Hook's UH-1H M-134 Damage Tweak
Hook47 replied to Hook47's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
To those who may be using this mod- with EDs decision to encrypt LAU files needed to make user mods like this, this mod will be depreciated as of version 2.7... -
Looking awesome, Duke! I didn't realize that little 339 could pack so much of a punch!

Awesome work, thank you for all the time you guys put into this!

Gazelle door gunner - no AI panel or settings?
Hook47 replied to Warmbrak's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
The Gazelle minigun didn't have AI because when it originally released a number of years ago, it had totally functional multicrew. That is now a thing of the past, and Polychop seems to have depreciated any active support of multicrew functions. They have said a few times that once ED rolled out multicrew they would fix it, but that is yet to be seen. Sadly the Gazelle is in pretty bad shape and I wouldn't hold out too much hope for the addition of Gunner AI anytime soon. I hope Polychop will revisit this bird and make it as good as it used to be, but right now they are totally focused on this OH-58 project. -
The M-2000C is great! Worth every penny IMO. Isn't perfect but it is functional and enjoyable.

Has the minigun damage been nerfed in the latest openbeta ?
Hook47 replied to Shadow KT's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Hey fellas, I have made a mod that corrects this issue for the time being. Just wanted to leave the link in case anyone was still following this topic. -
Hey fellas, Having real trigger time on the M-134, I believe it's damage capability in DCS is not fully realized in the sim. I'm sure ED will eventually tweak this, however I have created a simple mod to fix this issue for the time being. Remember that I can only use ballistic values provided in DCS, so while it may seem the weapon hits too hard in some situations, bear in mind the real M-134 is quite destructive, and is hitting above the normal weight of the 7.62x51 NATO due to the volume of projectiles and it's ability to mission kill components of even light armored vehicles. The up shot is infantry will be decimated by the M-134 now, which is exactly how it plays out in real life.... Trust me on this! INSTALLATION: Simply copy the attached folder to your DCS World or DCS World Open Beta/Scripts/Database/Weapons directory, and allow overwrite. You may want to consider OVGME if you want to be able to restore your sim version later! This will not pass integrity check... sorry! I will upload an OVGME version soon! Enjoy! -Hook shell_table.lua

ED knocked it out of the park. In all honesty they surpassed Heatblur in their implementation, and proved a lot of the skeptics wrong with how a shared cockpit can be handled... That is saying a lot because HB paved the way on solid multicrew. I certainly hope this means Polychop will implement this in the Kiowa and fix that long borked Gazelle multicrew. Sort of a big deal for me as far as buying the Kiowa goes, I can't envision me having much time for a single crew bird when there are a few great multicrew offerings in the Huey and Hind. I get too much joy out of flying multicrew with friends.

Yea... I know... Comment made tongue in cheek...
-
I've been around a lot of Apaches in my time and I've never seen a cockpit in as nice shape as that second picture!

*Note to mods- sorry, after posting I realized this may belong in the Chit Chat section... Feel free to move it if that would be better!

Ah yes... This thing and it's weird a$$ voice LOL. It is about the only annunciator that can out annoy the one in the JF 17! Useful video, nice find. Hadn't heard this in years.

Just found this particular thread, k just want to say DAY ONE buy for this guy... You guys did an amazing job following through with the 101 (in spite of some dark times) and the Mirage F1 looks Heatblur level quality (which is high praise) Hope you guys have a great Christmas, can't wait to give you money!

Your commitment to this aircraft is phenomenal, you can count me in on the next product from you guys!

