  1. So I've read through several CBU threads here and of course by now most people are aware that you can adjust the RPM of the CBU-87 and also the HOF on the CBU-87/97 and their gps-guided equivalent cbu-103/105. This is all well and good, and it is outlined in the flight manual for anyone not yet familiar with the practice. However, one little item I had not been able to find any information on was the "FNC time" line displayed on the CBU-87/97 inv page. After a lot of self-testing I determined that changes to the FNC time were making zero difference when applied to a standard CBU-87/97 drop at any HOF/RPM setting. Ah, but then I noted yet another fancy little button called FZU-39, yes/no. The manual only briefly explains that the FZU-39 is a built in radar function that these CBU units employ to determine their altitude AGL. Well, I tried to switch it off and sure enough when you select FZU-39 "no" then the "HOF" selection dissapears! Well i'm sure many of you can now see where this is going.. So I loaded up an A-10 (offline) with 5 CBU-87 and 5 CBU-97 and took her for a spin at 25k ft. Switched all CBUs to FZU-39 "no" and FNC time to the lowest values possible. Released the bombs and presto! the CBUs all popped open less than 1 second after release, at 25,000 ft MSL! Needless to say, IRL this would result in one heck of a spread! And in the sim it does too, but only a slightly larger spread than you see with a 3000ft agl burst. And of course, the effect on target is absolutely minimal. But, if you drop 10 of them all within 10ft spreads it makes for a pretty neat light show on the ground. And a bit of lag. Nonetheless, I thought I would share this information with the community as the manual contains zero on FNC time and next to zero on the employment of the FZU-39 yes/no selector. Also a word of caution: When utilizing these methods I highly recommend setting the FNC time to 1 or 2 notches greater than the minimal values. Some CBU bursts seem to result in bomblets travelling upwards which can result in the occasional engine fire or worse.. tl/dr; FZU-39: no FNC: 0.63/0.95

  5. My attempt at flying an A-10 high airshow demo routine. Based loosely on AFI11-246v1 and the A-10 West and A-10 East Air Combat Command Demo team manoeuvres. Select 1080p go full screen, crank the volume and enjoy! Apologies for the lousy editing...

  10. There will be no actual F-35 over there, only the simulator or mock up. All flyable F-35's are here in the US. As a matter of fact, I am pretty lucky to work on AF-7 here at Edwards AFB in California as a crew chief. Pretty fun job.

  14. Something else to note, AndrewD states on his Twitter page that a second driver could be coming soon after 11.7 http://twitter.com/#!/catalystcreator rumours are going around that this could be the 'Mjölnir II' performance driver that has been spoken of lately, we'll see ;)

  15. Hello LC! You have to edit the optionsData.lua located in your DCS A-10\MissionEditor\data\scripts subfolder. I did it with notepad++ because I'm not sure if it works with the windows notepad/texteditor. Graphic options begin in line 265. Some of the options (scene high, textures high...) have a onlyArch64 = true behind them. Just set them to false. Save the file (backup first!) and start your game. All options are available now in the ingame graphics menu. Do it on your own risk and don't complain if the sim stutters with high settings, if you get CTD's or the game even vanishes into thin air! :D In case you are too lazy to edit the file yourself, i have uploaded it. All restrictions disabled - you can turn on every option (HDR and cockpit shadows) and to high settings. Here you go: http://uploaded.to/file/orwv671i

  17. I think i got it. It seems I had the advanced options in the wrong order. Apparently frequency first, then callsign, then fac. Not the reverse as I had done.

  19. Then it is definitely a problem with how you setup your AWACS flight to operate, inside the mission editor. As I haven't yet created a custom mission with AWACS, I can't help you further, but that's the area you need to concentrate on (there's probably some actions you must define, for specific waypoints). I suggest you open up a mission that already has AWACS operating properly (say mission Push-1.1.miz from the Georgian Hammer campaign), and take a look at how that object is setup.

  20. Mark Z is a weapon event mark. So where you fire your gun or drop a bomb, this will become Mark Z automatically.

  22. As you discovered, the FZU-39 is the proximity fuse that enables the CBU to burst at the desired HOF. Without the FZU-39, you're left with a mechanical timer that determines the Function Time in seconds. Be careful with this setting, as it's possible to frag yourself with an intact canister if the TOF is less than the Function Time, but greater than the Arming Delay.

