This also works nicely in the Tomcat...and you even have a helpful gentleman sitting in the back that won't hesitate to assist you in getting that unobstructed view!

Nice one  I can't specifically remember the F-14 release (being the latest) - I just remember all of a sudden there it was and I could fly it.
-
Fair enough - was just asking the question. I wouldn't say my point 'falls apart' thou - when you realise that if people want to just fire on and kill unidentified aircraft in MP they can do that in any aircraft, whether it has AIFF or even just IFF or not. Don't fly with these type of people or on public servers with complete strangers if you don't like it. A Mirage pilot not using IFF (which happens A LOT) is just as at fault as a Viper pilot if they make that decision to fire. In any case - it seems common sense to me: don't fly it if you can't without AIFF, and don't fly with people who don't use IFF.
-
This raises an interesting point actually - will there be any ACTUAL accurate warning from ED that the aircraft is about to release in say 7 days for example, so folks that are holding off on the pre-order purchase waiting till payday or w/e reason don't just get slapped in the face with "SURPRISE...aircraft is now release and you can't pre-order it any more!". That could be a little harsh. Personally I have pre-ordered months ago - but I am sure this might effect some people?
-
I would agree to disagree with your complete disagreement. So just to get this straight - you expect everyone to wait further for release to enable an in-depth AIFF simulation, irrespective of if they want to fly the aircraft online requiring IFF or not? Here is a thought - why don't YOU wait longer to fly your newly released, system incomplete Viper online in a competitive environment requiring long-range IFF identification of targets.....and let everyone else who just wants to get up to speed and enjoy flying the aircraft as it is to be released by ED enjoy it in the meantime. How does that sound? It's easy - just leave it in the DCS hangar and pretend it isn't released yet till you get your AIFF system...meanwhile everyone else can enjoy flying it...sounds like a plan

So: Then I am not entirely sure you actually understand the question. A few posts back there is the comment "And yes an actual contact would be nice. It currently feels like I'm taking fuel when im in some magic box area that is very easy to pop out of not like I'm attached to a tanker." So are you physically attached and held in position by the boom or not? Also I have never seen the boom move sideways into the refuel receptacle in DCS before - i.e. flown by the boom operator as happens fuelling F-16's (fly in with boom off to the side, and it moves over to aircraft receptacle). I guess at this point I will just wait and see for myself when the aircraft actually releases.
-
Interesting - I specifically asked the question earlier in this thread regarding a boom operator and got a 'yes and yes' response, with no further explanation.. Upgrading my HOTAS to the Warthog?
VampireNZ replied to hololight's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
On the plus side - the Viper side-stick is exactly the same as the Warthog stick - so your GTG there, no problems with 1:1 button mapping for the stick at least. You actually get an additional CMS push option for the Viper to map as you wish. -
For those interested - This report describes millimeter wave Doppler signature measurements made on a hovering Mi-24 Hind-D helicopter. https://apps.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a351581.pdf

Yea generally most hydraulic control systems like that have a blow-back feature to prevent structural damage in the even of a gross overspeed...but hey I haven't got a F-16 27 Fault Isolation (FI) manual handy right now...
-
I wonder how many - 'will we get a hook, can we land on the carrier' threads the Viper will generate over its lifetime...we are off to a good start, yes it's been raised already https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=243094&highlight=hook

There are quite a few shared acronyms in aviation - you just 'decode' it depending on the context it is used in. i.e you don't really fly in In-Flight Refuelling meteorological conditions, or latch open your Instrument Flight Rules door to AAR. Generally all aviation manuals such as -1 etc. have an Abbreviations, Acronyms and Designations list at the front detailing the specific acronyms used in that manual. Yes - there are far too many TLA's in aviation lol. (Three Letter Abbreviation/Acronym).
-
In your humble opinion of course. Personally I think it looks just fine without shadows - not 'shitty' at all, as I have them off for better performance in VR. Don't have to...but really after that initial noticing a shadow moving across the instrument and the 'ooh piece of candy' moment, you soon forget them and don't even notice when they are gone...IMHO.

Very much looking forward to this module! Would be epic if this was one of the default skins!

I wouldn't touch a 2080Ti with a 10' barge pole, and I have no problems spending money for PC siming that results in a tangible improvement in experience - totally overpriced for the gains over a 1080Ti - also not necessary to enjoy VR. I would happily say VR is worth 3k as it genuinely makes that much of a difference to the experience - good news is it doesn't have to cost that much. 1080Ti and Rift S provides a very good VR experience at the moment while I await the real VR Gen-2 headsets. I can also HIGHLY recommend a Jetseat FSE from Andre also to really boost the whole VR experience.

I am a whole lot happier with 'especially during the initial release, we should expect things to be wrong, point them out when we know, and expect a fix down the line.' - and having confidence they will actually get fixed with frequent updates....compared to incorrect/broken features that never get fixed on a module with no updates...

Southern Africa theater for Gazzele

I am ready for release! - been putting in the hours of ground study and think I have the SMS page layout sorted. Really lucky we are getting colour MFD's in this variant - will be great having that quick-glance indication of fuel qty and cannon ammo remaining thanks to the colour gradient! :book:

Embedded Global Positioning and Inertial Navigation set (EGI) / GPS / INS derived steerpoints are for girly-men. Real men use civilian GPS navigation in their fighters! :joystick: (or w/e the specific nav set is in the Blk 50 - I am sure Kev will correct me..)

Indeed - Have a browse through this thread I started regarding the topic - https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=243104 The pitchfork-shaking and screams of 'but mah realism!' and 'online cheat mode' were next level (apparently doubling the pilots workload is somehow an advantage lol) - I just stayed out of it entirely as some of the arguments were just ridiculous. Nevertheless - you could say some people are rather passionate about the whole concept of how other complete strangers enjoy their own simulations they have paid their own money for.

I may get grumpy with new aircraft fairly fast, but am man enough to admit I was a little harsh. I noticed the flight I was using to test out the Gazelle had quite a high surface wind - so set it to zero and the GE is much improved and performs closer to what I would expect. (I don't like my heli flying to be too easy in still conditions - but prob not the best way to test out a new aircraft!) Definite reaction of the helicopter within the 1 rotor span of the ground, and it will float up and down into and out of GE as expected (as it floats up, eventually gets too high and lift reduces, so drifts back down into cushion and lift improves so descent stops). You can comfortable sit in GE in a steady hover. Also drops out of GE once above approx 5 knots also, so good to see. Several other strange handling characteristics noticed, but that was definitely my main concern! So my apologies
-
Yeah - I have literally have no idea why it happened but it did happen on several seperate occasions. Just been for another fly and tried a few landings and they were fine. Even tried one skid on tarmac, other on grass and still good. :dunno: If it happens again I will def get a track file - just so long as it is not a usual thing then no problems! As you can imagine when it did happed I was like WTF! lol. Also improvements in the GE topic, I updated that also.
