  1. No interest for me but that goes the same for other trainers also. TBH if you can't take off in the P-51 you've got no prayer in the Dora/K-4 and we already have a free trainer for that. Most of the people who complain or have trouble with takeoffs have either not practiced enough, read enough, or don't have the proper devices(rudders). Adding another trainer prop isn't going to get those people to do the correct things to be successful in the Dora. It may please some of the joyride unarmed server crowds or flight enthusiast who will buy everything but most of us that buy WWII planes do so for the combat element. If they ever made a FW189 which would be a great twin engine plane with its high visibility/slow speed but it did provide a combat function ... I'd buy that in a heartbeat. It also saw use at the end of the war as a trainer but I doubt it will ever get made.
  2. Check their playlist but they have more not listed on it. I haven't watched this one yet but he was a FW190/ME262 pilot.
  3. This guy was the only know US Navy pilot to shoot down a German and Japanese plane.
  4. I've seen the one with Gunther Rall. There are dozens of videos with many US pilots in different planes. There are plenty of these videos by this museum and they are interviewing whatever pilots they can before they are all gone. They had a hour and half interview with Bud Anderson.
  5. As far as I know Meteors never saw air to air action against any airplanes. They shot up some aircraft on the ground but by the time they hit the air over Germany it was over.
  6. There are many videos with US pilots and some with British but I haven't found alot of German, Japanese, or Russian pilot videos yet.
  7. I think you will find the taxes are much higher than $114 per year. It will be closer to $1200 for your standard 2-3 bedroom house in most areas unless you're moving to a trailer in the middle of methville. We had all kinds of people moving to the Nashville area from Chicago, New York State, New Jersey, etc for pretty much the reason your stating. Why drop $5000 in property taxes especially if your retiring or getting close when you can live in a nicer house for a lower cost of living.
  8. Check out the San Diego Air and Space Museum on youtube. They have been interviewing pilots from WWII, Korea, and Vietnam in all kinds of airframes. The guy that does the interviews is an ex airforce pilot so most things get covered very well. The stories the pilots tell about the crazy or stupid stuff going on is always the best.
  9. Old age and probably the fact that they never really needed to do stuff like that unless ... your landing in your wingmans backyard. :) Reminded me of the story a P-51 ace told in an interview about missing Operation Bodenplatte. He went for a joyride with his wingman through the mountains and when he returned everyone asked how many he shot down. He missed everything and never told anyone till many years later.
  10. Isn't there an auto-start command for anyone wishing to speed through it? I've created one ground attack mission where the Dora's were preloaded with bombs and running because realistically they would be loaded in advanced to begin with in real life. I did it that way so groups could easily takeoff together and keep formation if they like. I really don't care either way but I've seen people try to fly online without any basic understanding of the functions of their plane and atleast requiring startup forces them to learn that portion of the aircraft.
  11. Yeah I always liked Killers Bees, the snow mission on the shore, and the 3 lakes mission. Could always find targets ... I mean other players or you could shoot up stuff on the ground when no one was around. Some complained about flight time on the three lakes mission but about the time I reached my usual combat altitude I was in the prime areas. TBH no missions are really going to satisfy most DCS flyers until visually cues are fixed and we get some WWII ground/bomber units. You either get crap missions where everyone is launched from airfields that you can see each other from the ground, labels which are the worst, or larger missions where its very hard to find small groups of players.
  12. Startup options: Cold start preferred but depends on mission Map Settings: No Icons visibility aids: None Required time to find combat: 10-15 minutes Objectives: simple objectives that require ground attack. Complicated objectives will only be viable (IMHO) when (or if) bombers eventually become available Weather: good flying weather AI aircraft: Only on empty servers or greatly unbalanced teams TS availability: Would be nice but not necessary
  13. Wow horrible news. Sorry I haven't been able to fly very much recently but I looked for the DOW server the last 2 days and now I see why I can't find it. Hopefully you guys decide to bring the server back soon with all the new aircraft coming out. DoW was the go to stateside server to fly on and the Euro servers are usually empty late at night here. This is really going to kill the DCS WWII experience for US players unless ED steps in with public servers.
  14. I'd take off the US6 Studebaker since almost all of them went to Russia. I'm sure we won't need more than one US transport vehicle but the rest of the list looks good.
  15. Twist throttle? I thought the twist rudder crowd had it bad ... minister of finance needs to give you an allowance or a one time grant for some new sim equipment lol.
  16. Talking about the flight modeling not the exterior modeling itself which Sith said they had the data for both. Surprised to see that they are modeling the clipped version to start with because it has better flight performance than the standard wing. It was pretty clear that most wanted the standard wing spitfire but is its performance that much worse than the clipped that it wouldn't fit into the late 44/early 45 period?
  17. Kinda expected this one to be non clipped ... a little surprised to see this spitfire being done this way. Not a huge spitfire fan either way but maybe they've had issues with the standard versions info or modeling it correctly for DCS. Its been almost 7 months since we've seen a new WWII module and even the Spitfire would help with this itch I'm developing. Was REALLY hoping for the P-47 very soon.
  18. So has the Spitfire been moved ahead of the P-47 in terms of release now with the new newsletter?
  19. Add K-4, Dora, etc so we can see if the gun smoke bug is gone.
  20. Well you can add the K-4 and Mustang now for $20. :pilotfly:
  21. Dora or Mustang but you will probably end up buying them all in time anyways.
  22. Agreed. Love the fixed sights for deflection shots but the gyro for level or shallow dives on targets. Unfortunately I don't think the gyro adjustments are currently working or make any difference.
  23. I'll have the find the video but one Mustang pilot said they would have a part of the belt (10 rounds or so) near the end that was straight tracers to give them an indication that they were about out of ammo. I doubt that DCS will go that in depth but it would be nice for P-51/P47 pilots.
  24. F4U-1 would be my personal choice which ever version and would be a good fit in if we ever saw any mid war Japanese designs in DCS. Someone could clip the wings for a Brit version!
  25. I've probably taken off several hundred times in the Dora by now but sometimes I won't be focusing on the takeoff and something will get out of hand pretty quickly. I think I've taken off and landed every plane successfully that I've gotten in DCS the first time but get around the 4th time (getting comfortable) something goes wrong. You have to keep your concentration and focus almost 100% of the time with the Dora/K4 or they will kill you. If you got a hotas I'd suggest mapping the landing gear, flaps, and auto gov(K-4) so you don't have to mess with those functions on takeoff/landings.
