With the Cold War map released I figured it was time to give some much needed attention to this ancient AI model skin. Very much work in progress/test phase, but the goal is to release a high res (8K) template with weathering, panels and rivets etc. Starting with an East German skin, the 3D model has a few shortcomings (one sided tailplane amongst others), but I hope this can be a nice addition to the Cold War map:10 points

Well, let me start by saying, thank you for pointing out my mistake. I must have accidentally left out that line when I got the Raptor enhancement mod working again. The mod hadn't been updated in well over a year since I was away from DCS for that time. Last year, changes to DCS broke it. I have corrected that missing line and uploaded it. A team, including myself, is currently working on a new and improved version that will be much better than the old one. An EFM model is being developed with a unique flight model that is much more accurate to what the F22 can do based on what is known. I have been updating my enhancement mod for that EFM and all of it should be ready soon. I was, in fact, just updating the external fuel tank gauges last night to work with the EFM so that they're all accurate. The current version for download WORKS, but...it also kind of sucks. The flight model it's using now, based on those changes from last year is awful. And it's out of date, still referencing F22 features from the previous version of the mod that were removed. You'd be better off waiting for the new version. Lastly, that was only your second post, and you only joined the forum about a week ago, so either your very new, or you never wanted to post before. The tone of your question came across as somewhat accusatory. In the future you might consider pointing things out a bit more diplomatically. For example: "Hey, I noticed this line to load the weapons textures was missing from the entry.lua." Instead of "So why was the line missing?" The former is being helpful; the latter is being entitled. We all work on these things for FREE, in our SPARE time when we're not working our full-time jobs that pay our bills or spending time with our families. Please keep that in mind the next time you're enjoying a mod that a community member has released. Thank you,8 points

No release date set yet. There will definitely be information available when it's released. Thank you! You are perfectly correct. I have a couple of Chinese assets not yet released. They aren't completely done yet, but it would be a waste not to release them if they are almost finished. I will probably go back to the Chinese pack after the release of the core assets and see which additions can be made to the mod packs with light work.6 points

Can we please get this addressed at some point in the near future? Having no zoomed out map available for Kola and Afghanistan often makes it impossible to read the WP course angle, it's starting to become quite an annoyance as they are both extremely relevant for the Hind.3 points

Hi again. Iam sorry that i come across as "entitled" iam really thankful for everything you and your team are doing. Part of the fact is that english is my second language so sometimes when i formulate a sentence it looks wierd. Also yes its my second post because i always try to solve the issue myself or try to find a fix online, so typing on forums is always my last resort because i don't want to bothe people. Anyway once again thank you for your hard work i am sorry again.3 points

One big fly in the ointment is that trainer aircraft do not translate to computer games, and there is no real need, nor overwhelming desire. Trainer aircraft are something for enthusiasts like me (I own each and every trainer aircraft in DCS, love them all). No average player wants to sit through boring lessons, performaing 2 minute turns. They want to blow stuff up, and fly the mighty fighters of Maverick et al, not a dinky trainer that can barely fight. I've tried with some friends, even springing for the trainer aircraft. Result: they never fly the trainer even though it was free (to them), and they learned flying with the (much cheaper) FC Eagle. There are no downsides in games to start with the real deal. Trainers simply aren't "sexy" enough. So even if ED invested the required funds (significant investment), I think it will be a dud. What I would like to see is if ED invested in tech that allows two people to fly the same plane (provided they both own it), so an expert can sit with a tyro, and talk them through or even set up the plane and they then can hand off to each other. But an actual trainer? With apologies for the cheap pun: won't fly.3 points

As promised, here is the duplicator: https://github.com/ChariotOfFLAME/DCS-StaticTemplateDuplicator NOTE: think of this as a small-group duplicator; it is for use with things like SAM sites, static aircraft displays, beach clutter, etc. It is not for use with map-wide or airport-specific templates. e.g. use it as a way to create re-usable templates for common groups of units you use frequently across missions in all theatres. As stated above: Hope you all like it!3 points

Yes, this is a problem when developing an aircraft that was only recently declared fully operational. It's part of the reason why I think that the F-35 is a poor choice for DCS. However, developing a pre-IOC aircraft would really solidify that the F-35 is a poor-choice in DCS for me - on top of everything else (like the lack of relevant peer threats, low fidelity sensor modelling, lacklustre EW etc). And to be honest, the only thing 3F materially improves when it comes to DCS-relevant aerial warfare is external carriage of 2 AIM-9X. Most of the changes relevant for DCS would concern AG armament.3 points

