I was on a Facebook page the other day and saw that ED had implemented cows into the Normandy map meanwhile, the map still flickers, has shadow issues, and is still plagued with issues that get complained about all of the time. This whole civilian casualty thing goes right along those lines. All I can say is, "What a complete waste of resources". Cows? People in civilian clothes? As if ED doesn't already suffer from FPS and memory problems. All of the time people are on these threads complaining that they cannot find vehicles, other planes, targets of all sizes and shapes. It's brought up all of the time and has been from day one. Now we have cows? Something that we really aren't looking for to begin with and will not see anyway? And now people are asking for civilians? Blood? Seriously folks. Go play Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 where they show exploding heads if you want to see that kind of stuff. To my mind, ED is costing my rig resources already by adding things that I'm never going to see to begin with. No A10 or F18 pilot is ever going to see a cow (much less a civilian) unless he's getting ready to crash into it. The only time you'd be seeing them is in the WWII planes strafing at ground level. And even then, I'm to busy setting up my target to care about a cow, and people are almost impossible to see even that close in DCS. And if you are just shooting cows....go buy a hunting game because you just spent a hell of a lot of money to use DCS for all the wrong reasons. I rarely fly DCS these days because ED seems to be focusing too much on dazzling us with silly toys rather than working on problems that they have not been able to solve now for years. I don't want people that I'm never going to see on the ground, or cows that I could care less about. It's all just fluff that takes precious memory that ED cannot seem to fix to begin with. Modules that have been broken for years. Promises that never get kept. Projects that will never get out of Beta. Assets packs where the few assets that are there do not work. I'm not trying to undermine ED but this is years of stuff. Not a few months here and there......Years. And now, cows? It seems to me that ED is focusing on the silly stuff and not on what needs to be taken care of. I am not complaining, I'm spilling the facts as I have seen them on these forums and in game. I purchased this software and am happy to abide by it's terms. So.....Since I'm becoming less and less enchanted with the terms. I'll fly less and less, and also purchase less and less. In my mind, ED has lost sight of what they originally got into this game for. As far as collateral damage, it can be included in the debriefing like it usually is in the real world. No pilot really ever sees or knows what damage outside of his intended target is until after the mission. This has been stated time and time and time again in soooo many documentaries dating back to WWI. There is no need to go blowing civilian memory hogs just to see the gore and their lovely clothing all over the battlefield. There are plenty of GAMES where you can see that.

Is the building view distance better than NTTR?
Zimmerdylan replied to FlyBaby's topic in DCS: Persian Gulf
I think that it's very much a matter of opinion. I have not really noticed any difference in the buildings from 1.5. Mountains, trees, and other stuff, but not really buildings other than there are a few more in places. As I said, it's probably opinion though. I know others who seem to see a difference, and still others that don't see the differences that I have noticed. -
Yup.....flack is a bust. Also the armor that takes direct hits from A10 rockets and suffers almost no damage. Aircraft that never flies right, and no enemy assets to speak of outside of indistructable tanks. Assets pack is the biggest disappointment that I have ever purchased from ED, or any of it's 3rd party devs. Gives me pause to purchase new stuff until it's complete.

Wow....I keep getting knocked down a grade or two. Those pesky court marshals and article 15's.
-
I took that off my machine over a year ago. Useless software. Of the years I had it, I may have used it 2 or 3 times. No one was ever on. Now since I can't even get on line in DCS any more, who really cares?

It's your money. Spend it any way you want. Letting a lot of complete strangers tell you what to do with it is a bit like asking them if you like chicken, or fish. I mean.....You have already pretty much made up your mind. The validation of strangers isn't going to change that............

Feature Request: Realistic Mustang Start-up Dynamics
Zimmerdylan replied to Magic Zach's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
All said and done....The DCS Mustang is about as real as it gets folks. No other sim that I have ever flown is 95% accurate to the real thing. -
For the life of me I will never understand why anyone would go through steam for any game. Some games require Steam....I played one of them and ended up taking it and Steam off of my computer. Steam just seems counter common sense to me.........

First day my a$$....I'm trying to cram the money into my computer right now!!!

