p and voice over narration. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKDIQWZIHmo2 points

As you may know, TACAN, like VOR/DME, consists of two components: the bearing component (called "REC" [receive-only] in the A-10) and the distance component (called "TR" [transmit-receive] in the A-10). The reason bearing information is available in receive-only mode is because a TACAN station continually transmits bearing information. An airplane does not need to send a radio signal to calculate its bearing from a TACAN station; it merely needs to listen to the signal and perform some analysis on it. In order to receive distance information, however, a TACAN station must be able to listen to incoming interrogations as well as transmit replies. The A-10 sends out a series of radio pulses which the station retransmits; the Doppler shift then can be used to calculate the distance. As everyone knows, you can't transmit and receive simultaneously on the same frequency; thus, two frequencies are needed in order for a TACAN to provide both range and bearing information. Rather than make pilots memorize two frequencies for each TACAN station, the engineers just decided to make both frequencies a set distance apart. When you tune in one, the jet will automatically tune in the other for you. In MIL-STD-291C they establish that distance as 63 MHz. One channel corresponds to 1 MHz in TACAN, hence, 63 channels apart. When you tune in, say, 126Y on your TACAN, your airplane's DME transceiver is automatically tuned to channel 189. So, how does this work A-10 to A-10? Well imagine you're designing the A-10's radio navigation system. To do TACAN ranging, you've installed in the jet the capability to transmit a series of pulses, then listen for a reply, subtract out the Doppler shift, and calculate a distance. You're a bona fide DME receiver. Now what do you need to be a DME transmitter? Well, what does the station do? When it hears a series of pulses, it retransmits them. Your jet can do this too, easily. So it's almost zero additional effort to turn your jet from a DME receiver to a source of DME information for other jets -- and no additional hardware. So how come you only get distance, no bearing, when using this air-to-air mode? Well, let's look at how TACAN range is calculated. A TACAN station, like a VOR station, transmits two radio pulses. One is a very narrow beam, less than 1 degree wide, pointed away from the station, that rotates through the compass rose once each second. There's a second omnidirectional pulse that's transmitted every time the first pulse sweeps through magnetic north. So, to calculate your bearing from the station, you just subtract the time between when you receive the two pulses. Let's say you're 90 degrees bearing from the station. You'll get both pulses once per second, but the narrow pulse will come one-quarter second after the omnidirectional pulse, because that's how long it takes the narrow beam to sweep from magnetic north to 90 degrees east (when it's pointed directly at you). So if we wanted to add this functionality to an A-10, we'd need to be able to make an omnidirectional radio pulse (which the A-10 can do), as well as a sweeping narrow-beam pulse (which would require additional hardware). Additional hardware, additional weight, no-go. They install this equipment onto tankers, fine, but not attack jets.2 points

While I understand your point, I don't think your proposal is the ideal or realistic solution. Waypoints created in the ME are really flight plan waypoits and as such need to be set at appropriate altitudes and you should not be messing with them unless necessary for the needs of your flight plan. What we really need is an ability to set independent waypoints in the ME separate from the flight plan, which would be stored in the mission waypoints database of the CDU. For now, I think the best approach is to set a markpoint at the waypoint location using the TAD cursor. This is a quick and easy function and will land you at a point on the ground near the WP location. You can then switch the CDU to mark points, make the markpoint your SPI and slew to it.2 points

Oh, gods. Not the DU fallacy again. There is more radiation emitted from a banana than a 30mm DU round. That's right. A banana (potasium isotopes... which also release a higher percentage of the more harmful, higher energy Beta radiation than DU, if I recall correctly). DU is considered hazardous because it's a chemical hazard, not a radiation hazard. In much the same way as lead, as it so happens. Both are relatively benign in their elemental (IE, metallic) state, and not easily absorbed into the body. As an oxide (usually a dust or powder), they're absorbed by the body (and can be breathed in). However, both are very dense, and tend to pretty much stay on the ground unless it's quite windy. So unless you either regularly play in destroyed tanks, or were in or very near the tank when it was destroyed (in which case heavy metal poisoning is the least of your worries), you're probably all right. The exception to this is if the attack was in close proximity to a water source (like a stream) in which case it would have more lasting and widespread effects. But again, it's a simple chemical hazard that is, as far as I have researched, pretty analogous to lead in both vector and toxicity. .... but then again, "they" want us to get rid of lead bullets, too.2 points

