  1. Using a Samsung crg9 5120x1440 49” ultra wide monitor. Game looks fantastic, everything is great, except the HUD’s. The lines and letters are fat and blurry. Its not a brightness thing. I’ve had to modify the .lua files in each of my planes ( and make ovgme mods so I don’t have to keep redoing them) to get the HUD lines and letters to be crisp and clear, like when using a non-ultra wide monitor. The rest of the graphics in game are great. I’ve seen people mention having similar issues on ultra-wides in the past, just thought I’d bring it up again, maybe ED can add to the list to figure out better native support for ultra-wides Oddly enough its not as bad in the F-18 as it is in the AV8B, F-16, and A-10. The harrier is the worst as it also affects the mfd’s as well. A-10 I have not adjusted* couldn’t fine the correct file/ lines to edit.
  2. I’m definitely not opposed to learning the procedures. I’ve had a couple of times where i wishI knew how to restart an a10 engine in the air, or at least try lol Ive seen quite a few people say you actually get faster that auto start, just like you mentioned since there are several l things you can do simultaneously that auto may just do step by step. I’m sure there’s things you van avoid too like cycling the fuel probe. I will admit that in the harrier the auto-start sequence is almost agonizing as it basically makes sure everything is shutoff first, and starts some things, runs a bunch of tests before it actually starts, starting-up.. one other note is autostart does force a full ins alignment. I know the a-10 at least you can do a partial and cut a few minutes time off.. although I’m really not sure how a partial would affect the plane compared to a full. Benefits and drawbacks of both ways I suppose.
  3. Been playin dcs for several years now. Ive never learned how to start anything but the p-51… yes I autostart everything, why, because I just have no interest in it. To each his own of course and I would support the option for peoples servers to have it disabled, It would be their choice and there’s nothing wrong with that. I have 3-5 aircraft which I switch through flying all the time. Its enough work for me to remember how to fly them and use the systems LOL For some, I’m sure, doing the start procedure is the only way to go, definitely adds that one more level of immersion. For me, I only have so much time on my hands so saving a couple minutes( choosing targets, making a flight plan etc while auto start is running) is, i suppose, invaluable. I want to get in the air and on my way as quick as I can. Ironically though, I do prefer cold start over hot started aircraft. If I came across a server that had auto start disabled, I simply would move on to a different one. Unless of course it was, hands down the biggest, baddest, most action packed server that ever existed, where you would be dumb NOT to play on it
  4. Sounds like it would be a good mechanic. Current MP isn’t bad but its such a free for all, it almost feels like there’s no real goal or accomplishment. Who is doing what, what impact am I actually making by blindly selecting targets to attack, are the A/A people trying to fend off attackers so ground pounders can do their job, or are they just screwing around for the fun of it, ( also vice versa for ground pounders. )Mind you I do play MP a lot of the time regardless. Like you I have no time to join any squadron with any sort of a requirement schedule. Something implemented like this, very much like liberation missions, may not be a bad idea at all! Something to make MP a bit more organized. +1 for an idea like this
  5. I 100% agree that units sitting in an open field isn’t any sort of challenge. I would hope for enough density to make you have to be creative and think a little harder, but not so much that you’re just bombing tree tops, hoping that one might make it through without hitting a branch lol Maybe destructive trees are in need? There definitely needs to be a good plan going into a map like that. I know its high on a lot of peoples lists, so it will need to be very well thought out, when the time is right. Maybe the future Dynamic Campaign/ Dynamic Missions will allow for more ways to win the war than just blowing up every unit directly. Take out bridges, block units into areas/ immobilize them, cut off supply lines etc. Maybe a group of units is hidden in thick cover with no good way for air support to take them out, but cutting off their fuel/ammo delivery, could render them inoperable. One can only hope
  6. Definitely a good point. I don’t know a lot about military history so the era/ location/module specific conflicts don’t reach me in any more of a way than a made up battle with an intriguing backstory. I’ve always loved flight/ combat sims, ever since Wings of Fury on the old commodore 5.25floppy. I just like carrying on and blowing stuff up. The detail and fidelity of the modules really keeps me hooked. Keeps that childhood fighter pilot dream alive! 3rd party devs are free to do what they choose. If ED themselves were creating random maps that weren’t inline with modules/ conflict eras ( which as said is a huge part of the player base), that would be more cause to question, I think. But to each his own. I’m sure there’s some method to the madness….right?
