  1. Makes me wonder if because of the chip markets being what they are that optimizing the core DCS program will become more front and center. I have read about the push to make the game use multiple threads and better use of hardware other than the GPU, so something is being done. No one knows when these improvements will be completed but the version numbers for DCS is getting close to 3.0! They just announced the roadmap for the Viper this year. However I have seen many posts recently about people quitting the game for awhile due to frustration. So maybe this needs to be a priority. As for chip shortages too many people in too many industries are suffering. Automakers have stock sitting in fields because they cant get the electronics for their cars to run. All eggs are in one basket in Korea and Taiwan, the industry will wake up and build more plants to cover the demand. (Or will civilization begin a slide backwards?) Still this shortage will be here for a couple more years. Crypto mining is going cooling off since China is cracking down and the billionaires have made their investments. Because so I can actually buy a 30XX card, for stupid money, so no thanks. I often wonder if the price for 30xx cards do come down, do I buy one or wait for for the RTX 40XX. The NVIDIA 30 series is half way through its cycle (Based on prior releases like the 20 series in Sept 2018. Will there be an announcement of the 40 series next spring?
  2. Saw a video on the modern version of the 15C and yes no need for the FC3 Version. However, the A10A cockpit is so analogue. Yes I would pay for an upgraded cockpit. However like it was said let see what happens with the Mig 29 FC3 model.
  3. Can combined arms be improved? Yes absolutely!! This is probably the third or fourth thread addressing this? What changes are you proposing here? So far I have read... Making all vehicles derivable with realistic interiors, including gunner/turret positions. I wonder how that will work on ships/ Subs. Making DCS more like a First person shooter COD or Arma ( I never played Arma so not sure what I am talking about.) DCS with payable modules such as M1 Abrams (fully modeled interior and systems like the planes) There are probably others I am missing, So what does this survey propose? I do spend time in DCS, simple missions like escorting a supply convoy, or just blowing stuff up. Nothing major like an entire battle front, more grand theft auto than anything serious, just for fun. I even use an Xbox controller in third person view to drive the vehicles. Unfortunately you cant use the turret unless your first person in the machine. (Bug?) I don't feel like you can command any large armor movements efficiently given the current interface. How many times do I discover that a group of assets is under attack by chance no notification that a group is under fire, or direction of where the fire is coming from. The AI has no effective defensive tactics. Like popping smoke when an enemy is shooting at you? How do I take command of naval assets, and set up formations, sub hunting, etc? I feel that a good command interface for DCS would be something like HARPOON. However since that game is decades old the potential to make DCS way better is a reality. They have inventories for warehouses and airfields! DCS has the potential to simulate strategic and logistical elements of the battlefield as well as front line elements. Yet another thread mentioned the implementation of ELINT and EW in DCS. Eagle could make something that is a learning asset at West Point. Would I buy such a module. (HARPOON interface and functionality) Yes. Would I buy each Tank or APC as a separate more immersive asset? (Maybe) Probably not every Tank or APC but talk to me what does that offer vs the standard Combined arms models. We all have our favorites after all. First Person Shooter (FPS) I don't know, (Probably not) you wont be able to clear buildings given the current environment (LOD of current buildings in game) and I don't think they should, DCS is not that game. I could be fun to be a soldier fighting block to block clearing a path or defending an urban area but again the Level of detail will be a constant discussion; this isn't Call of Duty after all. My 2 cents
  4. I have an Xbox controller set up for driving vehicals in Combined Arms and yes having trouble controlling the turret in Isometric view. Even the default keybinding Numpad 5 will not rotate the turret back to default. All of these functions do work in in F1 view just fine. I like playing Combined arms in 3rd person but alas cannot. I believe there is a lot to "Fix" or improve in combined arms. Someday.