JEFX’s GUIDE : HOW TO TRANSITION SMOOTHLY FROM BETA VERSION TO RELEASE Please, allow me to make my small contribution here. Every time I went from one version of LO or FC to another, or from one Beta to the other, I was contemplating the idea of a clear and complete method to do it without forgetting anything. Therefore I made myself a small list and I want to share it here. Feel free to correct or comment if you will. Getting the appropriate files : Of course, first and foremost, download from the main DCS website the Release Version of DCS A-10C (all 4 files, placed anywhere on your HD, but IN THE SAME FOLDER) If you do have a 64bits W7 System and had to fly DCS A-10C only in 32 bits before because of TIR not working, they have now an update to their software that allows 64 bits games to run, you get it here : http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/06-support/support-download-software-and-manuals.html I suggest software version 5.1, it works great. I can tell from my experience that it helps the performance to go from 32 bits to 64 bits, therefore I wouldn’t hesitate to use it now that Naturalpoint have upgraded! Upgrading TIR : (if necessary) Uninstall (using the remove program control panel of windows) the previous version of TIR software but before that, do keep a copy of your profiles somewhere, they will work in the version 5 of the software. Instal the new software version of TIR and once installed, click on the update button to make sure you have the very latest of everything. You can now copy back your old profiles in the new profiles folder of TIR 5. Some people have had the experience that the software was not seeing their camera (no device found…) : if this happens, simply unplug the USB cord of the TIR camera and plug it again (perhaps in another USB port, it helps sometimes for the computer to see it… stupid windows…) Take note of your changes in the config files : (very useful) If you have made any changes in any of the config files (ex.: view.lua), it is now time to jot them down in order to remember exactly and use them again in the new config files that the program will install. For those with TripleHeadToGo, for example, they need to change, in config/view/view.lua, line # 126 from [20, 140] to [20, 175] in order to allow for the wider field of view. Also in server.lua, line # 119 from [140, -65, 90] to something like [200, -120, 90] or so (bear in mind that I am talking about the new line numbers of the installed Release version). If you like to use your own snapviews like me, you will want to take note to change both (new) lines #49 and #50 to false (DisableSnapviewsSaving AND UseDefaultSnapviews). Since this is now the first release version, I would not keep any old files but remember that, once you will have saved all your snapviews using RAlt-KP0, you might want to copy the snapviews.lua file for later patch instal. If you like to tweak you labels, remember to take note of what you change. For example, may of us like to change ALL labels to a ‘ only which can help a little SA without cheating too much (at least to help learning the beast). This is done in config/view/labels.lua lines # 31-50 (new numbering) by changing what is between the two quote signs by the character that you want. Some like also to change the color of the labels to a neutral color that doesn’t show the sides. For a nice grey that is really not that evident to spot, that can be done in lines #54-55 (ColorAlliesSide and ColorEnnemiesSide) by changing both to [65, 85, 45]. Keep your screenshots : Of course, you will want to transfer the content of your screenshots folder somewhere before reinstalling the new version! Keep your custom missions and campaigns : You will also want to keep a copy of your user made missions, for future use, but bear in mind that they are not supposed to work very well from beta 4 to the release version. Later, from Release version to a future patch (if any…) they might work better. Take note of all your options settings in game : Take note all the system options that you have settled for recently (texture, scenes, water, visibility range settings, etc…). Since those simulators have a big demand on computers and systems, one is constantly experimenting with settings in order to get the best compromise between beauty and realism (some call it eyecandy) and performance. You will want to set your new version (release in this case) to the exact same settings in order to compare performance. I even suggest that you run a simple mission (take of from say Batumi with no clouds, etc… and jot down the fps in cockpit, outside, etc… Take note also of all other pertinent options (sound, etc…) that you might like to tweak in the same manner in the next install. Take note of your keyboard assignments (if you changed any) and your HOTAS axis setup and button assignments (including curves, Toebrakes inverted, etc…). Uninstall the beta version : Once you are sure that you don’t need anything from your previous version, uninstall using the Windows uninstall programs control panel. Then, manually erase all remaining shortcuts, and even the Eagle Dynamics Folder in your Program files Folder should be deleted, some folders and files are leftover from the uninstall process. I suggest then to clean the system and the disk a little. The best app for cleaning is from Piriform and is called CCleaner (it is totally free and very well known). You get it from here : http://www.piriform.com/ Once you have it installed, you can run both the Cleaner and the Registry cleaner of this wonderful program. The next step would be, if you want, to defrag your drive from which you operate DCS A-10C. This is important because it can slow down the usage of the software a lot. Another great tool from Piriform is called Defraggler and you get it free from the same site. Run it and defrag your program files drive (defrag your ‘C’ drive but not your SSD if you have one). Install the release version : Once your computer is clean, you can now install the new version (do let internet running at the same time, this will automatically ensure that the DCS website sees your serial number, if you are installing on the same machine as the Beta version was installed. The process is the simplest possible, just click on the setup.exe and it installs the whole thing automatically. Backup your new files : Before you do anything and even run the program for the first time, I strongly suggest that you copy the content of the whole DCS A-10C folder to another location (you need approx. 7 Go of free space somewhere). Believe me, it can come in handy if one file gets corrupted or you messed up something with a tweak or a mod and you want to revert to the old file without having to go through the hassle of reinstalling the whole thingy… Set-up your config files : It is now time to change whatever parameters you want in your config files (field of view, snapviews settings, labels, etc.) according to the notes that you have taken. Run the software for the first time : You can now start DCS A-10C. If you have done all those steps well (especially uninstalling completely and deleting all unnecessary files), you should not have any problem running the program, it works like a charm. You should now go to the Options settings and dial back all your previous settings, (system, sound, game, etc… Axis settings, curves, etc…) There is a !bug! that one should be aware of : you cannot try and bind a key to something new if that key is mapped to something else in the long long list of key binding : it crashes the program CTD. Make sure you unbind the key before you try, (use the CLEAR button at the bottom of the window). Always clear the original binding before trying to make your own. Try your test simple mission : Use the ME to make the same simple mission (from scratch, of course) that you had used to test the performance. For my part I was thrilled (like many on the forums) to find my performance greatly improved from the Betas to the Release (it almost doubled my frame rates, and I was able to crank up my settings as well!)… And from here on, the fun starts… :smilewink:1 point

