You're the 2nd Steam player in this thread reporting similar issue. Can you check if the Steam launches the MT (I know it says so, but does it really)? What does the note in bottom right corner of the menu screen say? "MT preview 2.9" or version number only? About the new splash screen... I don't even remember how the previous one looked like and I play the game on regular basis. Some of you guys are really way too easily miffed by such (un)important things. Do not worry, though! 15th DCS anniversary year ends soon, so you'll get some whatever "normal" splash screen then.
-
@BIGNEWY Has MT become standard exec with 2.9? I'm asking, because even though I don't see it mentioned in patch notes, when game's launched from "normal" ST desktop shortcut, the menu screen says "MT preview 2.9.xxxx". On the other hand I can see both execs (in Bin and Bin-MT) are still slightly different in size.

Double binding or not, the plane should react correctly to trim inputs if game flight mode is really off and non-FFB joystick is used (as in this case allegedly). @unmar Post a short in-flight replay track so that we can take a closer look at what happens.
-
You probably have "game flight mode" turned on in gameplay options. Warbird trims are animated but non-functional in such case. You need to go full simulation mode to be able to use them.

Automatic manifold pressure regulator question.
Art-J replied to grafspee's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
I used to wonder about it too. I recall there was be a very old post from Yo-Yo where he explained why the regulator was simulated the way it was, but it's borderline "mission impossible" to find it now. An interesting note about necessity of advancing throttle during climb with reduced power can be found on the always-informative enginehistory.org website, but I admit I never investigated the rest of the article super closely. https://www.enginehistory.org/Piston/Rolls-Royce/R-RmerlinABC/R-RmerlinABC.shtml -
Please Improve WW2 Ground Physics and Prop + Prop-to-Tail effects
Art-J replied to FusRoPotato's topic in DCS Core Wish List
P-factor and gyro have been implemented since forever, though. At least in ED warbirds (I don't own I-16 and CE-II so can't comment on these). They differ a lot from plane to plane and one might argue about how strong they "should" be (though posting just "feelings" alone won't get anyone anywhere on these forums), but they're there allright. Just did a refreshing rides in both P- and TF- Mustangs. As far as P-factor is concerned, apart from obvious pull to the left on takeoffs, high AoA slow flight results in left yaw, throttling up makes it even deeper. Gyro precession has always been noticeable in all warbirds especially while raising the tail during takeoff roll quickly (mostly in 109, which requires full right rudder kick to counteract the effect). Haven't noticed any changes today either. Pitch changes in flight - up yawed left, down yawed right. As for the vertical climb with constant power, well, both Mustangs do start rolling left when the speed drops really low, even more so when throttling up. Not much difference compared to 190s apart from slower roll rate at which it happens. All and all, I just can't agree with all of your observations. Are you sure you don't have game flight mode and rudder & takeoff auto-helpers reset to ON after one of the last game updates? -
It was a mod from 2.5.xx era, which did what "message font size" in gfx options does nowadays. After implementation of the latter, the former was no longer needed. Below you'll find 1440p version I used for my monitor back then, there were other vrsions as well. Don't know if it still works, cause as I said, it's pretty much redundant nowadays, but you can try it out. DCS TextEnlarger_2.5.x_1440p.zip

@Freakmeister51 Do you have easy comms enabled in game options? Also, do you use any external tools for voice comms?
-
^ Well, In that case, you're running standard ST. Not at my PC at the moment, but I recall there should be "MT preview" (or something) note next to the version number. Will check later once I'm back. Edit: That's how it looks like (screen below).

Post in the Installation bugs section, you'll more likely find help there rather than here where forum related issues are discussed: https://forum.dcs.world/forum/484-installation-problems/ In the meantime, you can try steps suggested in official FAQ for this "host name" problem: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/authorization/

Nah, it ain't that bad. The newsletter from two weeks ago mentiones unspecified "warbird improvements" coming with 2.9, we've also seen new Spitfire cockpit in Normandy 2 teaser vid 5 months ago so there's that. I also consider recent wheel chocks addition to German planes a small but important Quality-of-Life improvement. I was getting a bit fed up with standing on the brakes of Anton for 15 minutes while waiting for the damn BMW to warm up properly . I wouldn't mind a word or two about Hellcat, though. Its forum section is there for a reason!

Sigh... They're not "holding up" any theater of ops. ED has been slowly chiseling their WWII Marianas and Hellcat without looking at M3 or anyone else so both items ARE coming. They just were, are and will be ED's "side-quest", like everything WWII related and we'll have to wait quite a while for these, with only a screen or two posted every few months. At the same time DCS 3rd party developers don't give an F about PTO anyway, so there's noone to hold up from. I personally don't need any info or hype-inducing-content to be posted, because in DCS everything is done "when it's done" and "subject to change", so dates and WIP updates are generally meaningless, whether from ED or any 3rd party (unless the advertized feature is really about to be implemented literally in the next patch). I kind of understand, however, that other folks prefer more interaction with devs.

