The only really difference is the rear fuel tank which in modern mustangs is not allowed to be used. In most modern Mustangs it's been removed entirely and those that still have it are prohibited from using it as it makes the aircraft dangerously unstable. Aside from that the aircraft will turn as it will turn, it flies as it will fly Combat or aero makes no difference to the aerodynamic properties of the airframe

Just to backup Sithspawn here, I have watched 7 real Mustang pilots including the Horsemen fly DCS-P51 and they havent been able to fault it (bar Dan with the rudder which is more a setting and our flimsy equipment compared to a real set of rudder pedals) I cant imagine that many WW2 pilots who would be interested in it being quite frank. Anyone who says that these guys' opinion isnt valid just isnt worth listening too really. Show me someone MORE qualified to talk about the P-51 then the display pilots at Duxford or the Bremont Horsemen and I will listen to it. Until then its just hot air from people who cant fly DCS P-51 therefore the sim is wrong as they are Ace pilots quite obviously

haha so basically what your saying is that you have problems with it and need it changed? Just accept it mate that even with modern harness's (Bear in mind I have tried 3 different mustangs with modern kit as they are airworthy examples!) you cant see diddley squat out of the front of the stang and I can actually look down the nose of my stand in DCS and see down the front So the really REALLY funny thing about your silly rant is that you can actually do what you are whining about anyway....

Someone with their head screwed on Oh and to answer an earlier point im 5ft 8 and I had a 6ft guy with us, still struggling to actually see anything useful out of the front from a strapped in position. Personally I think the OP just struggles taxi'ing and wants an easy solution. You seem to be the only one who thinks this is incorrect...

Nice vids :D

It wouldnt improve the reality as I can tell you from first hand experience that even leaning as best you can when strapped in that you cant see anything over the nose. Improving it would make it LESS realistic

Yeah alot of people do quit when the servers crash and they dont know whats going on. Our server does crash but it auto recovers after 3 minutes so it will 99% of the time come back quick. Personally I like as many people to be in teamspeak as possible :) Pman

Having sat in a number of Mustangs I can say that there is no way sitting in one I could lean out of the cockpit (either in the front or back) to be able to see effectively without pretty much standing on the floor and being unstrapped.

Our TS normally has up to 25 people on it on the weekends. I dont think this is something that VA would participate in. Pman

I know of a couple of things that are being worked on for the P-51D I am not sure how many are public knowledge so please forgive me for not being specific. But rest assured Merlin there are refinements coming for the Pony :) -
Your workload never ceases to amaze me mate. Look forward to seeing it in action

Just going by what I was told :) It may have changed since July but I can only go by what I was told :)

Exactly that  There is quite often a number of experienced formation pilots on/around the TS server or in game. We are fortunate that we have reps from a number of the big teams flying with us on a regular basis :)

There is a dedicated server side due to tbe launched with EDGE, but it will not work with the old map/GE The VA server does well in my opinion as does Frostie with the 51st but its alot of work to maintain these servers in this condition that is very true. Pman

It was on a list, Razbam maybe?

Hey Guys, When I first started in the Mustang it was a handful to fly even to the point that I would swear it was impossible to land. As with Rock I was with the pilots from the Horsemen as well as Steve Hinton Jnr and they loved the Sim, I have spoken with Nick Grey quite a few times about DCS P-51D and every time he expresses how close it is to the handling of the real aircraft. As has been pointed out we do alot of very close formation work with the Mustang, something we wouldn't be able to do if the sim really is as unstable as they claim. Personally I put their reaction down to armchair pilots and lack of experience, DCS Mustang is another level entirely when compared to FSX and IL2. Neither of which model a true flight model. I currently use the TM Warthog and have a curve of 31 and rudder of 23 on Saitek pro line pedals. If that helps :) It just takes alot of practice, but when you do "get it" you will wonder what all the fuss was about. Pman Virtual Horsemen #2 - Right Wing

We strongly encourage anyone who wants to fly formation to join our teamspeak :) Generally there are a number of people there and if you ask you will normally find someone to practice formation stuff with :) Pman

Hey Guys, Our server exhibits the same pattern as ENO and Frostie describe, if we ever have a quiet period (>5 but <16) pilots then the server stays up fine and cycles its missions, if we have consistently more than 20 people in there then it does crash. There really isnt alot we can do about it, lowering the player limit to 12 people defeats the purpose of the VA server, to bring as many people together as possible. In 1.2.4 we had regularly over 30 people in the server and zero crashes, its something thats been done to the game to introduce these errors. We have a system on the VA server now where if it crashes it will auto recovery in about 3 minutes (Frostie did you get that working for you by the way?) Most of our regular pilots know this and go make a coffee for 3 minutes if it crashes then come straight back :) Pman

Great time was had this evening chatting on Teamspeak and saying Hi to people in chat for some of the arrivals! Look forward to speaking to more of you when VFAT arrives! Stay tuned for news on prizes that YOU could win during the livestream of VFAT!

I agree lets keep it on topic, Crashes in 1.2.6 Update 3. I have provided you with everything that you need to report this as is the point of this section of the forum. If you want me to spend the time trying to figure out why the sim crashes why ask for crash logs and dumps? Although I appreciate that nothing in computer coding is truly random there is some degree of back end knowledge required that unless you work directly with the code members of the public will not have. If you need more detailed information then I'd suggest that something is added to Mantis asking for more detailed error reports to be exported from DCS upon a crash. I acknowledge that there has been some great work done by Eno, Frostie and the other server admins regarding combat problems which are more easily replicated (errors with Su25 weaponary for example) however in a free flight server its not as easy to reproduce and should actually indicate a more basic flaw in the code somewhere as the complications of weapons and AI units is removed from the scenario. If you need any more information from my server then let me know Pman