Title says it all :) This little mod (originally used in DCS Black Shark and FC2.0) alters the definition of the smoketrails and effects in DCS Warthog. Simply extract the 3 tga files from the RAR file into your TempTextures folder (located in your \DCS A-10C\Bazar\TempTextures directory) to apply it. Hey guys. I know I upset some people here with my off-color remarks about the communication from the staff. My new name, and the photo one of my new fans came up with in his precious free-time were AWESOME. LOL. Seriously, dude, couldn't have come up with better, even if my whole life revolved around sims and forums. You got me beat there, bud. Anyway, I downloaded the final release torrent last night (and yes, I pre-ordered and paid for the betas AND the final). It confounded me too, guys. I think some of you thought the betas were free. But, remember, we all paid for a serial number, which we needed to actually play the game. :smilewink: But, what I've gotta say is the final release is very streamlined. The installation process kicks ass, with only a small window doing the work. So far the sim runs flawlessly. I have only had about 10 minutes at a time to put into looking at it, but I can tell you that everything about takeoff in the AGM-65 training mission looks and feels fantastic. The training narrative about the 65, I could have written myself, but nevermind that. It was easy to do, but don't get me wrong, ED. Your development process is what it is, and you hit walls. I know this. A broadcast e-mail ain't hard though. :smilewink: Write that sucker. Edit the sucker from a few days before to reflect a change, or an error you made. No way around it though. The final product the ED boys have produced is KICK-ASS. I've gotten into takeoff and post-takeoff so far, and it sorta came up the other day when a mechanic reached into the cockpit during ground tests and said "I'm gonna pull the gear warning breaker. You'll have a nervous breakdown havin to listen to that." So far I've just played keyboard pilot to see what the frame rates are like. But you have produced what looks like top-notch stuff here, and I have to offer my apologies for bein so critical. Oh, and to my new buddy who has dedicated so much time to me? I LOVE YOU TOO, MAN! LOL! Cheers! :pilotfly:1 point

beacause tankers will have a slightly different system as they need it for you to be able to find them, AFAIK a fighters TACAN only transmits pulse for range, and doesnt have a TX of putting out a rotating wave which would give you bearing, I could be mistaken, or it could just be more modern systems that include this. The aircraft I work on cant provide bearing but they are quite old!1 point

Greetings all. The Pre- Purchase release by ED for the A10-C is for some of us, a very early Xmas present! :joystick: The fidelity, thought, research, blood sweat tears and of course time, that has gone into this project so far is incredible. Some are having problems with it; Hardware conflicts, low / poor frame rates and 'bugs' that appear seemingly randomly, but to be fair, ED did not hide this on release. The Open Beta channel has been setup for us to post our thoughts and problems and works alongside ED's closed Beta as a way of gathering appropriate information to be addressed in future patches. Wags recently announced that there will be no more producer notes for the A10C due to ill health (good luck with op!) and there being not enough of a commodity that is valuable in business - time. There will however, be interactive information missions and these (IMHO) will undoubtedly dot the i's and cross the 'T''s. Until the Retail release however, There's some excellent videos on you tube on how to FLY, NAVIGATE and ENGAGE with the A10C and you will want to augment these, on to your own training regime. I would like to offer you my own series of IVS. Currently It is all ENGAGEMENT orientated and may offer some clarity with regards to the employment of some weapon systems. This Series is Ideal if you want continuity of instruction, rather than a million different methods, voices, quality of format and instruction, etc. All videos are available in HD 720p. Please use that and full screen. Pause for 1 minute after selecting 720p if neccessary, for buffering. Annotations are in use. Just doing my part. Please Enjoy them. Thanks. No. It is not a parking brake, it simply switches the wheel brakes from the left hyd system to the right hyd system, you still have to apply the brakes using the pedals. If using the right hyd system you have no anti-skid available.1 point