  5. After watching this video I want an F15 C with a dynamic cockpit even more. Looks like the "C version" in this video has more glass then in DCS. Notice the DCS reference in 6:41. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zikI2fazPLo
  6. Looks like I will need a steering wheel and pedals in addition to my warthog HOTAS. Time for some GTA DCS!
  7. Maybe I am doing something wrong and this can be a simple fix. Decided to drive around in some armor in DCS 2.7 on the Syria map to check out the scenery. To my surprise a lot of the controls that I used to have are now gone. The Drivers view is now under the vehicle see attached, and you cannot move the turret in the exterior view. Turret controls are only in the Gunners view. I also cannot get key binds or axis commands assigned to the mouse. Any advice would be helpful. I am afraid my combined arms module is not playable until an update. Vehicles are very difficult to drive and you almost have no situational awareness.
  8. Where were you able to order this? Everything has been out of stock for months.
  9. So where did these screen Shots come from?
  10. So how are you able to zoom all the way out to see all this area in the mission editor? I have flown to these areas but cannot see them in the mission editor. Can you place units and way-points there? Also, why is there so much map out of the "playable area" are there plans to model all of Egypt and the remainder of Israel. I did fly to the edge of the map in Nevada, the 3d Terrain stops at Lake Tahoe, the sat imagery for Reno is there and looks OK from altitude. Also flew to San Francisco in and you could see a lot of California till you came to a blurry area that looked like the coast.
  11. Spent the first few hours after the download playing with all the settings. Even tried out the weather settings but I think the cloud templates and the weather generator are still two different things. I still have more flying to do, like a sunset or sunrise. Will be interesting looking for targets in a landscape with scattered shadows.
  12. I have a full Autodesk suite for my work. That includes 3ds max. I remember seeing videos about creating static objects some years ago. What version of 3DS Max do I need? are there any tutorials that go step by step to create objects and load them into the mission editor. I am interested in modeling buildings and other scenery objects.
  13. I hear there is a way to clear trees and objects in the mission editor but I have not used it yet. As for creating cities and towns. That is already in the mission editor. I create sections of towns with static objects then create templates to repeat and copy sections around a blank part of the map. I am currently attempting to build my first one. Unfortunately you don't have access to all the buildings that are modeled on the map, that would be a big wish list item for me. Maybe even a way to re-texture or skin buildings just like Liveries for aircraft. Now you don't get roads and you don't get runways but those are way more complicated in setting up then dropping static objects on terrain.
  14. Does the Doppler effect change the RCS value. A HARM is probably moving faster then a GBU 12 so the SAM can see a missile better than a bomb. In 1991 we saw on CNN Patriots shooting Scud Missiles out of the sky. Fast forward to 5 or 10 years ago (not sure when) and Israel's Iron Dome can shoot down incoming mortar shells. For armor to evade bombs it would be better if the AI would know that if a jet gets within a mile or two of its position is to start moving or use smoke screens to conceal itself. Use terrain or trees to hide vs just sitting there in the open. Laser weapons should not work if a tank or SA15 launcher moves into a wooded area or in between buildings if in an urban environment. Bet this can be done in the mission editor using triggers routs etc to hide mobile units better.
  15. There it is again, I have seen the interviews where it is mentioned but what exactly is the "World" map. I know new tech is being introduced on the Marianas, Falklands and possibly the update of Syria with Cyprus. But this reference to a world map here and there has me speculating. Is it a low fidelity model of the planet as a whole with satellite imagery, no buildings/ roads? What do people know? I think we are going to see some big updates as well pretty soon.
  16. Seems like a good Idea, however what assets do we have other then carriers and a couple of escorts to do anything on this map? It would be great for long range modern day carrier missions USA vs Russia. However thats it. So much is needed on the naval side for it to be a playable. There are hardly any ships to begin with let alone submarines. Also... Am I missing something? Submarine warfare? How do we do that in DCS? The last time I played Submarine warfare on a computer was HARPOON. Can I send out helicopters to deploy Sona-Buoys? How about controlling other subs? How do I in the mission editor turn on active or passive sonar to detect ships or other subs? Honestly a HARPOON like interface for DCS would be a priority buy for me. Lets not forget WWII assets. The map above was a historic theater in the Second World war, German Subs Vs American Shipping. Unfortunately none are modeled. For this to be viable There may need to be a massive amount of assets created let alone an interface to make it work.
