The Bf109K4 landing/takeoff thread is going to be hilarious when it comes out. Stuck my first landing with a just slightly bent strut but takeoffs involved a lot of burning grass.
-
There are some post on this already but yes it can be killed. Believe it or not I've killed more engines after I turned off the MW50 for some reason. Sometimes within seconds but this of coarse is after a long period of overheating.
-
Without trying to open a thread ... are the guns supposed to stop working when the engine dies? I know the guns are timed with the propeller but just wanted to make sure its not a bug.

The Dora is just awesome and incredible !!!
fastfreddie replied to Skulleader's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Found this to be pretty much the same for me so far. Took me much longer to get into a shooting position if I lost any kind of advantage but if I got in a lot of trouble I could just dive off and regain my altitude soon after. Deflection shooting is going to be more a spray and pray thing for awhile. I haven't been shot down by the AI P51 yet but its taking awhile for me to get positioned correctly behind the Mustang. The cannons make quick work (one kill was 57 rounds) but I imagine that against good human P51 pilots it will be a challenge to use them. -
First successful takeoff was in a instant mission .. in a blinding snowstorm lol. Atleast I was flying into it instead of a crosswind. I've made a few successful takeoffs now and found that if you just go full blast from the start with the stick pulled back and a little to the right is the best. One other tip that helped me was increasing the resistant in my Saitek rudder petals. I'd already reduced the saturation but she is pretty finicky with the rudder inputs until I changed the rudder itself. Just make sure to release the stick once you get into that 170-200 range and she should lift off pretty much after that.

Great idea. Of course I'd ask him if it was ok ... some vets are funny about that stuff.

I don't think its going to be a blowout one way or the other. I've only done a few dogfights so far but didn't discover any huge advantage over the P51 other than climb rate and firepower. Turn times seemed similar which could change with human players using the P51s flaps. P51s had much better visibility (already hate the bar above the pilots head in FW190) and it also seemed to have a better gunsight.

I've killed two engines already and one it record time from the beginning of startup (3 minutes and change). Messed around and hit the red MW50 tab on the left side and up she went. Killed another after I left it in the full throttle position(Start) with MW50 on in combat. It really didn't take long at all (less than nine minutes).

Go on! Upset me with your screenshots (as I'm still at work) ;)

Maybe crashing on takeoffs and landings but if you crash this thing while flying DCS should take your FW190 license away from you. Nowhere near the killer that the P51 could be with stalls. -
Share one license with someone but I don't think you can get a credit or anything else.

Yeah it would be great to hear more about the interview with Erich and his other thoughts about the Dora's capabilities vs other fighters (US, Brit, Russian) if they were given.

DCS:WWII Backer rewards is now under an upgrade
fastfreddie replied to taxman1's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I backed for $40 so I get 2 choices under the new program. To be honest I don't intend to buy all of the planes now and really don't have a lot of extra money at the moment. I was going to select the Fw190 and Bf109 as rewards but if we're going to be waiting weeks or whatever till they set it up I'd just like to know. -

It would be nice if they would let us know before the pre-purchase discount goes away if they are going to have something worked out with backer rewards. I would probably go ahead with a purchase on this one and select something like the P47 for a reward if its going to be awhile. -

Got a question Sith. If I go ahead and preorder the FW190 do I get $10 bonus bucks to use on say the F86? I may go ahead and purchase the FW190 if this is the case because they still don't have the backers section ready. -
[REPORTED] Fw 190 Cockpit Bar! (answer Post #173)
fastfreddie replied to Krupi's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Hopefully we're zooming around in 109s by the time you get your awful british aircraft. :music_whistling: -
Can't wait to try it but why would anyone not want the F86 to begin with. It was one of the last real dogfighters and enjoyed a 10 to 1 kill ration in Korea. Simple compared to other jets/helicopters in DCS and my only reservation to getting it is I don't want to fly against mig ai for the next two years. Things are looking up and with Edge coming out the DCS market is going to be flooded with planes. Hopefully the Mig15 is one of them.

Just checked the P51vsFW190 mission on the single player and yes it has been changed. It didn't even fire in the head on or at all for that matter. Took less than 50 rounds to bring it down and was pretty easy compared to the old Ai 190. P51 does shake now when firing the .50s and now you have pilot breathing modeled in the mustang. May have to hop onto the DOW server to see if DavidRed is easier to bring down now too. :smartass:

Thanks worked for me. Never had a problem before with updates.
-
Never thought I would buy this but now .... I think this is perhaps the route ED should of went in the fast jet department in the beginning.
-
I've put in close to 200 rounds into one before without it going down and it can be frustrating. The quickest I've brought one down was like 54 rounds but we'll see what changes are made with the Dora release.
-
I'd imagine it will be like the mission set from P51 with most training missions until some of the other features are finished (B17, map, ground units, other planes). Otherwise it would generally just contain ground attack missions against more modern ground targets or air combat with the P51 as its the only other completed module.

So he had to stick his head out the window to land this right. Did this involve some form of standing while landing? No way could he see anything out that cockpit window.
-
Honestly flying almost anything in the German airforce this late in the war was pretty close to suicidal. Poor training, greatly outnumbered, and lack of supplies gave pilots that actually engaged the enemy very poor odds. As far as all this bs about which fuel or plane type. Hopefully ED models what was the most common model or realistic choice of fuel, armament, and engine type available to planes at the time. This isn't War Thunder where every plane that may have ever been conceived is thrown in the mix. To be honest I was surprised we weren't getting a G series Bf109.

What to do while waiting for the 190D-9?
fastfreddie replied to gavagai's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
They should be tracking down all the WWii vets they can on all possible crafts that could be included. I can ask my stepfathers dad any questions they would have for a B24 rear gunner while he's still around (hint, hint). He'll be 90 in September but that generation is fading quickly. He's the last person left from his crew. To be honest ground crew could provide some great information about the availability and functions of a lot of craft. -
I basically loaded up a simple mission and kept changing my levels till I found a place where it stalled and I was comfortable with it. Different joysticks and players mean it should be different for most of us. I know that I really toned down the rudder because slight inputs were almost impossible with original settings. There should be a difference in settings in the FW190 vs P51 settings also.