I have been doing this DCS thing for a long time now. I have put in a lot of time and money. I own all but a couple of the modules. The Mig21, M2000, Harrier, and C101 are the only ones I don't have. Every time I boot my DCS up, I am faced with a dilemma. What to fly? what to fly? As I tap my fingers on my desk while scanning through all my planes. I'll tell ya. It has been a real problem. I love flying all of them.......sometimes....well maybe all the time. I don't friggin know. It has led me down this path of being pretty good with some aircraft, kind of good on others, and just overwhelmed on others because I forgot some of the complicated procedures because I don't fly them enough. I'll tell ya, it gets on my nerves! So......I have resolved to become proficient on just 3 aircraft. Not that I'll give up on the others, but I'll concentrate my efforts and devote more of my time to just 3 aircraft. I will break it into three categories: WWII, Jet aircraft, and of course....helicopters. I'll do all of the training, purchase campaigns, and really work at them. OK....now what???? I have been pondering this for months. I keep changing my mind. One thing I do know is that I am leaning heavily (and always have) toward the A10C as the jet. What's not to like? There's nothing better than pounding enemy targets into the ground. And the detailed cockpit is just awesome to me. But then again...That F-18 is looking pretty serious. And the F-5 with it's simplicity. See my problem??? I could go on and on about all of the modules. But one thing I know is that I am a jack of all modules but no where near a master of any of them. I want to change this. But it seems I'll just keep tossing it all around in my head and never make the decision to really become great at any of them..........Sigh.:joystick:

Wow!! My wife is happy when I'm playing DCS. It means I'm not in her way, or pestering her about trivial stuff. Basically it keeps me out of her hair.

I don't have much time to fly. If I am lucky.....one or two hours a day. But, I don't always use that time flying DCS. I have an 8 year old with an Xbox. He is limited in the time he is allowed to play his games. Since we live in the remote desert, he has no friends to come play with him so I am his playmate on the Xbox. What little time I do have with DCS, I mostly enjoy.

Hey guys! Went on the new map this morning. Not a bad first day. Everything looks pretty good. To be honest, I don't see a huge difference between this map and NTTR in many places. Lots of open desert, generic buildings. I flew an F5 pretty much from one end of the map to the other. Performance did seem to be on par or close to the Nevada map. I did encounter one problem though. My mouse cursor is about an inch off. Otherwise, when I place it on a switch or knob, the actual spot that it effects is about an inch to the left of the cursor icon. I placed the + over my right fuel tank and when I tried to turn it on, it actually flipped the center tank on. I soon realized that to do anything I had to kind of feel where to put the cursor so the that actual action point would land on what I was trying to activate. Anyone understand what I'm trying to say? Anyone know how to fix it?:joystick: Thanks!

Wow....I guess i'm pretty lucky. Updates usually hit here around 11 in the morning.

This tells me that the Persian Gulf will most likely be the last map that I purchase. The technology is bypassing my computer. I'm not inclined to go out and buy a high end rig when the primary use of my computer is for work. It works great for what I need it for. DCS is just a part time fancy and the price of gaming hardware is just stupid unreasonable $$$ at this point. I'm not saying that the new map is should not use advanced technology or be improved just for those who aren't into spending all their money on gaming. I'm just saying that I am not one of those people. More power to ya if you have a passion for it as a hobby.
-
Assets pack is pretty much a waste of money also. I'm leaning toward the growing list of people who are cutting ED off $$$$ until the already released stuff gets finished. It's getting pretty ridiculous.

Purchasing the Persian Gulf Map for MP, who's buying it?
Zimmerdylan replied to F900EX's topic in DCS: Persian Gulf
I remember the tons and tons of hype that surrounded Nevada. I couldn't believe how insane the community was over it's release. People waiting by their computers for hours and hours waiting for it to drop. Very shortly after it's release, it became secondary to Caucasus by a huge margin. I know few people who really like and appreciate it nearly as much as they do the Caucasus map. I hear so many complaints about it and how it doesn't measure up. So it's not nearly as popular as ED's original free map. I personally don't fly Caucasus very often. I find the desert much more suitable to my enjoyment. But I am a gross minority. Every time I want to fly with someone on line (not lately as I cannot get on line any more), they always opt for Caucasus. Only a few go with Nevada and no one flies Normandy. Then......Normandy had even more hype, more excitement than Nevada. You would have thought ED were releasing a world map of epic proportions with that release. All anyone could talk about was the WWII map for months on end. Look what a bust that turned out to be. No one flies it. I don't really fly it and I love anything WWII. The release of this new map will be pretty unpredictable at this point. I purchased it and will probably fly it frequently given that I love the desert landscape. But it is absolutely impossible to speculate with any accuracy whatsoever if it's going to become anything more than Nevada or Normandy. Personally....I don't think it will be anything more than Nevada. People tend to have short memories when it comes to this kind of stuff........ -
When I come to the forums, or anywhere be it on the internet or otherwise, I do not ask what a person's sex, gender preference, religious belief's or nationality is. It never enters my mind. I don't know who is a woman, man, Islamic, Jewish, or Asian here. Why should it make any difference? It seems to me that pointing out differences and labeling them as Discrimination only brings conflict to the table. Pointing out that you are different when no one really cares (not to my knowledge anyway)or knows only serves to alienate you and makes it seem like you are seeking special treatment. I am Buddhist (I really am). Does that mean I ask people to address me or treat me accordingly? My best friend is Jewish, who happens to be gay. Should He ask for some New York Hasidic voice with feminine overtones for my bitchin' Betty? When I post things I do not point out my differences. By and large, I believe that many people do not know or care about these differences. In my opinion, this is a non sexual, non political, non discrimination forum. Bringing it into the forum is just asking for trouble. Sorry....It just seems kinda silly. I don't care if they ad new voice overs. That's pretty much a non issue to me. The original post seems to be trying to pull everyone into a discussion that doesn't need to be had. Just saying, "Hey DCS, why no female voice options?" rather than breaking into something that's political and amounts to femininst rant would have served your purpose much better.

