hello, thank you all for sharing your thoughts on this

Yes, you can make a hardlink for the Maps folder, so that it points seamlessly to a folder on the other drive. The default name for the original folder is: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\terrains you can create on D a destination folder, for simplicity I suggest keeping an identical folder hierarchy, only that its on the other drive, like: D:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\terrains The command to create the link is mklink /J terrains "D:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\terrains" You will need to delete the terrains folder on C (after you moved its content to D), as the link will take the place of the folder.

Great review, thanks for sharing with the community

Bump, no one has had this issue before? Here is a draft of the mission I'm editing, where you can see the clouds I'm using: Also, when I place the radar in Low Alt mode, the radar contacts I had at that point vanish, and return when I switch back to just Sidelobe compensation ... my understanding of the manual is that this could happen only with the farthest contact, not all of them. Hopefully another user can tell me what I'm doing wrong, please? Cheers! Eduardo

You already copied the entire game, why don't you simply test it by launching DCS, to see if its performance is good enough for you?

Salu2, Eduardo

Ahh, now I understand your point. Agree, but on my case I actually prefer the bigger size of the window, making for easier to read text ... but ofc everyone can use DCS in whatever way he likes best

Hi all, I have tried a wide variety of Cloud types for my mission's weather, but seems like none of them causes the kind of radar returns that we used to have, for example this is an image from Chuck's Guide: I can't get anything like that on my current mission (I'm trying to check the effect of the Weather Filter button). Has anyone else experienced this? Maybe the new clouds engine of DCS affects the MiG-21'a Radar algorithm? Also, the Filter for Low speed mode does not seem to work: I have an Il-76 at 600 Km/h, an An-30 at 300 and an Helicopter at 100 Km/h, and all of them show up on my radar screen, independently if I have the filter ON or OFF. Does anyone know if it is currently bugged? Thanks for any help you can give me. Eduardo

soft links didn’t work for me, so I use hard links.

the Spitfire already has a kneeboard with maps, surely you mean something else?

Thanks for the interesting details I started on DCS on 2013 and purchased my MiG-21 on Dec/2014, but somehow I missed all of the interesting stories and development details. Thank you everyone for every story and detail that you bring to this thread. Hi, As I said on my first post, I simply want to know more about the genesis of this DCS Module that I enjoy so much, it was never my intention to fly back to FC2, as I'd rather fly the MiG-21 that we have today on DCS.

Hi, Thank you so much for answering my curiosity I understand that Laszlo Becz started developing his MiG21 Mod around 2010 and initially worked alone. On 2012, after the kickstarter campaign he was able to bring Novak Djordjijevic into the project who acted as an SME since I understand he was a pilot with the hungarian air force. The Mod was developed initially for Flamming Cliffs 1, but the release version was actually for Flamming Cliffs 2, and was released around 2013. At that point I assume ED showed interest on developing the MiG-21 into a full fledged module. I guess that Rolandero , Cobra and Rudel came into the project on 2013 and then Leatherneck Simulations was formed, and the MiG-21 module was finished at the end of 2014. I don't know the reason behind it, but seems like Laszlo left the project before the MiG-21 3rd party Module was released. I guess during 2014 Leatherneck started developing the Viggen, which must have placed much strain on the team, as on 2017 Cobra left and formed his own Company: Heatblur, with the then just released Viggen and starting the F-14 development, while the remaining three members of Leatherneck changed the name of the company and started developing propeller modules, first the CE2 and then the F4U. Its amazing the sheer quantity of people that helps with the development of each DCS Module, seems the typical DCS user does not appreciate how much work is behind each such development. Super interesting, thanks a lot for the link. I guess the 15,000 dollars covered just a small amount of the development costs, Laszlo mentions " I need a fund to pay the DRM protection, video and sound producing also need to pay a better texture artist than me to improve the airplane presence and outer and inner textures as well." Thank you both for this rare insight into the early DCS development, I guess modern aircraft Modules require a much greater effort as DCS has increased its internal complexity quite a lot. Best regards, Eduardo

not to nitpick, but the c-101 has a built-in campaign too.

