F14 Skinners thread (Paintkit in 1st post)
AG-51_Razor replied to David A Sell's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Zaku, any chance of convincing you to post that skin for the Omega KC-135MPRS? -
Yeah Robert, I have a fairly active imagination, and the map is not all that important to me but the carrier is hard to disguise. Somehow, the Corsair rolling out in the groove behind the Stennis or a Forrestall class carrier would sand away whatever wood I started out with!! :megalol:

I doubt very seriously that the developers pay much attention to what we think they should devote their resources to but if they ever do, I'd vote for a priority being put on the Crusader. It will look great sitting on one of the Forestall class CVA's that HB is building. I say this with great reluctance because I am a huge Corsair fan and especially if it were operating off a carrier but I am just not confident that it will be released with a proper WWII era carrier and we'll only have a map of Iwo Jima to putter around on. So, if my vote counted, it would be for the Mig Killer!!

While I am really excited about the improvements to the ATC environment, I wonder if ED or Wags could comment on whether there are plans to expand the number of spawn points on the carrier deck. Ideally, the carrier deck would have numbered spawn locations all over the deck that the mission builder would be able to choose from and have the planes spawn on the deck at those spots just as we have for airfields. Keep up the great work Wags, it just keeps getting better and better!!

Can't wait to be throwing money at you for the Crusader and Corsair!!

Thanks JEFX. I'll study some more.

Is there a tutorial out there for the use of Flags? I think I understand the use of triggers and zones but the Flags are a total mystery to me.:book:

This issue seems so easy to fix, or at least to attempt to fix. If they can establish a spawn point for the 4 catapults and 5 other positions, I do not understand why they cannot, or are reluctant to establish additional spots. I have no doubt that it is a lot more complicated than it appears to be but I still think that they could do it if they put their minds to it. Look at the problems with the Tarawa. The helicopters are all spawning in the tram line that is there for the Harrier to use for takeoff. RAZBAM claims that they can't fix it, that it is an ED issue. For all the warts though, I am still very happy with what we have today. No doubt that there is a lot of room for improvement and I am very confident that ED will address some of these concerns but I just hope it will be sooner than later.

Really well done!

I didn't take that from his statement at all. It sounded to me like he said that you (the pilot) could jump into the back seat, which is a far cry from being able to have a second :breather" along for the ride.

It would be nice to see any WIP shots for the Forestal class

I am less interested in the size of the moon than I am about how it comes and goes. It seems that ED has gotten a pretty good hold on what happens when the sun rises and sets but they have totally missed the boat for the moon. On a date that has a full moon rising at some point in the late afternoon, the sky goes completely dark as soon as the sunset effect is finished and stays that way for quite some time until the full moon decides to appear as though someone just flipped a light switch. Same thing for the sunrise. The moonshine will disappear like someone just turned the lights off and it gets very dark and then we'll see a beautiful sunrise!

I don't think that the OP is looking for crosswind tips, I believe that he is commenting on the effects that a measly 6 kts of crosswind has on a 30+ thousand pound jet on takeoff. I agree with him. I think it's a bit overdone.

Exceptionally well said!!

[UNABLE TO REPRODUCE] HARM TOO no target lock
AG-51_Razor replied to Xxx's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Silly question here but I gotta ask. Are you guys pulling the trigger or pushing the weapons release button?? I believe that anything that "shoots" away from the aircraft, such as the gun or any of the missiles requires that you pull the trigger instead of pushing a button. I could be wrong but I seem to recall that this is true for the HARM at least. -
F-20 Tigershark project
AG-51_Razor replied to nibbylot's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
As I recall, another big advantage that the F-20 had over the F-16 was the navigation suite. I think it was an INS that utilized solid state gyros which allowed it to be initialized within a minute or so. This was a big selling point (or so they thought) for an interceptor standing by for a quick launch. -
In the Hornet, when in the landing configuration (landing gear and flaps down), the AFCS will maintain whatever AOA you set with trim and the throttle will control vertical speed. By this I mean, once you are in the landing configuration the throttle will be used to control your rate of descent, which will keep you on the glide path. Avoid pushing or pulling on the stick because the AFCS will fight you with trim!

I really hope that a map based on Iwo Jima is not in the pipeline. It seems like it is such a small map for a plane that had relatively little to do with the battle that took place there. In my opinion, a map of the Solomons Islands would be a much better fit. As for a period carrier for the Corsair, I would vote for an Essex class or maybe even a Jeep carrier (CVE). Corsairs operated off of both types in both WWII and Korea so there would be a pretty good utilization for either one should someone ever decide to build a Korean map.
-
What would really help would be for RAZBAM or ED force the helicopters to spawn on the flight deck where they are supposed to and not on the centerline of the deck along with the Harriers. This can't be all that difficult! It shouldn't matter whether it's a Huey or a Mi-8. If it's a helicopter, it should spawn on the outboard spots.

Stennis Carrier ME Limited to Only 4 Aircraft
AG-51_Razor replied to Preacher316's topic in Mission Editor Bugs
I believe that the issue is, regardless of how many planes the ME allowed you to place on the carrier, only a maximum of 7 (breathers) will spawn. 4 on the cats and 2 on the #2 elevator, 2 on the #4 elevator and 1 on the #3 elevator. Anyone else trying to come in will be told that their flight has been delayed until the catapult(s) have been vacated and at least one of the "ramp starts have moved off of their spots. My wish is to see ED place numbered parking spots on the flight deck, just like they have on an airfield, to allow the mission builder to decide where each plane will spawn. If they are able to allow placement of an a/c on a catapult, I just can't see why it could be any more difficult to allow us to place the spawn point on a specific parking spot on the flight deck, regardless of where it is. -
For me, there are two no brainer maps that need to be built for DCS. The first is the Korean Peninsula and the second is a map of South East Asia to include Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia. The Korean theater, in particular, is very useful for present day "what ifs" ans well as the Korean conflict and even back as far as WWII. The same could also be said of the SEA map. The aircraft that we presently have for Korea, F-86, Mig-15 and P-51 are almost all we'd need for the Korean Conflict and the F4U Corsair is on the way - albeit the wrong model for that period - I certainly wouldn't let it spoil my enjoyment of recreating that period. A straight deck carrier of just about any class would be acceptable also. There is an Essex class carrier with an angled deck in the pipeline coming from the Community A-4E project and Heatblur is going to be releasing a handful of Forestal class CVs that will go with an SEA map, not to mention the previously mentioned A-4, an A-6 coming from RAZBAM and there is a very good rumor floating around that The F-8 Crusader will be coming sometime from the folks that brought us the Mig-21. Oh yeah, did I mention that we have a Mig-21? and the F-4 Phantom is also coming. And let's not forget about all the helicopters we have to play with!! The F-16 will also be coming out to dominate the skies of Korea as well! To quote a pretty good band of a few years back, "The future's so bright, I've got to wear shades!" :pilotfly:
-
Cubanace, just out of curiosity, how is it that your model can use the radio to communicate with a tanker while the Community A-4E cannot? I recall flying a modded F/A-18 that allowed us to communicate with the radio for everything. I also remember flying an A-7E that also allowed us to use the radio. I am just curious about this, not complaining.

Yes indeed!