If the TGP diamond is off the HUD, then the dashed square SPI-off-the-HUD symbol will have a TGP diamond in it if the TGP is SPI. I'm fairly sure about that. Should be there in the manual, look up sections on the TGP and it should mention that.1 point
-
Good idea for us but bad idea for developer and mods. People arguing in realtime will be a nightmare to moderate and worst of all, eventaully, someone will accuse the developer of not getting involve.1 point
-
Hey Dropbear, let's try and get this cleared up for ya. Regarding your first question: You can verify SPI creation by looking at the Targeting Pod Diamond in the HUD and notice it changes from a simple diamond pre SPI designation, to a diamond with a straight line or "tail" coming off it, at an oblique angle. This is how you can verify whether or not your TGP target is the SPI. Now regarding TGP/MAV interaction, you seem to have a good grip on it, but let's review. For clarity's sake let's identify some terms. TMS UP or TMS Forward are the same as they sometimes are used interchangeably in both the forums and the manual. There are a few HOTAS buttons that have a dual function depending on whether you press them quickly, or hold them for > 1 sec. TMS UP Short is a quick press, TMS UP Long is a long press of the TMS UP button. Ok, so you slew the TGP diamond on to a target. You need to have the target within a direct line of sight with the TGP. The plane itself can block the TGP and you will see a flashing or solid M indicating "Masking" this means the TGP can not lock a target or range it with the laser. But all is not lost the great thing is the TGP has an inertial memory and will keep track of your target for you, all you need to do is turn the A-10C around so that the TGP is facing the target. Now with the target with direct line of sight with the TGP you hit the TMS UP Short to go from inertial tracking (INR) to Area Tracking (AREA). One more press of the TMS UP key will take you into TRACK mode. This is where you can set the TGP Track point as SPI, with a TMS UP LONG. Confirm the "tail" on the diamond and then switch to your MAV page. Make the MAV page is your SOI, and then hit your CHINA HAT FWD LONG to automatically slew the MAV seeker on to your TGP's SPI. Once the seeker is slewed on the SPI, you can zoom it's view in by hitting the CHINA HAT FWD short once to magnify your view. The rest of the Maverick engagement will proceed a tiny bit differently based on factors such as whether or not you target is in a highly cluttered environment or on a barren plane with nothing else around it. Basically you will wait until you believe based on previous trial and error when you should proceed with your final button press before hitting the holy grail of button's..... the Weapons Release button. Now here is where experience and trial and error come in to play and you will have to learn this part for yourself, but for a rule of thumb you can engage most targets with an AGM 65 D at around 7 nm. Some will be further, some closer. When you feel the range is right, hit the TMS UP Short, and look for the Maverick crosshair symbology to change from non intersecting crosshairs to a tightly intersected crosshair that kind of flashes rapidly. Once you have this symbology, hit the Weapon Release button and egress. I hope this helps you out...and welcome to the Forums.1 point

maybe ED could implement a money system. like you get paid after each mission depending on it's success. you could earn further money by selling interviews to the press or playing poker at the o-club after the missions. then you have to buy your ordnance before missions. in between missions you can take the UAZ for a ride, drive through the streets of batumi and buy apartments or fancy clothes. even a hotdog in case you were hurt.1 point

I agree with Geskes. DCS:A10C was delayed for months because of the compability requests for FC2 and DCS:BS. Let's face it: Ensuring downwards compability between new DCS modules and older version (also FC2) will take away much of the resources needed for development of the DCS series. You wouldn't try to make your Blue Ray player compatible to 78 RPM records, just because there are so many old records around, won't you ??1 point

mooshim, Huh, you've been to this side of earth? I thought flight simmers don't get out much. :D Yeap. not only is the Internet slow but it only works every two or three days. Do away with blood sucking locals and taxi drivers Samui is all right. If you want powder-like sand, prestine beaches and crystel clear water all year round you've gotta go on the other side, Andaman side, of Thailand and further south. Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi, etc. And if you're a diver then Similan islands are heaven on earth. Whale sharks go there in May to feed and poop. :D I work at W Retreat if any of you ever come to Samui; I can get you special rate and some brown girls. :D Sobek, I was refering to the behavior of most IT guys that go tattletaled to your boos if you've installed programs and downloaded anything from work computer. Yup it does work just as indicated above, HOWEVER.. I was operating on the 1st VFW server this morning and I believe it was discovered that you can keep NAV alignment by engaging ground power and shutting down engines. Then when repairs are made your jet is "cocked" (kinda) so that u can start engines...disengage ground power... and zoom zoom... If I can confirm I will re-post with conviction... ~Rave Or I can wait for OPPSpectre to confirm it. Thanks! (I may not get in the jet till the weekend)1 point