  7. Australia, cool! Kola, cool! Sinai, cool! Bring them on! Why bash a team making maps for us to enjoy different experiences around the world. This coming from a casual, I could care less about recreating real-world scenarios, on realistic timelines. For those that like that stuff, great! Everyone likes what they like and there’s nothing wrong with that. Don’t like it, don’t buy it. Pretty simple. I’ll buy it on day one, because I like having the variety of different terrains regardless of where they are, what actual timeframe/ conflict they’re associated with, and whether or not there’s a realistic selection of aircraft for the particular area/ time. I like the a-10, harrier and f-16 the most. I have the 18, f-5, the fc3 planes, a few helis, and couple of warbirds. 99% of the time I use one of my top 3 Personally I have no interest in some of the modules coming out besides the f-15e at the moment. Guess I’m the odd man out that plays DCS for pure enjoyment Vietnam is a map that I would buy to support DCS’ future, but would probably hardly play if its created as dense as its real life counterpart. It’s not going to be fun if all of the enemies are under a thick canopy of trees and shrubs and you cant see where they are to actually destroy them. Also since, currently, a tree leaf will detonate any munitions you launch, that makes dense maps pretty much useless. Marianas takes my 80-100 fps average down to 35-60 (alt dependent) and thats just a few small islands. I don’t think a dense Korea/Vietnam map would even be playable at this point in time unless it was significantly underpopulated Point being, am I excited about Australia or the others? No, I’m 100% indifferent. Will I buy it/them, absolutely! If it adds to the freedom to do what you want, where you want, and help expand DCS as a whole, Its a win for everyone in my book
  8. I get it, to a point. People much smarter than me have the ability to re-code files as they see fit, probably to a point of unfair advantage. I was commenting on a post the other day of a guy having the same issue, exporting displays with Helios that has to modify the viewporthandling.lua. Do the hardcore sim pit guys that do this just play single player? It’s not the end of the world. But it would be nice to have things that only affect the client side of things, even just visually, excluded from IC
  9. Ive never found one for i-pad. Went and bought the cheapest samsun galaxy a-7 I could find to use dcs-ufc.. worth the $100 imo but I would much prefer an iPad version… the cheap a-7 is kind of laggy compared to an ipad but I wasn’t about to spend $500 on a higher end galaxy tablet just to run one app.
  10. I use the mfd export method by that guide, but I don’t use Helios. Maybe there is a conflict trying to use both So I’m really no help lol anytime I’ve ever edited something in the viewport handling it fails integrity check so I quit messing with it and just stuck to the basic mfd export to an 11.6” screen with mfd cougars mounted to it
  11. Anyone know how to ( if even possible) keep the ground clutter from popping in completely? The bubble for pop in is so ridiculously low it’s annoying. I’ve recently been playing Syria a lot and the little bushes popping up 50 feet from the plane is ridiculous! Is that a map thing, or a game thing? I tried to go into the config lua in saved games and set the clutter to -150000 like a post on Through the Inferno’s site says, but it did nothing. I feel like the ground clutter slider should control distance not the amount, or maybe a separate slider would be good. I would either like it off completely, or having some but have it render far enough away that it doesn’t look like a Roblox game popping everything in 10 feet in front of you. Don’t get me wrong I love DCS, I play almost everyday, but man, some things Obviously only an annoyance for helis and low level fliers. Doesn’t bother me one bit at 20,000’ lol
  12. Hopefully optimization will be part of it. I’ve only played on Mariana’s a couple of times since it released because I get half the frame rate as any other map ( down low ground pounding). Kinda of a buzz-kill.
  13. There is a “mod” / software called Helios that you can use to exports gauges and all sorts of things as well, but thats a whole different ball game. There’s is many threads on using it but it is quite a bit more complex than a simple mfd export to a second screen. Don’t forget to undo your viewporthandling. Lua modification first before doing the other mfd export through the guide. I’m sure it messes with it in some way, but it’ll be modified the way ED intended it to. Nothing worse than fighting conflicting scripts, then having to go back to square one and start all over
  14. Go to the forum section called “multi-display bugs”, the second or so thread down is a step by step for exporting the mfd’s. Do it that way and you won’t have any problems. I made an ovgme mod for the viewport handling.lua to shut off the mfd’s in the cockpit on screen so only my external ones display and it doesn’t pass integrity check either on most servers. Just the way the game is setup. Seems that the viewporthandling.lua is just something they don’t want people messing with. Not sure why really, it doesn’t give anyone any unfair advantage.
  15. In the main dcs options/settings under “special” click on the av8b icon and there’’s a box to check mark to export mfd’s. No need for a keybind
  16. When I first installed my WinWing Orion throttle it wrote a line of code to my export.lua that for some reason capped my frames right around 60. Deleted it since I don’t use the sim app pro software anyway and its no longer capped. I don’t understand why but it was the culprit
  17. well i didn’t try those LOL kind of odd to word it like that, but I will give it a go. Thanks for clarifying, I honestly didn’t know what those binds were for because of the wording. Now reading it and thinking of it like a logic switch, they do make sense.
  18. I agree! Why on earth isn’t there a 3 pos keybind for this?!?!? Increment up and down makes no sense
  19. I have the Orion 1 and it wouldn’t register until i pushed through all the way to the forward stop.. couldn’t get it working in game until i realized the parking brake also locks the throttle lol and I just read the date of your post so you probably figured it out by now
  20. 100% agree! I avoided the mission editor for a long long time! Wasn’t interested in it whatsoever. Finally watched a couple tutorials on it and it’s really not that complicated. I then kicked myself in the A** for ignoring it for years
  21. Yes you have to go into the lua file for the monitor setup and adjust the positions.. in the forum under the section “ Multi-Display Bugs” there is a pinned guide to setting up the screens and exactly what and how to edit.. takes some work but its so worth it having external mfd’s!
  22. I think you guys are doing/ have done great! I’m sure there is a lot of limitations of what can and can’t be done with the current game engine. Everyone and their dog will want something different, something changed, something added but you can only do what you can do. I’m happy with the purchase and excited for its future!
  23. Go for the track radar first. TR symbology on HAD and HSD. If the SAM site cant track you it can’t t shoot you. Disable the TR and the rest of the site is useless and inoperable. .. Of course there are exceptions, like sites that can track and shoot down your ordinance, or an SA-5 which has a much farther range than your HARMs or jsow’s.. for those, dive tossing up close from very low altitude or a RUK HARM strike using the same method can work as well. I usually either go really high and really far away, or really low and really close. I don’t know if I’d call what I do “tactics” by any stretch of the word, but it works for me.