  25. I think one of the main problems is currently there isn't many missions out there. Nearly all of the excellent community missions used Speed's chatlib scripts but it no longer works in 1109.

  26. After serving for 8 years and still good contacts and first hand feedback from buddies in the german and UK forces I don't argue about what warfare is about or want to neglect the fact that it is brutal. I DO strongly agree with the point that lots of civilians (especially in Germany) are so way apart from what "peace-keeping" and "order enforcing" missions in Afghanistan or the Balkans are really about. I DO hate the common view that our guys who keep their ass in the line of fire for our phoney politicians reputation are accused of being bloodthirsty maniacs and whenever there is the chance media and politics want them chastised for things that everybody who knows a little bit about armed conflicts will see as "normal". When it comes to sending soldiers into war I have the strong belief it should be the absolute last option, but after the decision is made let them do their job without harassing every action or the stupid ROE enforced during the Kosovo conflicts. What I meant was: People who "enjoy" gore that much may want to experience what real war is about. Get a little bit shot at (...a really cool experience *sarcastic*). If people join the armed forces because they "like" killing people, shooting around and feast on brutality they are at the wrong place! A soldier is a well trained specialist, not a trigger happy killer, besides his mates will not likely go on patrol with some stupid jerk risking everyones live for his personal thrill). The problem is the "job" itself. Sometimes I feel the average civilian is seeing soldiers like some vegetarians see butchers. Both have a job you may not find to your personal liking, both jobs include bloodshed. Only that soldiers find themselves accused of murder on a regulary bases (at least in germany). ...but on the point of lofty moral standards: It is not about neglecting the fact that there is violence in war, but for me as well as other (ex-)soldiers I do not need extreme gore to be immersed into a simulation. I would not enjoy / thrive on virtual bloodshed nor on real live bloodshed. When we look at the YouTube war-porn and especially the comments what do you guess this is good for? Some people say "Oh my god! This is what war is like..." or do we see lots of "I grew up during the cold war and didn't join the military sure wished I did love that shit :)" (Original comment from YouTube!)... I had some guys in our unit that had a similar attitude. I guarantee this is not funny and luckily they didn't get themselves injured or killed in live firing exercises. ...and don't tell me DCS: A-10C is not enjoyable or realistic, because bodies don't get blown to pieces ;)

  29. I almost had the same thing but in the endI did neutralize the Osa and neither Mi-28 exploded. But they tried their best. Pilots #3+4 broke off from the west and started doing their stuff. Other than that the mission was brilliant fun. A few AI problems don't get in the way of a brilliant game.

  30. ^^^ Would be great if you could do that Igormk, there are some bugs with the sound files. Sometimes the voice recording can suddenly dissapear, but i guess it´s because of the updated sound engine in v1.02. SPOILER BELOW Also on the mission when you will attack an airfield, and take out the sams that are guarding that area, i made it halfway to the attack point, and i was preparing my weapons when i hear on the radio that all the threats have been neutralized..In the briefing it said that i was the one that should take out those sams to clear the way for the mi8´s and the special forces;) Not sure if it´s a bug though. Anyway, it´s a great campaign so far

  31. W00t! Passed the 8th Mission! \o/ It was a blast. The wingie came to the party this time, so after expending all my Vikhrs, the wingie started rippling his off and I headed for rearming. Upon my return the wingie joined me and I spotted the 2nd wave quite late in their approach. Took out the first couple vehicles, then the AA tracks - ordered wingie in again. Panic got the best of me as the defenders started taking some losses. Me being winchester missiles, I broke ROE and screamed over the river for a rocket run. I expended my rockets and managed to take out 3 BMPs, but got struck about at the same time my last rocket left the tube by the SA-8. :( I fought the Ka-50 to over the river and ejected. Luckily I could find some shelter in one of our BMP's, while the last 2 BTR's were taken out by the defenders. My wingman also got taken out by the SA-8. He also eject behind friendly lines. The mission truly was a blast at the end. I do agree however that the Russian ground forces need a boost in skill and 2 extra Ka-50's should make this mission clearable on first attempt.
