  1. Good points. I pushed the Baltic map, as quite a few other for those exact reasons. Nearly every aircraft in DCS at one point or another has flown over this area either in anger or during times of relative peace. Spitfires flew in both RAF recce roles and Soviet colors. BF-109's in both Finnish and German colors. I-16 by both Finns and Soviets. Each and every one of the more modern types you mention has been or is currently flown around the Baltics and Northern Europe. F5's by Norway, Viggen by Swedes, Migs by WarPac, Soviets, Finns and Russians etc etc. The terrain ranges from high mountains, deep fjords to 68000 some islands and same number of lakes in Finland. Tundra and low fjells in the north. Incidentally, RAF 151 Squadron operated up north during 1941 with operation Benedict. Commanded by the appropriately named Ramsbottom-Isherwood, it involved Hurricanes Area saw some seriously heavy fighting on ground and in the air during winter war and WW2 in general. Flight detachment Kuhlmey basically provided critical assistance that kept Finland from being overrun in 1944... A campaign for the Fw190 perhaps. Battles that ranged from then Leningrad all the way to Gdansk. Or the earlier incident of Finnish OH-ALL Kaleva, a JU-52 being shot down between the winter and continuation wars. Kaleva (airplane) - Wikipedia Currently Baltics are a hive of activity with Russian aircraft transiting Kaliningrad to Russia with Finns, Swedes, Poles and BAP missions intercepting daily from Bases in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Baltic Air Policing - Wikipedia Basically this area is relevant for nearly all the aircraft types, up to the Mosquito that also saw service over the western parts of the Baltic and the rather famous Oslo raid, overshadowed by the Amiens raid.   2. Most jets have a CSD or Constant Speed Drive that drives the generator, surprise surprise at same constant speed through idle to max rated thrust and above. It is connected to the accessory gearbox or similar. I have never seen any ITT/EGT/TIT changes or loss of jet engine performance IRL or in a manual due to generator running at max capacity. Systems are designed in such a way that you are able to load these and use everything you need. Certainly true on modern combat aircraft as well as civilian equipment. However what does have a huge performance penalty is using bleed air for anti/de-ice purposes and or if pneumatics are used to run hydraulics in addition to electrics and pumps connected to the gearbox. To add to that, some older soviet types might and western piston general aviation aircraft do suffer from loss of engine power with excessive electrical demands. Some IRL have automatic shedding of generators in case of exceeding or approaching engine limits such as the Mil-8/17. This is well simulated and quite accurate in DCS.

  4. Pagan has not been in use for years. I landed there with a Cherokee 6 about 23 years ago, even then it was touch and go. Not my smartest aviation decision making, but I wanted to go exploring on foot.

  8. you can't help but feel like there is some money grab going on... Your words not mine. As for the cash grabbing by DCS, I'm very sorry but I do not get that impression with them. If you want to see what real money grabbing looks like, check War Thunder forums.
  9. DCS is a business, not a charity. I've paid for the modules I have (all of them except the Mosquito yet). Not always 100% happy with everything, however, patience is a virtue and personally I am willing to wait.
  10. Can't run mine on battery when playing DCS. Needs a lot of power to keep it going smooth. Even a gaming laptop like mine does get pretty warm. I keep the AC on cool in what ever hotel room I am serving a quarantine sentence. Warthog is not cheap in any sense. One of the biggest reasons I got this set up was that the local electronics store happened to have one sitting on a shelf. I had seen these before in various aviation and computer stores around the world and wanted one. Just too big of a box to drag around the world before going home. Additionally this shop was willing to entertain special orders. So I ordered the Reverb G2 and Thrustmaster Pendular Rudder from them as well.

  12. I've tried to spin it with various configs. I am able to get it into a spin with great effort and deliberately mishandling it, but it then does 4 turns or so and recovers on its own. Not realistic. As has been said, the module has issues.
  13. It is a pretty good model. For one if you have an instructor to teach you to fly, it does work as a good trainer. That is, the problems that have been mentioned elsewhere on the forum do exist, and there are some limitations as well as some things that need tweaking by DCS. However that being said, we have tried it with a non real life pilot friend of mine with some very good results. There is also the L-39 and Charlie One Oh One that fit the description. The Yak is a real world trainer and it is a really good aerobatic platform. If you learn the basics of flying and aerobatics on this DCS platform, you can take what you have learned to every other model on DCS and benefit from that greatly. You can also take what you have learned and fly a real life Yak-52 or even an -18 with similar benefits. You have to learn how to walk before you can run holds true in pretty much everything. The TF-51 is not a dual control aircraft. It basically models a private P-51. It is not a training aircraft for one who does not know to fly anything. I mean there is really no need to buy a trainer. You can jump straight into a B2 in virtual world or a 747. No problem. But if you really want to learn how to fly, well the DCS Yak can help with that.
  14. It is actually a really nice flying model. Quite easy to learn different modes, I've been flying it a lot. What is said above is true. If you want to fly it against most modern what DCS has to offer, you are at a serious disadvantage. However against Mig-21 and the likes, -19 even -15, Sabre and the helicopters It will hold it's own. I have yet to try the F5 in the multiplayer environment as I have found enough entertainment doing ready missions and campaigns. The Cold War sounds quite interesting. Regardless, I can recommend the module as a good starter.
  15. I guess any rudder or anti-torque pedal will do. I fly in real life so I figured something heavy but readily adjustable was something I'd like.   16. Well. I use laptop. Albeit a pretty good one, but still a laptop. It runs fine. Only with Reverb G2, do I need to tweak down a bit on the graphics to keep it reasonable. I travel a lot and use DCS in hotels as a past time so dragging a desk top with me is not an option. That being said, a 3090 card equipped desk top is the plan before the end of the year. Warthog HOTAS set up with the pendular rudder. Again too big to drag around, but flying with these makes for a very nice experience.
  17. Never have either, but just gave it a try. A 747 from cold and dark, you could be 4 turning and burning with about 30 knobs, switches and push buttons.
  18. I am VR when home but hotels, on screen only. It is too much to drag the whole catastrophe of stick, rudder (Anti-torque pedals), throttles and VR set with me. Very curious as to how this will work out.
  19. I'd prefer to see instruments under the NVG, but I guess this probably very difficult to simulate? Is there a topic on the forum somewhere about it? As for the IHADSS, I have never used one IRL, so I do not know if you can see the outline of the combiner glass or not. If you can, well then it is realistic and I rather keep it. I would also wager that you will be able to stow it as well.

  21. I had the same problem just recently. L-39 and F-5. I had to remove and reassign key bindings. That fixed the problem.
  22. Absolutely possible, even probable. I am working with an ex CZ AF gent. He would know. I'll ask when I see him. As for the Mig-29 full fidelity model, it be a really neat addition.