What do you mean by "not necessary"? If I recall correctly, If the mission is set to 1944 in the editor, you won't be able to put a unit on a map and assign it to "Germany", because that one is reserved for post-war Germany. That's why a 3rd Reich option was implemented, with its own separate entry for description.lua.

unable to reproduce Propeller disappearing when zoom too close to aircraft
Art-J replied to Fab8ball's topic in Bugs and Problems
Not seing it in latest Open Beta and I believe it was fixed months ago, together with the same problem on Dora-9. What DCS version are you on? -
Our Spit is a hodgepodge of features because it's modelled mostly (albeit not solely) after MH434, which is a retrofit hodgepodge in itself. That was discussed ad nauseam back in '17 when module was released, so even though one can create a new bug report, I wouldn't count on any major changes being made. Cockpit textures and materials are the most outdated aspect at the moment (compared to remaining ED warbirds, which have 2018 cockpits or newer), but we know a new pit is coming (who knows, maybe we'll get it with 2.9?), so let's wait and see how it turns out.

NZG - Nazi Germany = Third Reich, for missions set with historic filter on.

Just for the record, the engine dies quickly only if we can't keep the oil and carb temp within limits (head temps never go above redline anyway, so forget about them), and that will depend on ambient conditions and cooler settings. From my limited airspeed- and torture-testing at sea level, overboost between 70 and 75+ (after a a shallow dive) at 2550 RPM can be kept continuously for as long as there's water in the tank, so about 30 minutes. For example, in ISA conditions, I can safely maintain 69.5" in level flight even with both oil and intercooler only half open. Gives about 25 kph IAS extra bonus compared to 64". Granted, at summer hot ambient conditions and when boosting after a power climb with oil hot already, yes, it's indeed easy to go over the oil and carb temps redline and both coolers will have to be opened accordingly. Sometimes full open will not suffice and throttling down will be needed. By the way, both full open cause about 12-13 kph IAS penalty compared to both half-open (again, at sea level at ISA conditions) To sum it up, I don't know for certain if our -47 should have a regulator or not, but we don't really need to be THAT worried about overboost, 'cause as long as both temps are kept in check, the engine in DCS can take quite a lot of it (unlike also non-regulated P-40E in the "other sim").

And since carb icing and FOD are not simulated in DCS warbirds anyway, I'd recommend not fiddling with carb heat and air filter levers, especially when power loss caused by using one of them (don't remember which ATM) at high altitudes IS simulated. Just keep both forward and fly the plane (unless you want to use them strictly for immersion purposes).

Licensing A-4 simulator for commercial use
Art-J replied to Bparedes's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
Before talking to A-4E devs I'd contact Eagle Dynamics in the first place IF you intend to fly that plane in any vitual environment, which means DCS game in itself. "Simulator aspects" is a bit of a vague description but I'd hazard a guess you do intend to incorporate some flying if VR is involved? -
They'll work OK if installed in main game folder ("bazar" subfolder), but Saved Games location is generally recommended to keep things tidy and organized, with custom skins clearly separated from default ones. @demon702Adding to what Paidtriot wrote above, keep in mind that some skins are configured in their description.lua file to work only with certain selected countries. Maybe that's why you couldn't see them in your mission, just because of selecting "wrong" country for your aircraft. You can get rid of such limitation by editing the aforementioned file (removing country acronyms from the "country" line at the end if I recall correctly).

solved Lost all modules after reinstall of DCS Open Beta
Art-J replied to Sixxpack's topic in Installation Problems
No point in trying to install any module using batch if it's not visible on ED site in orders history of your account. You said you don't use Steam now. Did you use it to buy these modules in the past, though? There have been some very recent changes related to how Steam and non-Steam accounts can / cannot be linked. -
Uh... So is it flyover or takeoff? Can't be both at the same time. Please post a replay track of that Spitfire test you're attempting, so we can take a look. Otherwise it's getting a bit difficult to figure out what you mean.

Bump. Inspired by the other bug thread with AI activating collective clutch behind player's back, I checked "my" problem again to see if it's not a similar thing here, with AI pilot enabling heading hold mode all by himself (that would explain pedals being trimmed by something, autopilot in such case). Maybe I've just missed it. Nope, that's not it. Heading hold mode remains disabled all the time when switching from and back to pilot's seat and yet, the pedals remain stuck trimmed by AI even when I'm back at controls. The only way to re-center them is to reset all trims altogether.
-
The engine shouldn't (and doesn't) cut out in hot-started missions all by itself, even with nothing but mouse and keyboard plugged in. Must be some controller issue on your side, do you have something in your HOTAS bound to "mixture lever cut-off" command by mistake? Trims being animated but inop is a sign of game flight mode being used, applies to all warbirds in DCS. Unlikely to be fixed when devs said numerous times they plan to remove the game flight mode form the sim altogether.

You can always try to contact fl0w and see if anything from his and his buddies abandoned MiG-25RBT project could be reused.
