  1. With having a small community it is very easy to pick out stand out tactics that some use, you will see this on a regular basis in servers and be able to recognise profiles of the individuals you're facing. A majority of experienced players use altitude and speed to be able to maintain an advantage over opponents for surprise and escape. Knowing which players like to do this and comparing with your list of opponents its not hard to highlight the likely guy in the spaceship. I think I can safely say everyone on the Red team could tell when Microvax was coming but on occasion not all saw him coming.
  2. Yep they need to fix the win button. :D
  3. The internal wiring in my X55 throttle also sliced which is a common problem, the design of this HOTAS both internally and control ergonomics is poor, something akin to unskilled workmanship. But I still purchased an X56 as replacement because it is probably the best twist stick out there.
  4. Why are you going against F-14 Tomcats? That is one of the toughest AI opponents in the sim. If you're learning the basics then set up the basics, go up against MiG21s, F-5s, F-4s or MiG-23s then work your way up to tougher opponents like M2000/MiG29/Su27 >MiG31/Su30/F-15/16/18/14s.
  5. I agree with you Microvax and most here on their view on why no kill messages but sometimes fear is a weapon and so is morale, take down a feared opponent and morale goes up, seeing your fighters getting done by a known F/A-10 pilot and fear ensues. For me it adds immersion and rivalry within the community rather than just another black trail in the sky or fighter rushing past my parachute, was that AI, does it matter. At the end of the day we're not doing this for the sake of our country and futures we're doing this for enjoyment with and against others, I like to know who that pilot is that gave me a good fight or wrecked my base, buddies and high tailed it home. There was a time in Blue Flag were awards were given for the guys that drove their team on or instilled fear in your team, everyone voted on this and much respect was given, those days were more enjoyable.
  6. TWS2 works but is a very poor in comparison to the F-15s TWS, locking is a process of waiting for auto acquisitions to occur (not as quick or efficient as designating with a TD) then if the target is jamming the lock drops and TWS resets back to normal scan mode, even at burn through. After all that you don't get the benefit of TWS not giving launch warnings, a lock or launch in TWS2 alerts the target in the same way an STT lock does. TWS2 can have its uses but is basically more trouble than it is worth.
  7. As GG says, head on example you launch at 30km give 30seconds to impact, not accurate but easy conversion.
  8. http://pwencycl.kgbudge.com/R/e/Reconnaissance.htm An F-15 at over 60' in length can be seen from 35nmi using the site above while head on this would be below 10nmi. I'm not sure on how true this is but if people with rl experience state similair then there must be something right there but 35nmi seems a bit much in my inexperienced opinion. The problem with DCS is there is no distinction between aspect at those ranges plus the previously used imposter method would allow you to id an aircraft type from impossible ranges such as 30nmi all while appearing only 5nmi in front of you (depending on imposter size setting), total immersion killer. The biggest problem with visuals in DCS has always been within the 5nmi range where the lod either shrinks or disappears, this was still a problem with the imposter method as the imposter only rendered outside this range. This imo is what ED need to concentrate on.
  9. Great video Esonub, congrats to you and the rest of the winners.
  10. Probably not because when that day comes everybody will be flying DCS F22. :)
  11. You should have no worries Shadow, you stepped up and took on the toughest task in the these events. Having you there was better than not, I think you helped many out, thanks for that. These events give us the opportunity to learn and improve and besides having tons of fun learning is what it's about. Great to hear you're already planning on what to do to make it better for yourself, i'd advise as Air boss to be a constant voice on guard, don't wait to be asked make it your job to be the boss man, controlling the fight, constantly keep groups informed on bandit references, friendly references but most importantly as you see fit. But don't get too engrossed and try and micro manage. You have the big picture so control your guys and keep them supporting each other, remember the more info you can give these guys on bandits and friendlies the more their situational awareness grows. Yesterday felt a bit of a rush, I think the SR set up messed a few peoples heads up and i'm sure this rush and disorganistion affected most yourself including, I think you have a good understanding of what to do next it's just a case of imposing yourself on Guard and realising how crucial continued calls are. Being a great Air Boss is about having a good tactical understanding of the airframes involved and toeing a fine line between being firm and direct but considerate for the flights own comms, stray too far either way and things don't go so well. Thanks for your efforts yesterday Shadow it was much appreciated.