Good Morning/Afternoon, Everyone, I'm sorry. I have been focusing on my health for the past six weeks or more. I'm happy to report that my back surgery (Disc replacement) went well. My back X-rays look great. It can take 6 months to a year for my back to fully recover. It should be known after three months whether the surgery was truly successful based on any back pain I'm experiencing. Lately, my back pain has been constant but manageable. --The problem with any kind of pain is that it interferes with your concentration and focus, so some days I'm just not into modeling. Concerning creating 3d models for DCS. I have been working on mods in the background just to keep my skill level up, but I'm not working on anything that I will be releasing. I have a lot of military assets I have that I would like to work on. CH helped me correct some of the issues with creating Military Tanks. I created a Tank for DCS some years back, but that's when the coding for DCS was much simpler. Coding is still simple as long as you have good instructions, but that is non-existent as far as I know. You're pretty much on your own when it comes to creating mods for DCS. Thankfully, I understand the basics. Anyway, when I feel like I'm healthy enough to return. I will let you all know. Thanks for all your concerns. I appreciate it. It shows you're human. PatPatpowerCat, thanks for modifying the Admiral Ushakov AI ship mod. At some point, I will work backwards to correct all the issues with the mods. Thanks, everyone, I hope you all have a great weekend.3 points

Hey everyone I've been working on a full-fidelity Piper Cub mod, specifically the WWII L-4A variant, for quite some time. Now that it's getting close to completion, I figured it was time to share it with you all. I started this project because I wanted to learn about aircraft physics and flight modeling, so I chose the simplest aircraft that came to mind, thinking I would just write the EFM and use a free 3D model as a stand-in. Eventually, I got tired of looking at ugly models and decided I wanted to take a stab at 3D art, so I ended up creating a 3D model, textures, and animations to go along with the EFM. Currently, the Cub mod features a fully custom EFM that uses a blade-element theory approach to model aerodynamics. This method divides the aircraft's wings, tail, fuselage, propellers, and other surfaces into multiple components and calculates the lift and drag forces acting on each aerodynamic component. These forces are then summed up to produce the total force acting on the aircraft every frame. This approach is really cool because of its simplicity and how it naturally captures complex flight dynamics that occur at high angles of attack, such as spins or snap rolls, without relying on large datasets stored in lookup tables. The EFM also includes a realistic simulation of the Continental A-65 engine and propeller, including effects like p-factor, gyroscopic precession, and propwash. While my primary focus has been on the flight model, I've also taken some time to make sure the model looks decent and is realistic to the L-4A. I chose this particular variant so it can be used in various WWII scenarios, whether early or late in the war, and it will have skins appropriate for the ETO, PTO, and MTO. Additionally, I've included some M1A1 Bazookas, so it has at least a bit of firepower, and we can recreate the exploits of Bazooka Charlie. Some parts of the 3D model are still WIP, but here are some pics of the current state of the Cub.2 points

S-3 and S-3 tanker skins are broken again. Continuation from this locked thread after they had been reported and fixed: Baltic Dragon's and Reflected's liveries, only available in their payware campaigns, are not working. Tomcatter's liveries, also used in some of Reflected's payware campaigns, are also not working--mainly CVW-8 but others have missing elements as well.2 points

With the Cold War Germany map, i think it's really imperative for ED to focus on filling in the missing cold war assets. Based on what modules we the primary fovus should be on things that left service after 1972 but entered service before 1991. The secondary focus should be assets that could do double duty for wwii maps. I think we need more Korean era modules before worrying about the ai assets.2 points

Thnx for the feedback guys, this started as a remake of an existing skin for the old model with a lot of the main panel outlines in place. However, as work progressed, I have pretty much redone all the panels and rivets as well as weathering and adjustment of the skin file so it aligns as much as possible with canopy openings, landing gear bay door animations etc. Its a tedious and time consuming job and I’ll share more as work progresses. It’s important to note that the goal is not to be photo-realistic, but to create a high degree of similarity to the real plane within the constraints of the 3D model and available graphic files. @Urbi Not sure I understand what you mean by “proper working labels”, you mean text markings on fuselage?2 points

