I had linked it in post #9 but I guess it's no longer there...

Operation Bactria (MP COOP 14), Afghanistan CAS
Britchot replied to Habu23's topic in User Created Missions General
My wingman and I flew this mission the other night after a couple months of hiatus on my part. This has always been our go-to when we want entertaining and realistic scenarios. We were tasked from one IP to a target area and engaged an ambush after being directed by the JTAC. We killed everything we could see but the JTAC never spoke to us again. We went back to the IP and didn't get another call. We re-upped in another flight and went to another IP and were directed to an artillery strike. We took out the target and the JTAC never spoke to us after that initial engagement. We returned to the IP and were ignored, too. I did open it and save it for 1.2.7, I certainly look forward to the latest version as this single mission has given me days of enjoyment (not just hours ;) ) -
Yes, you can see the pointer with any NVG that is based on infrared light spectrum.

Jib summed up some of the negatives. I use VAC with the A-10C most of the time, so I'm used to the phrases that work and can say them without the computer getting it wrong. If I have an issue, I just say "Opt#" where the # is the F key that the menu shows in the upper right corner. I wouldn't be confident enough to shut off the captioning for the radio, though. It tends to mistake JTAC ("jay-tack") with AWACS ("eh-wacks") but it could be my enunciation. Whenever I fly the other aircraft, I use "Opt#" for nearly every radio command. Sure, I lose some immersion but I'm still not reaching for the keyboard. I also made "Goggles On" and "Goggles Off" commands to put my NVGs on and off so I didn't have to reach for those, either. IIRC VAC has a trial offer for 14 days, give it a shot along with Fish's profile. Take a look at his VAC Video thread for more insight.

I use VAC and Fish's profile, it's amazingly immersive! I highly recommend it.

This is the easiest way I've found to do it.

"On the Range" Tutorial Series featuring the A-10C
Britchot replied to Bunyap's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Great information put out in a simple manner. I love it when little details that have been either neglected or taken for granted are pointed out. This is a true tutorial for the layman. Myself and my wingman learned something from both this and the CBU tutorial, and we thought we were fairly proficient. Anxiously awaiting the tutorial on the IFFCC menu! -
Mine are the same, all A/C and Beta but we should get the manual and a t-shirt even if we didn't select something else. Like Luthier said, they're working on it, just know you're not alone.

Backer rewards page - seems incorrect
Britchot replied to kevman's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
My rewards page seems to be off, as well. From Kickstarter: This was then clarified to "$50 - Everything at the $40 level, plus a custom-designed project backer T-shirt, plus a spiral-bound copy of a complete aircraft manual for the plane of your choice," when discrepancies between the sidebar and the main body were determined and addressed here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/508681281/dcs-wwii-europe-1944/posts/597595?ref=activity I have 6 available flyables but my Rewards indicate 0. I'm assuming I should see at least 1 (choice of manual) or 2 (if you add the T-Shirt not as a default). I'm hoping it's related to Luthier's post and I'll keep my eye on it: -
Origins of callsigns can be quite entertaining, this one made me roll! :megalol:
-
I can see your point about labels and the F10 map, but mods to increase viewing distance over the default settings of the game aren't sacrificing realism. Short of having someone in CA calling and marking targets for you, though, sacrifices for enjoyment of the plane/simulator can be understood.

It's been a while but I seem to remember blowing a few tires on take-off.
-
I think it's funny how actual Warthog jockeys fly their planes with Sharpie modifications while patiently awaiting for the official update from the manufacturer but the flight sim community wants neat and tidy over realistic. I understand the need for aesthetically pleasing flight sims, however. After all, it is the second highest tier of Maslow's pyramid.

What are these markers on the IAS Gauge?
Britchot replied to BTTW-DratsaB's topic in Su-25 for DCS World
No one mentioned flap extension speed. Perhaps #1 is the max speed for landing flap deployment and #2 is for combat flaps without the risk of damage. The landing flap sounds reasonable but I'm skeptical of the combat flap theory. If I have a chance to test it out later, I will. -
Is there a proper technique to trimming?
Britchot replied to guitarxe's topic in Su-25 for DCS World
The fixed wing aircraft trim differently than the helos. What it sounds like is you're trimming how I do on the UH-1H. Aaron886 hit the nail on the head, without the control pressure, it's somewhat difficult to estimate. I'm just going to post to emphasize to use small increments until you get the desired attitude. This goes for yaw and roll as well. 1. Push forward on the stick to keep the aircraft level. 2. Trim nose down 1-3 "clicks" 3. Release the stick to neutral and evaluate the aircraft's attitude. 4. Repeat 1-3 as necessary. This goes the same for the A-10C, which you have to trim every time you release a bomb! -
Question about tutorials, both in-game and out
Britchot replied to guitarxe's topic in Su-25 for DCS World
Here's a great tutorial on the from Fish. I couldn't get my head wrapped around the lights until I watched him break it down. Here is the Dragon's training pack that I use. I edited the missions to add a pair of Su-25s in the weapons training but that's all. I also have A-10C, UH-1H, and Ka-50 (honestly haven't even sat in the cockpit yet), so it's my little playground. -
Question about tutorials, both in-game and out
Britchot replied to guitarxe's topic in Su-25 for DCS World
As far as tutorials, I watched all the ones from DCS on Youtube. That allowed me to rewind it if I needed. After that, I just set up one of Dragon's training packs and work my way into engagements little by little. Though most of my time in this sim is spent in 2-4 pilot co-ops or training flights, so I'm not going into many large scale engagements. -
Question about tutorials, both in-game and out
Britchot replied to guitarxe's topic in Su-25 for DCS World
The Su-25T is the SEAD package. The Su-25 does not have the ability to carry the necessary avionics. So the enemy air defenses should be taken care of in much of the same way as the A-10 scenario. I like to fly the Su-25 low and fast, which is good if I have an idea of the engagement zone. If it's all a mystery, I'll go in at the edge of the FLOT and try to spot movement and make attacks at as great of a distance as I can. -
Half complained before, now the other half has a valid argument. I'm just glad I can drop my "Russian Speech Mod" from my JSGME.

Unfortunately it's not modeled on my HOTAS

I also think Falcon was being sincere. We tend to label what we do in the simulator to what the role is in the real world without all the real world interaction. Flying ground attack sorties with friendly troops somewhere on the map feels like CAS but, as pointed out, it's outside the definition of CAS. I normally play with 1-3 others on one of our boxes and we run different roles. We tend to work in pairs of Su-25s or A-10Cs (comparatively cheating, really) with one spotting and the other one engaging like Enigma mentioned previously. We also run Combined Arms with a JTAC spotting targets with smoke for the Su-25s or all the bells and whistles with the A-10C, both of which is more CAS as defined.