Hook47 replied to Shadow KT's topic in DCS: UH-1H
The impact of a 7.62x51 against a SAPI plate won't kill hardly anyone... It usually won't knock anyone around either. Speaking from my own experience with a body armor hit of a 7.62x54R, you know you got hit, and it scares the $$$$ out of you, but generally the impact itself may bruise at the worst. Those plates absorb a lot of shock. The reason the body armor is a non issue where the M-134 is involved is again, sheer number of projectiles. 1 or 2 hits against a SAPI plate generally wont defeat the body armor, but we are talking hundreds in a matter of seconds (or second, really...) so the body armor quickly becomes a non issue. It's about like wearing one of those reflective PT belts the military issues while getting hit by a bus- sure it may have made the end user feel better prior to s%%% getting real, but it made no real difference. @BaD CrC Glad my 2 cents worth was of value to you, sir! The M-134 can do many roles in real life, so you could argue suppression is a very real effect on the target (I have literally seen enemy combatants drop their gear and run at the sight of a 134 raining hell in their approximate area) however the weapons intended purpose is soft target destruction, and it is one of the most effective intermediate caliber weapons in the entire US Militaries inventory for that role. I can tell you (again from first hand experience) that anything aside from an armored vehicle will be totally annihilated by the M-134, and even the occupants of a light armored vehicle will be having a bad day, as the 134 is wonderful at dumping hot lead at something until some of that finds a critical component and breaks it. I didn't do this personally, but I know of a guy who took down a BTR IFV with a M-134. It was mission killed after the 134 ripped its wheels and other components to oblivion. Hopefully ED will buff this weapons use against infantry, because it's anti personnel effect in the real world cannot be understated... You do not want to be on the end of this puppy, and if you are you will not be around to tell the tale! -

I have zero issues hooking up in the Jeff. One of the reasons is probably because I fly in VR and use a control stick that has a real world pitch throw (it's extended to length that is approximate to many real fighter aircraft). I'd consider looking into adjusting pitch curves a bit to see if that helps. There are just so many HOTAS systems out there, at such a wide price point, it can be tricky to get the feel of the aircraft right for everyone without tweaking.

Who will win the race between the Mi-24 and the OH-58?
Hook47 replied to Razorback's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
Don't think 2020 turned out the way anyone expected, so delays are definitely understandable this year of all years! I think Rotorheads will be in for a treat in 21! -

Hook47 replied to Razorback's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
If I had to choose between the two, I'd have to pick the Hind, just because I suspect EDs module will show up more polished. Like some others have expressed, I need to see the Gazelle get some patching along with implementation of multicrew in the Kiowa to sell me on that module. Personally I think we may see the Kiowa first, but the Hind will probably release in a more complete state (multicrew, more bug free, etc). -

Hook47 replied to Shadow KT's topic in DCS: UH-1H
It has been this way for awhile now. The 7.62x51 NATO round is reliably leathal up to around 900-1100 meters (based on my rather unforunate real world experiences). Having been a real world M-134 shooter, I can tell you that if that thing hits anywhere near you at anything less than 1200 meters, it is all she wrote. Reason being is fragmentation and sheer amount of projectiles will overcome any body armor worn by the target. NATO SAPI body armor plates currently in use by the U.S. Armed forces will generally stop maybe one or two direct hits from a 7.62, but if you get tagged by the 134 your definitely getting hit more than once or twice! -
If you don't like how the Shark flies, you wouldn't like the KA 52 either. The MI 28 also uses similar autopilot channels to my knowledge, however it's very unlikely they could get authorization to make that aircraft. I think you should give the Shark some more time. The MI 8, KA 50 and the upcoming MI 24 all share similar stability augmentation systems and they have come common traits in how they fly, with the KA 50 being a bit more advanced than the Hind or Hip (if I understand correctly). The Shark is one of my favorite helicopters to fly, but it took me a good few hours of commitment to begin to understand and appreciate it's control system. Make sure you understand how the force trim works, and that you have the correct autopilot channels enabled. Have you flown the Hip at all? If you want to do anything to prepare yourself for how the Hind will fly then the Hip is the best possible starting point. I'll wager, just based on what I've heard from real world pilots who have flown the Hind, that the KA 50 will be a bit more pilot friendly than the Hind when it comes to flying characteristics. IMO the Shark is one of the best flying helicopters in the sim once you've learned it.

The Viggen is a good example of a module that has made an optical sight work convincingly in 2D and VR. Best case I hope ED will make the sight work as per real world, in that you have to move your head to it and use the sight while in VR at least. A keybinding to bring up a full screen sight would be a great alternative to those flying in 2D who have less control over their head movements, or even a scripted view movement to the sight like the MiG 19. A combination of all of the above would be best IMHO.

Gotta add my vote on this too. Load outs that are technically possible, even if not often done in real world should definitely be OK in DCS. Example is the A-10C ability to carry the times 3 AGM 65 racks. Doable in real life even though it usually isn't done in practice. This added a LOT to the aircraft and I really miss it.