I'd like this too. Here is my map list for 1942 Midway/eastern Pacific - ideally ,I would have Midway, Hawaii, and Wake Coral Sea/ North West Australia and New Guinea- Stalingrad (ideally I'd love to have a caucuses 2.0 with a modern era map and a WWII map) North Africa (a 1942 Sanai map would be a good starting point ) I'd also add the P-402 points

Hello Flanker1! Are you out of date? Dynamic numbers make no sense. Firstly, they are not three digits and secondly, they contain this error, which has not been corrected for 10 years, of the number pair not being on the same plane. The GDR logo cannot be displayed correctly on the vertical stabilizer because it is mirrored. Even in the first picture from sonic_NO, the NVA coat of arms is incorrect. Black in the coat of arms is always shown when viewed from the left. Also on the wings above and below in the direction of flight. I hope Sonic_No also makes the effort to create proper working labels. Normals do not work either because this layer is not assigned.2 points

Here is a late afternoon picture that I took from the backseat of an F-4 as we were turning into the traffic pattern at Nellis in 1968. You can see the ends of Runways 03L and 03R and the shadows on the Sunrise Mountain at the right side of the photo. Poor quality photo, but it might give you a benchmark for comparison.2 points

One more thing, we should remember that he likely never fired a real Phoenix at a real, high speed target. Training in those days was done using timelines and calling out shots, which would be evaluated based on a number of parameters. As they didn't have computers to help them (they were expensive and took up a whole room back then), it had to be simplified somehow. Without more information, it's hard to say whether this is a factor here, but depending on the assumptions taken, it could lead to actual flight time being off.2 points

I’m curious about other pilots experience on this. When I’ve checked CPU usage in the last few weeks, the primary loading appears to be on 4 cores. Thats not to say that more cores is pointless, as they can offload secondary tasks such as Oculus VR and various windows apps. it does however make me wonder if ED have optimised the current build for use with 4 cores, as pretty much all DCS player PCs will have at least 4. If that is the case, makes me wonder about the effort required to use 8 cores, which is seemingly becoming the norm.2 points

Hi guys, I've been working on the cockpit today. Tomorrow I'll start moving the gauges and compass, removing that modern seat and installing an older wooden one. I'll get everything ready to have the model ready for retopology and then output the low-poly model. I've separated the aircraft files into two, as indicated in the manual. One is the cockpit, and the other is the rest of the aircraft. Right now, I'm completely alone on this project, so please be patient as I have to juggle it with my other job (I'm starting a video game studio). Greetings, everyone.2 points

While we don't have an EGI, the real manual for this system states that the Kalman filter continuously updates the RLG INU with GPS data as errors are accumulated, and that errors tend to accumulate in 84-minute cycles, with 16m spherical error probable on military GPS. With an 8-minute or less alignment that indicates RDY, CEP is stated as 0.8nm per hour. This is also valid for stored heading alignments. The Kalman filter with status HIGH has a position error less than 300ft, however the manual also states the same as the mini-update that GPS accuracy is 40 meters. The last time I tested, the Kalman filter/GPS was working and keeping error within 300ft. Using INS only drift rate was exceeding 0.8nm/hr, showing a drift of 0.8nm (going off the DED delta when doing a fix) after only 30 minutes of flight after a cold start, so drift rate seems to be twice as fast as it should be. 400-foot drift with GPS on shows that the Kalman filter is no longer working. People constantly complain about nav accuracy with JDAMs but the bigger issue, especially now with Cold War Germany, is that we cannot do pre-planned pops as the Viper was designed to do in that era because the nav system and HUD symbology is too inaccurate for weapons delivery. Sure CCIP gets your bombs on the target, but the VRPCCRP/VIPCCRP and OA1/2 plus TD box symbology is supposed to put you on a proper wire, which is dive bombing 101 fundamentals. The drift is too excessive and fixes too unreliable to get on a proper wire for the intended target. Fixes don't even work well from a cold start aircraft. They work on an air start and when doing a fix almost immediately after mission start, but when doing a fix after cold start and a 30+ minute ingress, only the selected STPT gets fixed and the remaining STPTs on the flightplan do not get updated. 2003 Block 50 manuals have EGI. F-16.net discussions indicate Block 50s had EGI by 2005. Our INS+GPS supplement system I can only find in late 1990s manuals. Most likely they're modeling a specific tail number that was late to the upgrades.2 points
