OH-6A by Tobsen and Eightball
Derbysieger replied to tobi's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
Understandable. Flying well requires minute control inputs and that is difficult. The FCS HOTAS should be decent enough to simply use a normal curve but with pedals where you can't remove the centering spring, precise and smooth adjustments become much more difficult to pull off and this is something that I have noticed with this helicopter - you have to be very smooth and precise. It's something I enjoy very much but I can't imagine doing with the spring attached. I think one or two hours of trial and error will be required to dial in the curve for the CH Pedals. For anyone who owns pedals where you can remove the spring a linear setup without a dead zone is exactly what I would recommend, even better if you have a hydraulic damper. -

I only use a slight curve on the cyclic (Warthog stick on a Virpil Mongoos T50CM3 base), around 8 or 9 IIRC, completely linear for the pedals but I have a damper and simply remove the spring from my Crosswinds whenever I fly helicopters. Works great for me, I can precisely maneuver the OH-6A in even the tightest of spaces -

I've had a lot of fun in this little helicopter the last days. Mostly just trying to fly it into the tiniest spaces and see whether it fits: -
Well wouldn't you know it the problem reared its ugly head again and I decided to look into it some more and it seems to have something to do with default A2A loadouts. This time it's the Marianas Map so no problems with other payware terrains. Apparently the "fix" for my Kola mission has more to do with using a different loadout than the fact that I placed completely new groups. On this map I used the A2A MEDIUM RANGE loadout with AIM-7E2's and AIM-9Ls as a standard for all F-4E spawns (see screenshot). I also placed an airstart F-4E ( called "*debug F-4") with the same loadout. Weirdly enough the tanks on this one appear to feed normally but for the cold start F-4s it doesn't. I have no idea what's going on maybe you can shed some light on it @Zabuzard For now I'll use a different loadout which fixes the problem. Mission is attached as well as a short track file. I got around to do some more testing and apparently all I have to do is rip out the groups that are affected and replace them with new ones. My guess is something got messed up after a patch or when saving this mission. It only affects a few select groups within the mission and not all of them so it's a pretty quick fix. Thanks anyway!

What I have noticed in my squadron is that people in VR just drive up to the tanker, plug in and then stay there until the tanks are full whereas the guys flying in 2D really struggle in the Phantom even though they can refuel other aircraft like the A-10C, F-16C or F-15E just fine. It's mostly about the canopy bow being absolutely massive in 2D and not being able to look across it even when adjusting the seat all the way up. I think you'll need to shift your camera position in the cockpit in addition to moving the seat all the way up. I can attest to Jester being very precise with his call outs. I have come to rely on him in situations where I can't see one or both of the PDL due to the sun. In this video he saved my butt when I was about to fall off at the 7:40 mark: https://youtu.be/oCn3vwt4U30?si=-m3CFciDw2F0ZpHK

How to win at BFM in the Mighty F-4E Phantom
Derbysieger replied to Victory205's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
For the MiG-29 AI: Full AB, just before the merge pull up in a climbing turn and get on her six. The AI can't handle that maneuver, pushes the nose down and then starts a lazy turn 5 tries, 5 times I shot her down after two turns. 4 kills with AIM 9, 1 gun kill. This obviously doesn't work against players but I though it was funny. -
If they are placed as client aircraft you can select the option "takeoff from ground" to freely place flyable aircraft around the map. like this, Jokkmokk in Sweden:

For me this doesn't always work. I recently did a ~1000 nautical mile flight around the map in the Viper: Bodø - Kiruna - North Cape - refueling over Kirkenes - Murmansk - Olenogorsk - Kola NPP - Rovaniemi and I was stuck at around 17fps after I landed, no matter what. I tried tabbing out, closed all other apps except for Task Manager and WMR - no dice.
-
I have this weird problem where it performs okay (35-50fps on the ground in Rovaniemi) when I don't use the F10 Map but as soon as I use the F10 map a few times performance plummets to something like 15-25fps on the ground around Rovaniemi or the Finnish road base. Other locations like Bodø still run absolutely fine, mostly around 50-60fps in VR. Only after restarting DCS will performance be back to playable levels.

VHF Frequencies use FM now instead of AM, that's why as far as I can tell Edit: Radio two uses the FM Band for all frequency ranges and I have not found a way to shange it back to AM, so yeah, as far as ingame comms are concerned the second radio is inop. -

fixed Authorization failure wipes out all settings for unauthorized modules
Derbysieger replied to some1's topic in General Bugs
Yup same issue here. This shouldn't be happening. I shouldn't have to redo all the settings whenever this happens. Every warbird will have Take Off Assist at 100% and the trim settings for helis are borked. -
Same issue here. I used this to get rid of the mask in order to stream DCS at a higher resolution and take screenshots without the need to crop afterwards. I would appreciate the option to disable the mask. Best would be an option in the VR settings of DCS but having the hmd.fx excluded from the integrity check would work just as well.

7800X3D, 7900X3D, 7950X3D..
Derbysieger replied to EightyDuce's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well you can reduce RAM usage by lowering your preload radius. I am also flying in VR (Reverb G2) and the Missions we run are pretty heavy on performance. The nice thing is that thanks to multithreading I get ~60fps at pretty high details on busy servers. On the other hand PvP focused servers with static ground targets like the PO WWII server take far less RAM (anywhere between 10GB to 36GB depending on how busy it is. The most obvious improvement going from 32GB to 64GB was that all stutters went away and loading times improved massively. -

For singleplayer it's fine but in large multiplayer missions I wouldn't want any less than 64GB. Especially if you're in the habit of having a browser with lots of tabs open in the background. I see ~45GB used by DCS on a regular basis when I am flying online, especially in scenarios like foothold where there's lots of units active at any time.