  17. That would be a nice way for SAMS to hide in the weeds till needed.
  18. I always wondered why we cant have all of the buildings in a Map available as static objects to build our own cities. Yes we have few buildings Like the Garage or cafeteria. What about the others. It would be painstaking to do but save it as a template and you can build different neighborhoods industrial etc... Maybe I should open the 3DS Max and start making some.
  19. I will be ambitious. With the development of new tech we will someday soon have the whole world. You will have to stream it , too big to download. You will have Terrain, Weather, Trees, Weeds, Oceans, Baymethry, um... ocean floor. May have roads in some limited fashion it is part of all the GIS data that creates the former. No cities, no airbases those you download or pay for since someone will have to model and place each building bridge and create all the damage models that go with it. Said buildings are placed on the map as you fly over it just as it does now on current maps. Road are refined and you can program those tanks and supply trains to drive from Warsaw to Berlin. So kind of like a hybrid of what we have now and the streaming model of another sim. So yea, you could fly from Nellis on the Nevada map to your favorite base in the Caucus map but don't land in Hethrow for a refuel because London isn't modeled yet or you didn't buy the British Pac. The scenery is there, like Reno is in the Nevada map but only as a satellite texture.
  20. Way down in the lower right of the Home screen when DCS boots up, about where the windows clock would be is the version number.
  21. I noticed this on the SA6 as well. The HARM detonates by proximity. However even though no damage model appeared the SAM system did go down. I don't even think there was a percent damaged either. I will not pretend to know how a HARM really works but not everything needs to be a direct hit to disable a system. In real life will a HARM try to hit the radar dish/ Dome?
  22. Thanks I removed the User profile, wow that reset everything! Well turns out I still had the problem. So since I only have the A10 installed I went through key binds like you suggested cleared the view settings still nothing. Then Cleared the Zoom settings, still having problems. However I did a command search under "A10II Real" and I saw another category in zoom control. DCS was binding my throttle slider to a zoom command. Cleared that and now everything works like it should. I have the Warthog HOTAS. If this problem shows up again with other users this would be the fix.
  23. Zoom Problem.trk You can see whats going on in the Trk file. Mission starts out way zoomed in. I rest hitting Numpad Enter and it goes back. I then zoom out slow and it still fights me and snapped back. This all started with the update at the end of February, Subsequent updates have not fixed the problem. So far I have Uninstalled and reinstalled the software. I Ran the Fix DCS program. I also looked for conflicting Commands that could cause it. I deleted all ability to zoom with the keyboard mouse or Hotas. The problem is still there. I even used a different Keyboard just in-case that was the cause. Still no change. I am running DCS open Beta v 2.5.6.61527 this happens in the A10 II A10C F15 however the F18 Hornet is fine, no problems. Can any one help me figure this out. Is it a known bug that will be addressed in a later patch. For now I believe I will Fly those planes in The stable version of DCS. Thank you
  24. So.. Is this from the Far western edge of the upcoming Falklands Islands Map? Or is someone working on something new here?
  25. People wanting Nukes are probably the same ones who will complain about frame rate drop once the bomb hits and destroys a section of the map. Besides is it not possible that trigger zones, smoke emitters, explosions can be set up to trigger a "simulated" Nuclear event. When Scud A lands in trigger zone then XYZ happens. If your plane is inside the zone then 100% Damage. Sure there is not a huge mushroom cloud and a big flash. Hey speaking of, can we get a model of the 9k720 Iskander, yes it has conventional warheads and is an alternative to the aging Scud missile system.
