Load up last mission used on start-up of DCS
Buzzles replied to cb1968's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Only one real solution to this: Buy an SSD. -
It's a nice list and all, but doesn't actually tell me anything in regards to progress. Would be nice have the invert of this (the remaining to-dos) so we can see them being ticked off as the weeks go by.
-
About time, but I can only assume this has sadly come about due to the recent Hoggit incident. But, hey, if it frees you and Zeus up to focus on the modules instead, it's all good.
-
The pilot can fire everything iirc. The hat selector is going to be interesting to implement in DCS, as iirc you have to push it in to select the -54s (or -7).
-
No, sadly it wouldn't. The Mig-25 and Mig-31 are great at being fast interceptors carrying big boomsticks...but the trade off was maneuverability. The -25 for example has a maximum g-limit of around 4.5 only. It simply isn't and will not be any good in WVR fights. BVR might be interesting, but I have no idea how good its long range missiles are at hitting small-ish targets. Really, you're looking for a Mig-23 if you want a roughly comparable fighter, or the Mig-29.

From FB: https://www.facebook.com/leatherneck.simulations/photos/a.1603722746517064/2144503835772283/?type=3&theater Seems even other dev's aren't immune from the Tomcat fever :)

Well, if you read the newsletters, your main points are being addressed. Mig-29 is getting PFM and updated cockpit soon (maybe this week). ED have said they're updating the cockpits of the older modules. KA-50 is in progress, and they've just shown off screenshots of the new P-51D cockpit. They've been quitely updating the 3d models of the AI units too. Although they've been doing a lot of missiles recently. Don't disagree I'd like the pace to be quicker, but to say they're not doing anything isn't true.

Just on point 2: Are you aware of the Steam Workshop and the entire CS:GO skinning industry? Same for TF2 stuff. Just saying it's entirely a thing that's being done by other companies. Nothing stopping ED going that route, if they offered the platform for selling. That said, I certainly wouldn't pay for skins.

** DCS: F-14 Development Update - September!! **
Buzzles replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Coming later, they've been saying for the past 12+ months B was going to be first off the cat. -
It would be a great addition as an AI plane imo.

I'm gonna be very skeptical here and this is just as constructive criticism and not trying to shut you down, but you're a brand new user, wanting to make a module, and have admitted you know basically nothing about coding, and want to make a full hi-def module? Sorry, but being realistic, unless your background is in aeronautics, engineering, programming or system design, or you've been involved in making modules and such before/ in other sims, you've got basically no chance. It takes a team with experienced people on it generally 18+ months (normally more) to bring out a mod with the features you've said you want to have. I'd suggest you back off a bit, focus on building and animating a quality 3d model, and then follow the guides and release something at the FC3 level first with an SFM and SSM, as a lot of the lua scripting to do that isn't too hard. That's still a massive job, but at least it's doable as a lot of the tools are available and coding can be fairly minimal. Once you've done that, then consider building on it by adding a sytems model or constructing an EFM.

The main thread is here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=221655 ED in the form of Coyote + Sith are answering questions in that one.

** DCS: F-14 Development Update - September!! **
Buzzles replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
There's a few more now: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/screenshots/1065/ Looks absolutely amazing. -
Eh, it's not like it doesn't happen. Adidas and Puma is probably the best example of sibling rivalry gone sour.

What should be fixed asap to make DCS a whole ?
Buzzles replied to BitMaster's topic in DCS Core Wish List
There's sort of two things for me, but they're part of the same objective of having better dogfights: AI currently having completely different FM's to players: they at least need to be much closer if being the same isn't technically feasible. The new damage model needs to come out and get applied to all the aircraft, player and AI. This thread's a bit pointless though, as ED already know what we generally want from being here and on other social media, and due to the fact we have no influence over when they deliver anything or what order. -
Conversely, I actually think it's a very interesting aircraft. I just don't think it's really that useful as a pilotable one in DCS. I'd rather ED leave the AI one as is, but make the radar operator an actual position that can be taken up by any client in MP. Same for the A-50 for the Redfor.
-
And do what exactly? AWACS planes, just like tankers, have a mission profile which is basically just take off, fly massive circles for hours on end, land. Pretty boring from the pilot seat imo. A radar operator position would be neat for multiplayer to replace the existing CA/F10 slots that some people take up, but they'd probably not be enough usage or demand to warrant the cost of a full module for that.

SilverDragon puts the important posts in his unofficial roadmap thread, so it's already done.

Will this Steam vs stand alone activation ever be fixed?
Buzzles replied to sirrah's topic in Steam Support
They are. One of the potential gains from their new activation system they're slowly rolling out is a unified DRM across both platforms. -
The Huey is the most, well, helicopter-y, of the current batch, so is the best place to start. Mi8 is similar but more like a flying truck, which brings its own interesting challenges. KA-50 has a lot of autopilot aids + the coaxial rotor, so it's very much its own thing. A lot of fun but definitely not a "standard" chopper.
-
This is your problem. Follow the manual: Don't cut the throttle early and don't flare it like a WWII bird. Cross the threshold under power and fly yourself into a nice level 2-3 feet off the runway then chop the throttle. Don't flare to land. It'll just settle down on its own and you just need to apply the bare minimum stick back to keep the nosewheel off the deck. Once it's two wheels on the deck, then pull back to aerobrake. Forward speed = lift. You've already killed the throttle so pulling back is just putting you into a stall. It's counter-intuitive, but if you want to slow the rate of descent when at low power or speed, nose down to pick up forward speed and pull level. Add throttle when needed.
-
It's the Mi-8 for me, but mostly because I'm currently slumming it with a twist stick.
-
Why do you want one? All it does is go fast and take photos, and we can't do or have any real use for the latter in DCS. At least other single mission planes like the F-117 have an actual combat use in DCS, the SR-71 sadly does not.
-
Yes. Delete them all. They're only there for the DCS installer to shove files that have been modified in to when they didn't match the expected file (aka, you've tweaked them yourself). You can clear out the contents of _downloads too if you want some more space.
-
You say that, but unless I'm remembering incorrectly, Yo-Yo's indepth talks with Eric Brunotte revealed he did not use the locking tail wheel in the 109 for takeoff.
