Sounds like you are deploying the dive brakes? Are you sure you deploy the gear with "G" and not with "B"? Did you break the tailwheel by any chance? Like slamming the tail onto the ground, for example when braking? And the hook will only come down if the tail wheel is down. If the tail wheel isn't deploying, you won't get a hook either. Also, feel free to attach a short track so we can see more details.

Well, the engine start is simple and has only a few steps, yet it is obvious you are missing something. Can you list what you are doing step by step? Have you also checked that you don't have any unwanted keybindings, that would conflict your inputs? Like having mixture set to key buttons and an axis for example?

Did you assign any frequency to the carrier? And have you set the appropriate frequency into one of the preset channels of your radio? Also there should be no difference between training mission and your own mission. Are you 100% certain your tail is on the deck so the hook has a chance to catch a wire? Requesting a landing is not necessary for that.

Your first assumption is correct. You can use a script called "Fox" (google DCS Fox script). It will destroy missiles before they hit you, but you are still vulnerable.

Not all. There are I think 2 that don't have this Problem. One is the M-2000C, the other one I forgot, and the F-16 too if you count it in with the workaround.

Using physical maps is not a reason to use true heading only. Every pilot basically started of his career by plotting some courses on a map and then calculated the magnetic heading for use in air. And the plotted route has to somehow get into the aircraft computers, so there is a software involved somewhere, making a conversion rather simple and automated. Besides, TACAN and vectors are referencing magnetic north, just like runways and wind direction given by ATC. So flying around enroute based on true heading is just making things more complicated. Perhaps you are thinking of russian aviators, which do everything in true heading instead of the magnetic one.

Based on your description, you are not evading it correctly. Chaff alone does not magically defy missiles, you have to do a combination of maneuvering and dropping chaff. But it's difficult to tell what you are doing wrong with a description only. Do you have a video, tacview or a track or anything?

Also make sure arcade flight mode or whatever it is called nowadays is turned off both in your settings and the mission settings.