Hello all, On yesterday's DCS patch, the MiG-21 was updated with RSBN & ARC stations for both Sinai and Kola maps, so the User Mod mentioned above is no longer needed to run Mission M03 - ARC & RSBN Navigation. I'm now updating the file at User Files so that it does not include the aforementioned Mod. If you had it installed, the DCS patch should have replaced the Mod files and there are no duplicates so no action on your part is needed. Best regards, Eduardo

Its a way to customize the standard Cockpit View keys of an aircraft, typically binded to the numeric keypad keys. Snapviews behave the same but are binded to LeftWin + Num1 ... LeftWin + Num9 and they are defined by the user, for example here I have defined a snapview for the MiG-21 radar, to use on a radar training mission that I'm editing:

Hi, Thanks a lot for the heads-up as I was not aware of this, I will now check my Navigation training mission to get rid of the User Mod that I was employing Edit: Fortunately, the mission itself did not require any changes, but I removed the old RSBN user Mod that was included within the Training Pack file so now the pack does not break the Integrity Check of Multiplayer. Best regards, Eduardo

Thanks for the interest on this matter, unfortunately that mail no longer exists: Remote server returned an error -> 550 550-5.1.1 The email account that you tried to reach does not exist. I found on YT a recent interview as he is the author of a new book on weaponry: So I wrote to the YT channel owner and hopefully he would be willing to provide a current e-mail address If I find anything more, I will update this thread.

I doubt that small windows updates can trigger this, but major Windows version changes (like going from 20H2 to 21H2 or 22H2) will most likely trigger the copy protection. However these kind of major version change is never automatic, the user must approve first, so you should have time to go out of offline Mode before upgrading Windows. Then you just need to open a support ticket and ED will take care of your particular problem.

I seriously suspect that you are totally inventing the facts that sustain your suspicions ... there is absolutely no reason to sit on a finished module and not release it as soon as possible. DCS is very much an always in-progress platform, so over the 3-4 years that a Module may need to fully develop, it is entirely possible that these small development teams probably have to redo some aspects of the Module not just once but several times, leading to missed development time-tables. As I have not yet paid a single penny for either of them, I choose to not even worry about it ... instead flying something else within DCS.

I have not had any AV issues since long ago, after adding the dcs folder to the AV exclusion list.

most ww2 aircraft of dcs belong to the Normandy invasion period, and by that date the hurricane was no longer serving on that front. Maybe a hawker typhoon would be more appropriate

Hello, While researching for a training mission that I'm currently editing for the MiG-21, I came across the User Manual of a Mod of Flaming Cliffs 2 that added a flyable MiG-21 to the game, these were their developers. So, I then checked the manual of our current MiG-21 and found a very small note that states: "Note: Parts of Cockpit Model, Exterior Model, Cockpit Textures, and some Weapons are made by Laszlo Becz at beczl Studios." Just out of curiosity, does anyone know more details? I'd simply love to know more about the genesis of this DCS Module that I enjoy so much. There is a user @beczl that could be the account of one of the developers, but its been years since he last visited the forum, so I can't reach up to him. best regards, Eduardo

Yes, it has been suggested many times: https://forum.dcs.world/search/?q=stand alone editor&quick=1&updated_after=any&sortby=relevancy&search_and_or=and This is the closest I've seen until now: https://dcs-web-editor.github.io/dcs-web-editor-docs/

Is the F-86F supposed to be able to fire guns on ground?
Rudel_chw replied to LCO489's topic in Bugs and Problems
On the F-86F the Weapon Safety is done with the Gun-Missile Selector Switch (OFF – SIGHT CAMERA&RADAR – GUNS – MISSILE), on the OFF position all weapons are inhibited. Now, if you are on the ground, and then set this switch out of OFF, into the GUNS or MISSILE positions then, yes, you can fire the machine guns on the ground:
