  1. Well, I tested it in 2d before VR and the difference is extremely noticeable. When I started it in 2d for the first time I was also not that impressed. But knowing the promo videos I knew there must be some option. After setting it to ultra, I got what I expected. Nice detailed clouds. Can't say the same for VR
  2. I know that they are planning it. Iam just curius how this is in reality. Can I fool a radar/IR missile by diving through the clouds?
  3. Has somebody some sources and knowledge of how radars and IR seekers are affected by clouds (in reality)? If DCS models this correctly at some future point in time, this can get really interesting.
  4. I guess those are just parameter that controls the distance when the LOD of an object is reduced to save processing power. So it heavily depends which part of your GPU is the limiting factor. If vertex processing isn't a problem, then you won't notice any frame differences. This should be the case for the people with up-to-date hardware.
  5. Official statement would be nice, true, but I hope it's a bug and not intended. Low quality clouds would take away the fun (my opinion) of flying between the clouds.
  6. Then I don't understand the link between clouds and mirrors
  7. Don't think the clouds are missing depth. They are just lacking detail and are blurred out. My bet is on some difference in postprocessing of the frame buffer when the pipeline of mirrored image and VR image diverge. However, since I don't know the exact code, I am just guessing
  8. I also mentioned it in my earlier post. Wasn't sure if it was only me being too tired. I guess this information should be quite valuable to the devs, since it narrows down where this is coming from.
  9. Hint: There is a new checkbox in the vr options that affects screen mirroring. It cuts out a section of the image so that the HMD mask isn't visible during mirroring. I guess it also works for screenshots
  10. Also a VR user and during my quick tests yesterday I also noticed that the performance seems to have increased significantly. Guess we have to reevaluate now which settings can be set to higher values for an increased "wow" effect
  11. Interesting. Have to test it. Good to know that others experience the same. I was also really diappointed by the VR quality of the clouds and didn't see any effect of the quality settings in VR. I had also some problems when comparing what I see in VR with the mirrored image on the screen. The clouds seemed to look so different in quality (better on screen) that it was hard to find individual clouds to compare how I perceive them in VR and on a flat screen (used the highest overcast setting). Maybe this was just because I was extremely tired yesterday and the screen was too small and far away. If not, it might be some extra or missing post processing step in VR that is applied. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense to me since both images share the same frame buffer.
  12. The russian version of this subforum is here: https://forums.eagle.ru/forum/278-virpil-controls/
  13. I don't think most simmers will have a problem with graphical overlays if it is not mixed up into the real systems. I can image something like this being accaptable for most players: - Open Petrovich menu - select something like "attack targets at" - visual overlay with a cursor (or HMCS like pointing) pops up and you can select a target region that gets visually marked. -A menu lets you add some kind of target classification that the gunner should priorize and the size of the search area - after confirmation the pilot gives a short order to the gunner that roughly describes the position of the selected area and target type - the gunner confirms and engages targets as selected if he can see them Point here is: - due to area selection targets won't get auto-highlighted since it can be abused for spotting. - The visual selection overlay is decoupled from the aircraft sensors and not much more of an immersion killer than the jester pop up menu - the short audio orders of the pilot to the gunner and the resulting delay in execution will probably add to the immersion/realism.
  15. Finally! I think this is the first time ever that it took me less than 20 seconds on steam to find and purchase a product ... Think the only way to beat this personal record is preordering the apache once it is available.
  16. Bump. Any news here? As of testing it yesterday, the problem still remains. Laser turns off shortly after the timer goes to 0. Without manual reactivation, the Maverick misses.
  17. The Ka-50 with its coaxial rotor system is quiete unique. As StevanJ said, it is "easier" because it is relatively stable when compared to single rotor helicopters as the Mi-8. You will learn much faster how to hover in a Ka-50 than in any other DCS helicopter since there is basically one axis less (yaw) you need to care about. So for a beginner, it might be the right module. Just make sure that you watch some tutorials about the auto pilot before you start flying. Otherwise, you will always fight it and wonder why your helicopter keeps turning "randomly".
  18. Thanks for the replies I found this thread regarding those columns: Seems like this is currently not implemented
  19. I am currently creating some kneeboard pages to help some friends to learn the basics of the A-10II. I know there was an update in the HOTAS commands a few month ago. Not all of them seem to be covered in the current manual. For example, according to the manual, Coolie switch down swaps the MFDs but in reality it now makes the HMCS SOI. Since I am not an expert on the A-10 and I havn't learned all the HOTAS commands I wanted to ask if somebody can tell me if there are any other changes that are not covered by the manual yet.
  20. Basically the same, except that the pilot is bound to its position. Once somebody has occupied the pilot position, the others can send a request to join. If accepted, they can change the position as in SP as long as the spot they want to go to isn't occupied by another player.
  21. Still waiting for steam