AI Controlled Huey door gunners ever going to be fixed?
Zimmerdylan replied to CAPT Jebus's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Even then...Please fix them all the way if you could, not just a half fix like the embark feature that was only fixed in a hobbled sort of way. I am failing to understand all of this half patch and that's ok for now attitude. It's very annoying and is now stopping me from further purchases. -
This seems to be the trend now a days..........

The Gazelle and Cyclic input with a Joystick.
Zimmerdylan replied to FragBum's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
FragBum: I'm using a CH pro stick. My problem is that (only with the Gazelle) that I can move my stick in any direction and it has no immediate effect on the aircraft until it gets to a certain degree and then it seems to catch, and when it does, it's not subtle. I end up having to go in the complete opposite direction to correct, and it is very difficult to not overcompensate. So basically, there is a dead spot in the center. It does not show up in the control settings. I can even see the the cyclic moves when I move my stick, but the AC itself doesn't react until it moves to a certain point. I would post a track but we all know how that works. Just another issue in a long list of growing issues. I have to stand by my opinion. I'm not upset. I just don't fly those modules. I don't need any adjusting. My attitude is fine because I don't take any of this personally. But we've all been putting up with many of these issues for a god awful long time now. So.......I just stopped investing in modules at this point. I enjoy the planes that work and don't bother with the ones that don't. Pretty easy really. -
The Gazelle and Cyclic input with a Joystick.
Zimmerdylan replied to FragBum's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
Oh.....I love the Huey. And I did love the Gazelle until that dead zone was put there. My problem lies in that I don't fly any one module exclusively. And if they change something in an update, my muscle memory is all out of whack. Rather than spend time retraining it, I'll just get aggravated that they couldn't leave well enough alone. I did however spend some time working with the Gazelle after the changes, but just lost interest. Sort of the same with the Mi8. People have had this issue with the auto pilot not staying engaged and I'm one of them. It's been this way for several updates now so I just tossed the Mi8 into the scrap heap. It seems that there are so many problems with the modules these days that there are only a few that I bother with. DCS has always had issues here and there but it's worse than it's ever been with no end in sight IMO. It's the main reason that I'm not purchasing any modules at this point. Why buy another bunch of bugs and problems? I did pre purchase the new map, but no more aircraft until I see progress on the old ones. -

Zimmerdylan replied to FragBum's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
I couldn't agree more! It's like there is a preset dead zone and once you cross it, the heli goes full tilt at that point. I lost interest in the Gazelle because of this issue. I have seen it talked about before and have mentioned it myself but nothing ever came of it. So I just assumed that this was the lay of the land and shelved the Gazelle. -
You are exactly right. The problem is that you cannot depend on a formation of any size to follow waypoints, drop bombs, or even fly at a given speed. You have better luck setting up each plane individually. Even then, I found myself running the mission after setting up each plane to make sure it worked correctly. I found that much of the time I would have to set it up multiple times to get it to work correctly. This is a major pain in the ass when you are trying to set up a carpet bombing mission. I have even had issues getting 3 or four B17's to just take off and meet up at a given point so that I can do formation flying. The altitude and speed never follows what I set it for. The assets pack with it's indestructible tanks that don't follow orders, limited inventory, and the other issues that seem to come with it is a bust at this point. I don't bother with it and would not recommend that anyone even purchase it until it gets up to even minimal standards.