  12. This is the difference between AI jamming and player jamming, it has been this way in alpha, beta and release for some time. The AI only activates its jammer when you attempt a lock which then breaks your lock.
  13. If you don't have a radar suitable for identifying threats then you really should be using gci, getting cap, a buddy or staying away from threats. Harriers, A10s and Su25s etc. are not A2A platforms. If you visually spot an aircraft within your vicinity that you can't determine then you treat it as hostile and have to decide whether to run for cover or get in close to visual id aircraft colour in this instance. Mirages were brown or blue and this should be brought back, it's not easy but still possible, this is the gauntlet you choose when you enter the combat area without CAP, GCI or even a buddy. DCS is made easy to spot contacts from ridiculous ranges allowing non radar aircraft to home in on the contact until you can recognise the type of aircraft, this in my opinion is utter bollocks but is how so many Harrier, F5, MiG21, Viggen, A10 and Su25 pilots get their kills.
  14. I think the skins need looking at, they used to be separated by sides, now I think they've become forgotten. For example Mirage and Viggen have same skins for Red and Blue as far as I can tell.

  18. Nice job, really well presented and full of a lot of valuable info.
  19. It's very poor, seeing dots from beyond visual range and combining that with worse visibility within visual range makes the whole bvr, wvr business a nonsense. Great if you're flying MiG21s, F5s, AV8s etc. but only great because it makes it easier for you by allowing you to bypass realism in your quest to find targets. This is then amplified by how p.poor bvr missiles are.
  20. Absolutely agree here, the Harrier following on from the M2000 for me puts you up there as one of leading 3rd party developers, on par with the LN/HB team and Belsimtek. Looking forward to more of the same from Razbam. Thanks.
  21. You can shoot AI fighters down with a P51, no viffing needed. Viffing as a last ditch maneuver to maybe force an overshoot is effective but bleeding your airspeed is not ideal. Sea Harrier pilots were notoriously some of the best dogfighters around in mock engagements and as far as i'm aware they didn't Viff.
  22. Yes a lives system would do wonders. Just flown there last night, great server fantastic mission but the single fighter type at each airbase is a bit non team focused, almost forcing you to fly solo. It could do with having several of each main fighter and Striker based at critical bases such as Anapa and Vaziani this would give a bit of incentive to fly a proper cap or cas over long distance, less spam, more team work. As it is now it is an airquake for solo ground pounders constantly spamming the enemy base from next door with AGM and ARM, dieing rinse and repeat until closure.
  23. Don't try and micro manage the AI just tell the flight to 'engage bandits'. In this mission there is a second flight of Su27s that take off from Mozdok also, don't start taxiing until these guys get on the runway that way you can follow them and create an 8 ship of Flankers. Stay behind the 2nd flight at about 5-10km then when any bandits get within 80km hit the burners and take your flight marginally offset to the left or right and attack the flank supporting the 2nd flight, tell your guys to engage bandits and let them get ahead of you then you look for close trailers that the AI may not shoot at, if bandits turn cold don't give chase, switch to another. Prioritise your life over the AI so don't try and get deep in the fight, if you end up in the furball periodically drop flares. I came home with a 3 ship and the other flight a 2 ship so we nailed those suckers. :D
  24. The most likely guys getting killed by Mavericks, Vikhrs. Rb05s and KH66s are strikers concentrating on ground pounding other than that you've got to be really unaware and wearing blinkers ie. super green.
  25. ACS is the autopilot system.
